      I have a flat concrete roof on top of my building in eastern India andI have waterproofed an area 15ft by 50ft for installing a roof topgarden. I have put a mixture of 75% sawdust and 25% sand (as indicatedin the book 'More food from your garden') which is 8" deep and I havecovered the area with a green, porus gardening cloth about 6ft high tomake it look like a porus greenhouse to filter the hot

      Hannibal Rooftop Rack and Tent
      From the Sahara to the Adirondacks there’s nothing quite like going on a camping excursion in a Land Rover (substitute Toyota’s Land Cruiser, GM’s Hummer or any Jeep depending on preference). Why mess with a ground tent when you can loft yourself to the roof of your truck? Avoid wet ground, critters, and bears (we [...]

A couple of things to remember about roof top RV air conditioners- all air conditioners work by removing heat [...]

      Stars from the Rooftop of a Mini Van; The Canyons are Calling; A Motel 6 in Carbondale
      I managed to jumble over 8000 words for the big, fat meaningful paper. I was told in a brief e-mail that I "had a lot of work to do" but that "the story's heart is in the right place." I think that's a good thing. But, ya' know, I can't help thinking that there has to come a time when I stop relying on the feedback of college professors . . . Life experiences only goes so far when you live close to a campus, when you have so many good benefits, the freedom of a sabatical, the stressors of impressing paying parents over the world, the stressors of impressing your fellow colleagues (who come to make up the world, for example: "I'll give you this award that I made up if you'll make up one for me!"). I'm not sure where it is that I'm at right now - it's not enlightenment; it's not annoyed;

      Rooftop Gardens Are Oasis In The Sky
      Rooftop gardens are surprising, impressive and fun. Maybe it's because they are so counter-intuitive that people view them with admiration and wonder. They are a step away from reality. An organic, natural phenomenon in a completely unnatural place. Rooftop gardens make a refreshing change from the usual mundane concrete roofs of buildings. They can be the crowning glory, the highlight of a building. One of the world's most famous examples is Kensington Roof Gardens in central London. Created in the 1930s, they cover 1.5 acres and include three separate styles of garden - a Spanish/Moorish garden, a tudor inspired garden and an English woodland. And the great thing is they have largely remained as originally planted but have matured, giving the gardens a natural, bedded in feel. The Spanis

      The Rooftop Singers - Walk Right In (1963)
      The Rooftop Singers were the most successful of the folk revival's one-hit wonders -- their single major chart entry, "Walk Right In," was a number one record and also the biggest-selling single in the history of their label, Vanguard Records. The group was a trio consisting of Erik Darling, Bill Svanoe, and Lynne Taylor, formed in late 1962. Darling (b. 1933) had been Pete Seeger's successor in the Weavers from 1958 through 1962, and had previously worked as a member of a jazz-folk influenced trio, the Tarriers, who had a modest hit with "Banana Boat Song." He'd also appeared on dozens of recordings (mostly on Vanguard, to which the Weavers were signed) by other artists during the late 1950s and early 1960s as a guitar accompanist. It was sometime after exiting the Weavers in June of 1962 that Darling chanced to hear "Walk Right In," a ragtime-style number originally recorded by Gus Cannon and Cannon's Jug Stompers in 1929. Darling decided to put together a group to record the son

      3 Bedroom/3 Bath Penthouse Condo at the Peninsula in Aventura with Rooftop Terrace - $1,149,000 - Short-Sale
      I came across a short-sale listing today at the Peninsula in Aventura. It is a 3 bedroom/3 bath Penthouse condo with 3,400 square feet of interior space and a large 600 square foot private rooftop terrace. The views look simply amazing! It is listed at $1,149,000, or $338 per square foot.  The current owners paid $1,330,000 for this Penthouse condo in February of 2006. I haven’t visited this unit in person but the unit looks to be in very good shape judging by the pictures included with the MLS listing. It also appears to be vacant. The unit has its own private elevator and comes with marble floors. Peninsula was built in 2003 and is considered by many to be one of the best buildings in Aventura.

      Beatles Rooftop Performance: Let it Be an Iconic Moment in Rock History
      If I had to choose a single rock ‘n’ roll performance that could be labeled as the most iconic rock ‘n’ roll performance of all time, I think I’d pick the Beatles rooftop performance of Let It Be. Originally designed to a film about the songwriting and recording process, Let It Be remains on of my favorite Beatles albums and the show that summed up its finale, an impromptu show on the roof of Apple, remains one of my favorite rock ‘n’ roll concerts caught on film. I was lucky enough to find this entire show on YouTube, broken up into three sections, and there is also a planned DVD release (if it hasn’t been released already) with more of the session videos included. Here is part 1, 2, and 3. Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Although some of the songs played at this show are some of my favorite Beatles songs, there is something else for me that really makes it great. Although there would still be another album to come, Abby Road (rel
