I. The Setup
Let’s get this out of the way right now: I have no idea where the Roswell Rock came from. This isn’t going to be the usual attempt at debunking but instead an examination of what’s so often wrong with reporting on topics about aliens, UFOs, Bigfoot, lake monsters, homeopathy, and every other corner of Castle Nonsense in which most of the world sadly makes i

The Roswell Incident involved the recovery of materials near Roswell, New Mexico, USA, on July 7, 1947, which has since become the subject of intense speculation, rumor and questioning. There are widely divergent views on what actually happened and passionate debate about what evidence can be believed. The United States military maintains that was recovered was a top-secret research balloon that had crashed. Many UFO proponents believe the wreckage was of a crashed alien craft and that the military covered up the craft's recovery. The incident has turned into a widely-recognized and referred to pop culture phenomenon, and for some, Roswell is synonymous with UFOs. It likely ranks as the most famous alleged UFO incident. The news for the real estate market in Roswell, at least for sellers, is quite bright and considerably better than some of the surrounding areas. The leading indicator for Roswell real estate is the absorption rate, which currently stands at about 8 months. This is lower than Alpharetta, Sandy Springs and Milton. It’s half of the absorption rate in John’s Creek.
* The absorption rate is a statistic that measures the estimated time it would take to sell all active listings at the current rate homes are selling.

As it happens, Dennis Kucinich is not the biggest nut among the Democratic presidential candidates in the U.S. That prize goes to New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, as evidenced by his comments after the presidential debate at Drexel University last Tuesday, during which Kucinich had been asked about his UFO sighting by moderator Tim Russert:
“The godmother of your daughter, Shirley MacLaine, writes in her new book that you’ve sighted a UFO over her home in Washington state, that you found the encounter extremely moving, that it was a triangular craft silent and hovering, that you felt a connection to your heart and heard direction in your mind. Now, did you see a UFO?”
Kucinich replied: “I did.”
Kucinich did not elaborate much. He joked about moving his campaign headquarters to Roswell, N.M., the site of the country’s most famous alleged UFO crash.
Afterwards, it was Bill Richardson's turn:
When MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked Richardson af
Living among the citizens of the infamous New Mexico city of Roswell are four who are not there by choice. They are there to follow a destiny given to them by the members of their dying race, a race that they are someday destined to save. This is the background behind the WB series "Roswell". Max Evans, Isabel Evans, Michael Guerin and Tess Harding are teenage humans with extraordinary gifts - gifts that are "not-of-this-earth". They are human/alien hybrids, sent here as replacements for the royalty of an alien race. Their counterparts have already perished in a war of attrition, thus one day, the "royal four" will return to their home planet and save their race. Before a fateful day in 1999, the teens hid their gifts. The event that forever changed their lives was when Max healed Liz Parker (a classmate) after she was fatally shot in the stomach in a dispute between two customers at the restaurant where she waitresses. A close relationship then developed between Max and Liz. It was la
In April 1897, fifty years before the alleged UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico, the crash of a mysterious airship rocked the small town of Aurora, Texas. The Aurora crash allegedly took place five years before the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk, so whatever was in the air was not man-made. But was this a true story or a tall tale of the Old West? The legend includes the wreckage from the ship, a funeral for a dead "alien" pilot, and thousands of witnesses from across the country.Eyewitness accounts of the crash, mysterious metal found at the site, and the hunt for the only known alien graveyard are all combined into a story that has even the most adamant debunkers baffled. Is this the case that finally proves that UFOs are real?
Designed by Yves Malka and Pierre de Poucques for LEXON, the Roswell calculator is made from a single piece of aluminum, including the base and keys, which are cut by a high-tech CNC laser process. The calculator features a transparent large screen with two lines capable of displaying ten digits in each.In addition to the standard calculator functions, the Roswell can act as a currency converter too. For example, it could tell you that its £32.50 price tag equates to around $65, 7,500 Yen, or 250,000 Zambian Kwacha. Its also function for calculating percentages, memory, and other computations.More related:Automatic Sushi RollerPlay Video With New Apple iPod NanoRosendahl Outdoor ThermometerClock For Math GeeksUNI Expandable Computer ConceptLuxeed Colorful USB KeyboardConvenient Roller PrinterCrystal Quartz Tele PhonePretec i-Disk Vogue USB Memory StickGeekPark Web CamDisney iRiver MplayerHeartbeat Indicator Mouse
There's still some money to squeeze out of the story that refuses to die, and as long as the gullible tinfoil hat crowd continues to buy garbage like this, there will always be someone to peddle it:
Tom Carey has dedicated the last 16 years of his life to uncovering what exactly happened on July 4, 1947, outside Roswell, N.M.
That's very sad.
Now, along with coauthor Don Schmitt, the Huntingdon Valley resident has published Witness to Roswell: Unmasking the 60-Year Cover-Up, documenting his findings concerning the alleged extraterrestrial event.
A brief synopsis: During a lightning storm, something crashed outside of Corona, N.M., about 75 miles northwest of Roswell. The next day, a sheep rancher found the strange debris and traveled to Roswell to alert authorities and the media.
It was a balloon, probably the remains of a Project Mogul balloon train.
Also found at the site: several "alien" bodies, described by one eyewitness as "not from this earth."
These were crash-test dumm
The United States has Roswell, and Scotland has Bonnybridge - one of the corners of the so-called Falkirk Triangle - where (some) people claim to have seen "triangles, tubes, spheres, cigar-shaped objects, lights and colours" in the sky. And hovering discs, of course. Which is why local councillor Billy Buchanan wants to twin the two towns in a partnership. Here's Alice Wyllie, reporting from the world's no. 1 hotspot for UFO sightings:
After the first reported sighting in 1992, when a businessman saw a sparkling, star-shaped object hovering above the road, Buchanan called a public meeting to discuss strange goings-on in the night sky. Since then, he has become an enthusiastic and well-known spokesperson for the issue, with some residents suggesting that he is exaggerating the incidents to gain publicity for the town. For nearly ten years Buchanan has tried to twin Bonnybridge with Roswell, making contact with Roswell's mayor, although Buchanan is, as yet, no further forward with t

Everyone knows the Roswell story, right? People say they saw a flying saucer. The Air Force says it was merely the remnants of a weather balloon. Some claim that the government is covering up the fact that it had the actual corpses of aliens in a hangar. What do you think?... The truth is out there_ From: Link

Case #003 – “Did a UFO really crash at Roswell?”
I. The Setup
In the middle of the night or in the early evening or afternoon of the days or weeks of mid to late June, 1947, something crashed in one of two or three locations on the Foster ranch outside of Roswell, New Mexico, where farmer William “Mac” Brazel worked as foreman. A number of extraterrestrial bodies may have been found amongst the wreckage. Or nothing at all.
Given such a vivid story, it’s no wonder a legend was born. One might be tempted to label the Roswell incident as an object of public fascination for sixty years now. I know I would, but that may just be my OCD yearning for round numbers acting up. However, in the thirty-one years between 1947 and 1978, nobody really gave Roswell a first thought, much less a second. After an initial press release touting the recovery of a flying saucer, the official military line on the matter was that a weather balloon had crashed on the Foster ranch, resulting in

Here's more from the "Culture of Contact" festival in New York:
New evidence has been uncovered that “proves” alien crafts crashed in the Nevada desert in July 1947, and were recovered by the military, a group of “alien abductees” and UFO investigators claimed yesterday.
The group made their case at the launch of “Culture of Contact,” a three-day festival of alien-themed films, talks and music at the Pioneer Theater on East 3rd Street.
“Skeptics, debunkers, get out of the pool. It’s over,” said William Birnes, publisher of UFO magazine. “This is it. Over.”
Birnes read from a newly released affidavit made in 2002 by Lt. Walter Haut, who was at the Walker Field base where the wreckage was allegedly taken 60 years ago. The memo describes a second crash site, 40 miles north of Roswell, where alien bodies and technology were captured by officials.
“Samples of the wreckage were passed around the table,” Birnes sai

The northern suburbs of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell and Alpharetta offer home buyers a rich diversity of neighborhoods and a community environment that combine to provide an excellent location for families, executives and retirees alike. Excellent public schools, high end shopping and dining, numerous Fortune 500 employers and a convenient location to major highways continue to make Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs a great place to live.
The recently incorporated city of Sandy Springs is north and adjacent to Atlanta. After years of wrangling over the allocation of tax dollars by Fulton County, the city of Sandy Springs now has more control over the use of tax revenue which has dramatically increased the desirability. Due in part to the incorporation, Sandy Springs Real Estate continues to fare well compared with the national Real Estate market.

Ok! Back to the mundane,  at least for a minute:The 2006 Roswell UFO Festival begins tomorrow (Friday, June 30th - Monday, July 3rd).I have one thing to say: DANG IT!!  DANG IT!!  DANG IT!!(Ok... three things!)Yep! Our tourist season has officially started. This is the time of year - during the UFO festival - most of the locals, who are not in the tourist trade, run and hide. And, yes, I'll be hidin' right along with 'em!  I've lived in Roswell over twelve years, and I barely remember what my original hometown (Dayton, Ohio) was like.  I've even acquired a slight New Mexico/Texas twang in my speech.  SO,  Ahm a 'local' now, ahhh reckon!  Oh, don't get me wrong.  If folk want to visit our town; walk the streets dressed like aliens; swill green alien beer; dance at free street concerts; visit on-going panel discussions about the UFO phenomenon; then "by cranky!' go for it!BUT! If you're really brave, come to Roswell and hang out
