According to George King, because of the overworked bullpen the Yankees may make a roster move: Because Jonathan Albaladejo threw three innings and 48 pitches last night, it's likely the Yankees will recall a reliever from Triple-A for tonight's game. Among the candidates are Jose Veras, Darrell Rasner and Scott Patterson. My suggestion would be to bring up the guy who should have been here all along, and that's Scott Patterson. Patterson's numbers in Scranton-Wilkes Barre haven't been great (5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO, 3.18 ERA), but the two runs he's given up, and two of the three walks, all came in one game against Louisville last week.
Mike Pelfrey won the 5th starter spot; Brady Clark, Raul Casanova, Angel Pagan and Joe Smith are in; Fernando Tatis and Brian Flores were sent to New Orleans, Moises Alou, El Duque and Ramon Castro will start the season on the DL.
...The New York Mets today announced the following roster moves on Sunday to ready their roster for Opening Day. The Mets selected the contracts of catcher Raul Casanova and outfielder Brady Clark and added them to the 25-man roster. Clark will change his uniform to No. 44. He had worn No. 93 this spring. Catcher Ramon Castro was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, due to a right hamstring injury. Right-handed pitcher Duaner Sanchez was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, while he continues recovering from right shoulder surgery. Sanchez underwent shoulder surgery on April 10, 2007 at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery. Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek inserted a screw in the coracoid, a bone in front of Sanchez's right should
The Yankees have their opening day roster:Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras, Darrell Rasner and Scott Patterson, along with Kei Igawa and Nick Green all go to Sranton.Andy Pettitte (back), Sean Henn (shoulder tendinitis) and Jeff Karstens (groin) are put on the 15-day disabled list. The bullpen spots go to Brian Bruney, Ross Ohlendorf, Billy Traber and Jonathan Albaladejo.Pettitte is scheduled to make a start in a minor league contest in Tampa Sunday and will be re-evaluated by team doctors after his outing.Patterson was not pleased at not making the cut. After leaving Girardi's office he kicked a chair on the way to his locker. La Troy Hawkins and Joba Chamberlain talked with Patterson, who smiled at something they said.Patterson only allowed one hit and no runs in 7 2/3 innings this spring. "I

The Mets announced three roster moves on Friday as the team wrapped up Grapefruit League action against the Orioles, beginning with second baseman Ruben Gotay, who was claimed by the Braves. New York also optioned second baseman Anderson Hernandez to Triple-A New Orleans and returned right-hander Steven Register, a Rule 5 Draft pick, back to the Rockies....Of course if Ruben Gotay had to be claimed, it had to be by someone within the division. To make matters worse, it had to be the Braves. I think that Gotay's shortcomings outweigh his great bat from the left side. His defense, mental errors and inability to be consistent against lefties is ultimately what sealed his demise. I wish Ruben the best of luck with the Braves, just not when they're playing the Mets.
...This comes from Adam Rubin at the Daily News: I’m going to hedge in a few places because injuries have left things slightly unresolved, but here’s what I think is a pretty good stab at what the Mets’ Opening Day roster will look like. Surfing the Mets now has it on very good authority that it’ll be a five-man rotation, whether Orlando Hernandez is ready or not, since Pedro Martinez will perform optimally with extra rest in the team’s opinion. That leaves room for five bench players, plus a substitute for Moises Alou, who will land on the DL until May following hernia surgery. Kat O'Brien is reporting that Morgan Ensberg has been added to the Yankees 40-man roster and will make $1.75 million this season. Ensberg has no minor league option available, so she feels that this means Ensberg is a "slam dunk to make the team," I agree. So it looks like the bench will be Betemit, Molina, Duncan and Ensberg. (I still think Gardner should make the team)And here's good news for any Paul O'Neill fans:Ensberg plans to ask to change from No. 21 because he doesn't think he should take Paul O'Neill's number. He said he didn't ask before because he thought it would be presumptuous to ask for a different number if he wasn't even on the roster. He plans to make Wilson Betemit an offer for No. 14, which was his number in Houston.“I can’t wear Paul O’Neill’s number,” Ensb
The I’s have it.That is injuries and ineffectiveness, the two I’s that have been plaguing the Mets during Spring Training. The first injured man that needs a replacement on the roster is Moises Alou. Angel Pagan has been hot at the plate, so a guy who was signed to play and wait in AAA will now be a part of the major league roster.Ruben Gotay seemingly had a job as a backup middle infielder and pinch hitter, but he came up lame early on this spring. Jose Valentin was poised to take that job after making an early comeback from offseason surgery, but a pinched nerve has him “behind the eight ball” according to Manager Willie Randolph (as reported on MLB.com).Who will take that spot? Some may look to young Argenis Reyes who is hitting .448 this spring, but has never played above AA and

Peter Abraham reports that left-handed reliever Billy Traber has been added to the Yankees 40-man roster. To make room the Yankees placed pitcher Andrew Brackman, who is recovering from TJ surgery, on the 60-day DL.Traber has been the most impressive lefty this spring and unless the Yankees trade for Damaso Marte he will probably make the 25-man roster to start the year. This spring Traber has pitched in 5 games and is 1-0, with a save, he hasn't given up a run (although he did allow three inherited runners to score the other day), and has only allowed 3 hits while walking none and striking out 5.
The Yankees will play the first three games of the season with a 23-man roster, reports Peter Abraham. “It is what it is and you move on,” Girardi said. “We’ll still start the season with who we were going to start the season with. There’s still competition, there’s still two weeks of spring training. … Obviously we’re hurt missing two guys for three games. You got to deal with that.”Girardi said he had no idea why Cabrera was suspended. “I don’t know (what he did),” he said.Is it just me, or would you all love to see the video of Cabrera punching Longoria?

As suspected, the Cubs contingent left the Winter Meetings this week with more questions deferred than answered. What's the deal with Fukudome? Are we REALLY going to pay that much for an aging Japanese outfielder who has never faced a major league pitch? Is Ronny Cedeno gone yet? Are we going to get another starting pitcher? Is Ronny Cedeno gone yet?
You, darling readers, have questions. And I have answers. Well, not necessarily answers, but at least speculation and conjecture. Those are KINDS of answers. And I'm not providing links because I'm too lazy. Away we go. First up, as noted by Hobo in carl's headline diary, the Cubs, Pads, and White Sox (hahahahahahahahah!) appear to be the main contenders for Fukudome. Bear in mind, however, that Fukudome hasn't even declared that he's going to play in MLB next season. The Royals, who had earlier been listed with the Cubs as the two teams Fukudome was chos

Today the New York Yankees removed veteran pitcher Roger Clemens from their playoff roster and replaced him with left-handed reliever Ron Villone. So now Clemens is ineligible for the AL championship series if the Yankees come back and beat the Cleveland Indians. From Yahoo! News:Clemens re-injured a hamstring Sunday and left in the third inning of New York's 8-4 win over the Cleveland Indians in Game 3. He met with manager Joe Torre and general manager Brian Cashman after the game."Normally, he'd fight," Cashman said. "But he didn't fight this one. He knows his body and he knows that he did enough damage in there that he wouldn't be ready."

Looking over the final roster, here are some random thoughts:Best units:1. Linebackers--Their youth could hurt at first, but they are fast with huge potential. Could develop into the one of the best LB corps in the league down the road.2. Tight ends--KWII appears healthy, Heiden is always dependable, Dinkins provides depth.Shakiest units:1. Defensive line--The starting nose tackle is a year older and the guy being groomed as his replacement is unproven and starting at left end due to injury. Free agency and the draft changed a lot of faces, but can any of them play? Run defense has to be a huge concern.2. Defensive backs--The talent is there if it is healthy, but that has been a big "if" the past two seasons. The Browns kept 10 DBs, 7 of them CBs for just this reason.3. Running backs--Jamal Lewis has looked good, but can he carry the load all season, and if he gets hurt, can either of the remaining guys be a starter week in and week out?4. Wide receivers--Braylon Edwards is t

The New York Jets announced that they have signed cornerback Manny Collins out of Rutgers and re-signed offensive lineman Nick Smith. The Jets also released offensive tackle Ed Blanton as well as punter Jeremy Kapinos.
Smith signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent and then was released by the team on May 16th and has been brought back with the team.
Collins was signed by the Jets for training camp depth with Andre Dyson out with an injury and with first-round pick Darrelle Revis still unsigned. Collins went to college locally out of Rutgers University, played in three games last season including the season opener where he intercepted North Carolina QB Joe Dailey twice.
The New York Jets have announced that they have placed WR Tim Dwight and LB Matt Chatham on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
The Jets also waived guard Dominic Moran and safety Leonard Peters and have signed center Joseph Villani.
Here is Villani’s biography from CSTV.com.

In recent months it has become easy to feel sorry for the WWE during what has to be the worst injury crisis in there history. Main event draws Shawn Michaels, Triple H, The Undertaker, Edge and Rey Mysterio have all fallen foul of lengthy injuries and RVD, Chris Jericho, The Big Show and Kurt Angle all departed in one way or another. This plus the loss of Chris Benoit and the negative media attention over the incident has been a huge strain on the WWE.So why hasn't TNA got the WWE in a submission hold they are struggling to escape? All the focus appears to have been on the WWE and what they are going to do now but for me this is the perfect opportunity for TNA to step up and make it's mark with the wrestling masses, so why hasn't it.TNA management may appear happy with the current fortunes of the company but behind the scenes they must be worried that as the number two promotion in America they have failed to make any real impact on the WWE during their little crisis.TNA has had no m

Major League Baseball announced the rosters Sunday for the National League, and American League teams for the upcoming All-Star game held Tuesday July 10, at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The starters of course are picked by MLB fans and the reserves are picked by their peers, and the respective squad managers. Managing the N.L. last year's World Series Champion Tony LaRussa, of the Cardinals. The man in the opposing dugout will be last year's A.L. Champs, Detroit Tigers skipper Jim Leyland. The game now carries more significance than a decade ago, because which ever League wins the game will have home field advantage in the World Series. The American League has won the All-Star game since that edict went into place and subsequently, have had home field in all those Fall Classics. The Sun-Sentinel is reporting that veteran receiver Marty Booker is on the trading block, showing that Miami still might not be done overhauling their roster. Like I said before, this team was going nowhere the past couple of seasons and it was time to start over and that is exactly what coach Cameron and co. are doing. If Booker indeed is traded, I hope that they can get something like a 5th round pick for him and then use that to get the Trent Green trade done. There is still no indication that Daunte Culpepper will get back anywhere close to his old self, and some experts are thinking that Miami will now look to the draft for their possible "franchise quarterback".And staying on the topic of franchise quarterbacks, Armando Salguero had an interesting post on his blog yesterday. I don't always agree with his stuff, but this one got me thinking.Salguero writes that ESPN, after getting word from various sources, is thinking that the Raiders will draft Calvin Johnson. They claim that th
Mankato has signed IF Jason Christian and OF Alan Oaks from the University of Michigan. Alan was selected in the 50th round by the Detroit Tigers in the 2006 Major League first year player draft. Jason is hitting .361 with 2 HR and 8 steals this spring. Jason also earned Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors for play in Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego (Mar. 9-11).The Moondogs have also added RHP Garett Claypool from UCLA. Garett is 1-0, 3.93 with 2 saves in 14 appearances this spring. He has only walked 10 while striking out 24 so far this season as a freshman. RHP Jordan Tiegs of Sauk Valley Community College will be joining them in Mankato this summer. Jordan was drafted in the 46th round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2006 draft. Jordan is 3-1, 2.01 with 1 save while walking only 5 and striking out 40 in 31.1 innings this spring. Tiegs has signed a letter of intent to transfer to the College of Charleston next season.

The 2006 Boston Red Sox look to have set their 25-man roster as pitchers Kyle Snyder and Javy Lopez have won the last two roster spots. Pitchers Craig Hansen, Manny Delcarmen, and Bryan Corey will start the 2006 season in Triple-A with the Pawtucket Red Sox. The Red Sox feel they may have rushed Hansen last year so this year they want him to develop in Triple-A. With Delcarmen they felt he needed to go to Triple-A so he can get some playing time as the Red Sox look to have a full bullpen. The position bench/backup players look to be: Wily Mo Pena, Doug Mirabelli, Alex Cora, and Eric Hinske.
That's really the question, you guys. Let's face facts: much like Hendry was fascinated with collecting sub-par second basemen last season, he seems to have an unnatural desire to hoard as many mediocre outfielders as possible this year.
Soriano, Jacque, Murton, Floyd, Ward, Pagan, Pie, Coats. . . there are just too many. In the mind of all but a few, human batter's box Jacque Jones is the odd man out.
And look, *I* don't want Jacque to be traded. He seems like a nice guy, he can actually hit when he. . . uh. . . hits, and he looks really great in that shirt up there. And Bruce Miles doesn't want him to go, either:
A report in New York Newsday on Sunday quoted one American League official as saying the Cubs are "continuing to try to foist Jacque Jones off on someone."
Those in the know say a trade of Jones isn't out of the realm of possibility. At this point, it's hard to say how trading Jones either makes sense or makes the Cubs better.
Even though Jones still has issue

Develop a farm team
Training a farm team is definately one way to build your teams roster. This is the formula that many teams use to keep their roster as strong as possible. It keeps your current players on their toes and the younger players hungry to earn a starting spot. This can be an ideal situation but it’s not for everyone.
We started off throwing a rookie team together with players from our local field and shortly after, we picked it a part and took the two senior players to play on our 7-man squad. The farm team had to rebuild and really started to come into its own. They practiced hard, started gelling as a team and really gave us a run for our money at practice. People really started to take notice at this new squad and we felt it would be best to leave it alone and not take anymore players from our farm team. Unfortunately, our organization was not ready to field two squads properly and our farm team was not given the guidance and support they were looking for. After
Picking the right players
Stay away from the superstar player with the huge ego. This is one thing that I know that can destroy a team. This is something that we haven’t really had to deal with. We look for a certain type of player that will mesh more with what we have, instead of making waves. That is actually more important to our team than the actual skill of the player. I’ve witnessed good players from all over being thrown together to create this super squad to only have it back fire. 7 players with the “What’s in it for me?” attitude really gets you nowhere. These types of players really don’t have any team loyalty and will be gone when they get their next “Bigger and Better” deal. It’s really only a short term solution to your roster and will eventually be your down fall.
I’ve been lucky enough to be still playing with 5 of our original core team members on a 7-man squad. 3 of the 5 (including myself) starting playing
Since the ship has sailed on the 2006 season, it's time to take an early look at the 2007 Steelers roster. I personally blame all of the problems on filming that music video with the Povertyneck Hillbillies. That supercedes all Cowher distractions, motorcycle crashes, appendectomies, torn ACLs, concussions, or nagging hamstring injuries as the downfall of the 2006 campaign. But enough about the Curse of the Hillbillies. On to your 2007 Steelers roster:QB: Large Ben should be around for a while, and I am guessing Chaz Batch will be there to carry the clipboard and occasionally step in when Bart Scott tries to decapitate old #7 in future Ravens games. Brian St. Pierre will continue to be cut and re-signed well into the next decade. Long story short, don't plan on any new QBs other than the usual late-rounder and/or training camp sacrificial lamb that fans eventually fall in love with (hellooo, Mike Quinn and Pete Gonzalez).RB: Willie Parker is on pace for a 1,300-yard, 13 TD season, ye
