      Red Sox Ponder Rotation Options
Edit: See update at bottom. The Red Sox are still trying to figure out what their rotation should be for the ALCS. I figured they'd just go Matsuzaka-Lester-Beckett-Wakefield, but apparently they're still undecided:But there is this to consider: If the Red Sox hold Lester out until Game 3, they could pitch him at Fenway Park, where he's been nothing short of brilliant (11-1, 2.49 ERA) this season.

An old favorite gets back in the rotation
I used to spend a lot of time with Tutorial Ninjas. The site has tons of, well, tutorials and "did you know?" kind of stuff. As is the case for most sites, it got lost in the minutia that is the inter-web. Last night I was thinking about the screenplay for my, yet to be written, ninja movie. It's also untitled, and in the 10 or so years since it's first inception, I only have 2 scenes worked out.

Quality Starts at a Premium for AmazinsWhen the Mets traded for Johan Santana, the New York media and Met die hards instantly proclaimed that this was the move that would put the Mets over the top. He was going to eat up innings to alleviate the strain on the bullpen. That strain was seen as the culprit in the team's historic collapse last September.I agreed with those sentiments. What I disagreed with was the term 'top'.The 'top' of what? Certainly not the top of the National League East.He will only pitch every fifth day. What will happen on the days Santana doesn't pitch? After the trade, Santana instantly became the Mets ace. How could he not? Pedro Martinez is finished. I felt that might be the case, but most Met fans seemed to think he was going to return to his old form. I knew that

Steinbrenner Wants Chamberlain In Yanks' Rotation
There's an old adage: "The fruit often doesn't fall far from the tree"; that can be said with confidence about the Steinbrenners - in this case, I'm talking about George's son, Hank. The New York Yankees are, by and large, having growing pains in their starting rotation - with Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes struggling early on. Meanwhile, Joba Chamberlain is pitching middle-relief - and Steinbrenner (Hank, not George) is none too pleased about it. Hank had told the New York Times this past Sunday regarding Chamberlain, "I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now. There is no question about it, you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don't do that. You ha

You just don’t do that. You have to be an idiot to do that.”Steinbrenner said the Yankees were working on easing Chamberlain into the rotation, but he would not be specific on a timetable. The Yankees’ brain trust had wanted to limit Chamberlain’s innings by having him spend at least part of the season in the bullpen. “The mistake was already made last year switching him to the bullpen out of panic or whatever,” Steinbrenner

Now, with the Mets less than a week from the beginning of their regular season, a similar problem exists. And the club is looking in the same direction for a solution. Neither Orlando Hernandez nor Mike Pelfrey, thought to be the lone candidates for the fifth slot in the Mets' rotation, has distinguished himself; together they have created an opportunity for Sosa. Now that Wang has been made the opening day starter and Joba has been officially put in the pen Joe Girardi can solidify his rotation. The easy thing to do would be to make the rotation the following;1-Wang2-Pettitte3-Mussina4-Hughes5-KennedyThere is one major problem with this rotation - the three guys who are not going to be work horses are back to back to back( and a belly to belly....sorry couldn't resist). This is going to result in a lot of back to back days for the pen and could really take its toll as the season rolls on. So the Yankees would be wise to do the following;1-Wang2-Hughes3-Pettitte4-Mussina5-KennedyThis puts the pitcher with the most limits on his innings(Hughes) between your two horses, hopefully reducing the back to back long nights for your bullpen. Marlins To Use 4-Man Pitching Rotation Early Season
Reported By Stephen RhodesBecause of some quirks in the early regular season, the Florida Marlins are leaning towards utilizing a 4-man rotation for the short-term; because of of-days on April 3 and 8, the team will probably not need a fifth starter until April 13. Which could be a good thing for the Marlins as 2 of their projected 4 starters are nursing minor injuries; the 2 pitchers in question, Scott Olsen and Sergio Mitre, may not be ready for the beginning of the 2008 season as Olsen is recovering from left shoulder tendinitis and Mitre is struggling with tightness in his right forearm muscle. When the Marlins' season opens, they plan to use 12 pitchers - 4 starters and 8 relievers; some bullpen spots appear solid but there's unresolved questions about their rotation. The planet earth does not rotate alone, but along with it the whole atmosphere covering it does at the same velocity. Airplanes, clouds, and the flying insects like butterflies do not leave the atmosphere, and the atmosphere does not leave the planet. Under such circumstances one can never feel the planet moving. Using Crop Rotation In Your Organic Garden - For Healthy Plants & Higher Yields
Crop rotation is the age old practice of rotating plants to different growing areas in your vegetable garden. Plants that belong to the same family are rotated or moved each season. This aids plants with their nutrient needs and helps avoid pest and disease problems.Giving a little extra thought at your planning stage by including a crop rotation system will save you time, money and effort. You will need to spend less on organic fertilizers if you incorporate soil-building cover crops along with nitrogen fixing plants. By using crop rotation you will prevent many pest and disease issues that you would have needed to find solutions for.Say you decide to grow potatoes in the same plot each season. As you lovingly water your potatoes (or it rains) the nutrients are slowly leached from the soil. Your potatoes have specific nutrient requirements. Once they have used all available nutrients you will start to notice problems such as poor yields or pest infestation. Each season, as you grow you

Where will Ratliff fit in Hoosier rotation?
One of the more disappointing pieces of news this offseason was the announcement that A.J. Ratliff would be academically ineligible the first semester. I’ve always liked Ratliff’s talent, but he’s never really put it all together for a full season in a Hoosier uniform. As a sophomore, his signature performance was a 21-point effort during IU’s 79-53 rout of Kentucky in the RCA Dome. Last year, he dropped 20 on No. 2 Wisconsin to lead IU past the Badgers, 71-66. I was optimistic heading into the offseason that this was the year Ratliff would experience a breakthrough. As we sit here today, I’m not so sure that breakthrough can become a reality for Ratliff. If he regains eligibility for the second semester, he’ll be hard pressed to score significant playing time. Armon Bassett, Jamarcus Ellis, Eric Gordon and Jordan Crawford will be fully entrenched in IU’s rotation and Ratliff will have to prove he deserves to take minutes from one of those guys

Second rotation and other remarketing services
Second Rotation has been launched recently as a way for consumers to sell on their electronic items for cash.  This is an interesting development in the drop-shop model which uses the fact that for some categories (mainly electronics) eBay is a liquid market with steady (ish) marketprices.  Based on a number of criteria (condition, accessories etc) the site will give a value which it is willing to pay for an item. Presumably the items are then sold on eBay for a spread over the offer price. I think that this model is perhaps the future for customer focused eBay consignment sellers, as it provides a good customer experiences (cash today) and allows the consignment company to only deal with items they know will sell. The idea is not new with The Drop Spot offering to buy up iPods and gaming systems from their site Beyond the Pod.  Similarly in the UK, services such as Mopay, envirofone and mazuma mobile  offer to pay cash for mobile phones If you found thi

AdSense and Display Banner Ads Rotation in WordPress Blog or Websites
Websites or blogs can use ads rotation to reduce or control the effect of ad blindness. The ad blindness is the common term that describes regular or repeat visitors to the blog or website that start to ignore the very same display advertisements on the website. Ad blindness will inevitable lead to lower CTR (click-through rate) due to no longer interested on the ads or become a behavior to ignore the ads, and subsequently decrease the ads revenue or affiliate income. One effective way to counter ad blindness is by rotating the ads display on the blog or website, distributing the ads impressions between various providers and thus providing variety to users. If you’re using WordPress blog, there is a simple plugin that allow you to do the rotation easily and automatically. The WordPress plug-in is AdRotator, which allows bloggers to easily rotate the ads in a very convinent way. The AdRotator plugin will randomly select from a list of ads code of Google AdSense, Yahoo! Lessons from basketball v2.0: job rotation
Playing basketball in secondary school under the great Conan Doyle taught me a lot of important lessons that can be applied in many areas of life. Through team sports things that you learn about teamwork, training and commitment not only serve you in terms of sports but also in the business world, and more importantly in life in general. One of these lessons I learnt was the concept of job/task rotation. From an early stage in your basketball days, you tend to be set in a certain position “you are a point guard” and trained to be good at performing the tasks expected for that role. For example if you are the point guard, you become great at bringing the ball down the court, calling the plays and getting the right pass to the right player. If you are a post player, your job is to put yourself in the right position to get the ball and control the area around the basket. You eventually become so familiar with your role that you can get stuck in a rut where you view everything through t

Da Vinci Tower brings new concept of rotation technology
A different version of the Da Vinci code is being unravelled in Dubai with the concept launch of a tower in which apartments can rotate according to the desire of the resident. It gets even better — the movement can generate the energy required for the building and even its immediate neighbourhood. The concept is that of Italian architect, Dr David Fisher, who believes it can be translated into bricks and mortar.“Buildings should adjust to nature, so many have very little to do with life today. I wanted to create a building which is redesigned every day,” he said at an event held to mark the announcement of the 300-metre plus Da Vinci Tower in Dubai last week.Powered by wind turbines and solar panels it will have enough surplus to provide energy to around five towers of similar dimensions. Fisher, the founder of Rotating Tower Technology International Ltd, is in talks with potential local partners to finance the first tower, which could include a super-luxury hotel. A decision on

      Sector Rotation: Book Recommendations
Sector Rotation Strategy can help you view the larger picture on money flows in the market and possibilities of where strong sectors will emerge. Regarding sector rotation, probably the best book I read on the issue, which helped me determine my strategy, is Peter Navarro’s “If it’s Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks.” Navarro introduces the concept of MacroPlays and contains the best logical description of Sector Rotation, Market Cycles, Economic Cycles/Reports and Interest Rate cycles. I also recommend Peter Navarro’s “When the Market Moves, Will You Be Ready?” which is just a shortened, easier to understand book like his Raining in Brazil book. As an aside, studying Intermarket Relationships can add to the larger picture. The aim is to identify relationships (and divergences) among the S&P 500, the bond market, currency market, and commodity market. This is more for the longer term investor, but even short term traders can benefit from studying overall market tre

Emi Meyer, Nike+, and Weekend Rotation!
Last Wednesday we saw singer/ songwriter Emi Meyer perform at the Montmarte Lounge in Hollywood. I have never been before and for a club it was huge with tons of swankin' expensive modern furniture, lighting and 3 bars! The show was a multiple act with art show, but I think the event didn't match the venue. Emi has a 4 song Ep trio style with drums, bass and a 'live at the Hotel Cafe' CD with 14 solo tracks. Emi recently won 1st place in the Seattle-Kobe Jazz Vocalist competition and will be performing in a special concert in Kobe, Japan! Check out these two beautiful songs from her EPEmi Meyer - Sunrise and Magnolias Catch Emi at The Tangier in Hollywood on May 1st! Above: William flying with the Fullerton fairy! Chico, Williams make Nationals rotation
Right-hander Joel Hanrahan was optioned to Columbus, a demotion that ties in with Jerome Williams' earning a rotation spot, alongside John Patterson, Shawn Hill and Matt Chico (who allowed five earned runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Braves on Sunday). "I think it's safe to say that Jerome Williams is in the rotation right now," Acta said. The other member probably would be Jason Simontacchi, but he's sidelined by a groin injury. The right-hander, who last pitched in the majors in 2004, was originally slated to start Sunday against Atlanta. "He's not going to start the season with us. He's not going to be able to do it," Acta said. Chico is an emerging prospect, while Williams is a former elite one who has struggled the past two seasons. Williams is still young, but he's more of a low-end NL-only Fantasy option at this point. Chico is an intriguing flier in deeper leagues and a potential sleeper for NL Rookie of the Year honors. Mike Pelfrey wins Mets rotation spot
Mets SP Mike Pelfrey was told Sunday that he'd won a spot in the rotation after his outing against Houston. "It's always good to hear, 'Hey, you made the team,"' said Pelfrey, unable to conceal his smile. "I've still got a lot of work to do and I've got to continue to get better." Pelfrey, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 draft out of Wichita State, allowed four runs and six hits in five innings of an 11-3 loss to the Houston Astros. But he pitched well throughout spring training, and that was enough to win a job in New York's suspect rotation. "He's matured," Randolph said. "You can see where he's learned a lot from last spring. Obviously, he has good stuff, but he's worked hard to execute, for the most part, what we wanted him to do this spring." Pelfrey is now worth drafting in mixed leagues due to the fact he'll be a live young arm pitching in front of a contender. Source: CBS SportsLine.com

Rotation fragile - Wang’s down with cramp
In  Her Blog, Kat O’Brien of Newsday Wang’s suffered a cramp. Rotation fragile — Wang down with cramp Anyone need a reminder how fragile a starting rotation can be? Probably not, but Chien-Ming Wang was shut down for today after he "felt something" in his right hamstring while running this morning. They’re saying a cramp, though it could be a hamstring strain. That’s not good news, when Andy Pettitte has been out for several days due to back spasms. Although Joe Torre had not yet named an Opening Day starter, evidence seemed to be leaning towards Wang. Now we’ll see. Wang is not being sent for any tests, so they must not think it’s too bad. If people had been told at the start of spring training that two starting pitchers would have health problems in the final two weeks of the spring, everyone would have predicted Pavano would be one. Amazingly, he’s healthy though. I hope Wang’s will be alright and be ready for op

      Cardinals: Starting rotation is set
The Cardinals starting rotation has been set with Kip Wells, Anthony Reyes, Adam Wainwright and Braden Looper set to follow ace Chris Carpenter. This means Brad Thompson and Ryan Franklin, who each threw multiple-inning outings this spring, will start the year in the bullpen. Owners will want to keep an eye on Thompson, as he likely will be the primary setup man for closer Jason Isringhausen. Source: MLB.com

Thomson: Shoulder injury hurts chance of making rotation
John Thomson's chances of making Toronto's rotation are in serious jeopardy following a pair of poor outings and a newly discovered right shoulder injury. Bad news for Thomson, who sat out more than two months last season due to pain in his throwing shoulder. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons wasn't even sure Thomson would be able to make another appearance this spring. "I don't know," Gibbons said. "It's going to be awful tough." Victor Zambrano will likely replace him in the spring rotation. Source: MLB.com

Cormier In Lead For Final Spot In Braves Rotation
Halfway through the Grapefruit League schedule, Lance Cormier has built what could be an insurmountable lead over Kyle Davies in the race for the final spot in the Atlanta Braves' rotation. Cormier pitched five scoreless innings of three-hit ball Thursday night in a 3-2 loss against the New York Yankees at Legends Field, lowering his ERA to 1.29 in four starts.Manager Bobby Cox said of Cormier, who ranks among major league leaders in ERA, wins (3-0), strikeouts (13) and innings (14), and has issued one walk: "He's looked great all spring, and he looked good in all the starts he had [in 2006]."Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

In his previous two outings, Jerome Williams had a tough time throwing strikes. But Saturday was a different story against the Mets. Williams pitched four shutout innings as the Nationals routed the Mets, 13-1, at Tradition Field. He gave up two hits, struck out two batters and walked two others. The outing assures that Williams is still in the mix for a spot in the rotation. Right-handers John Patterson and Shawn Hill are already set, and right-hander Jason Simontacchi and left-hander Matt Chico continue to show that they belong in the rotation. Source: MLB.com

Crop rotation for successfully growing vegetables
Crop rotation is a practice that's talked about ad nauseum in the gardening world but has the idea passed it's use by date? It's a theory that's been utilised since the Roman Empire gaining momentum via agrarian farmers in the Middle Ages. The idea suggests that growing the same plants in the exact spot or bed they've previously been grown in will eventually deplete the soil of its fertility and increase the risk of soil-borne diseases and pests. For the past few decades we've tried to go against conventional thinking and have resourced our gardens with a plethora of pesticides, herbacides and chemical fertilisers. These inorganic products have allowed us to grow our annual crop of tomatoes, melons and corn in the same vegie patch without ever having to rotate their positions. And what have we achieved? Pandora's box filled with problems. It appears that our forefathers might have been right on the money with their idea of crop rotation. So, how does crop rotation work? An

Sector Rotation Essentials, Value In Portfolio Insurance (VIX) & The UK Market
By Yaser Anwar, CSC of Equity Investment IdeasThis week I'd like to address the possible sector rotations among industries, finding value in portfolio insurance and a REIT that has been knocked down, and for our global take; looking at the UK market.Sector RotationsAs you know- My approach is a bottom-up view with a top-down macro perspective. It would be prudent to remain in large-cap stocks, as they have been outperforming. I believe the Materials, Capital Goods, and Transportation groups should be avoided in this stage of the business cycle, possibly even shorted. The market is preparing itself for an economic slowdown. This is evident by the laggards being cyclical stocks, partly from the slowdown in GDP & partly from the housing sector. The group that benefits from weakness in cyclical stocks is consumer staples.Even with the slowdown, I'm looking for earnings increase momentum (GOOG, AAPL), valuation factors (RYN), investor sentiment, and fundamentals, to develop a view that can
