      Romney: Atheists Need Religion Too
Mitt Romney spoke about the relationship between religion and politics again last week, continuing and clarifying the argument he made in December while still a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. The occasion for his recent remarks was his receipt of the prestigious Canterbury Medal awarded by The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. The award [...]

Hamas "Endorses" Obama, McCain and Romney Can Barely Contain Themselves
You would think that top Hamas adviser Ahmed Yousef, having declared he understands American politics, would realize that expressing his support for presidential candidate Barack Obama does the candidate a disservice. Yousef's comments, though fairly innocuous, were made to an American radio station earlier this month: We like Mr. Obama and we hope that he will [inaudible] the election. I do believe he is like John Kennedy, a great man with a great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with [inaudible] and arrogance. In response to this, John McCain, who once earned my praise for speaking out against insidious "let's imply Obama is a Muslim terrorist" behavior, just couldn't contain himself. On Friday he not-so-subtly

Obama can't be this naive. In America, esteem doesn't come from your family background. In fact, a tough background is, in individual achievement-oriented America, prest

McCain and Romney Set Example For Clinton and Obama?
I read that Romney is now helping McCain. Formerly, they were bitter rivals. Now they are working together in the hopes that their cooperation will further cement McCain's pull with Republicans.Obama and Hillary haven't been too friendly with each other so far. They've been competing. Some say it is difficult to imagine any kind of union between the two once one establishes him/herself as the definite party leader. Still, seeing it work out between Romney and McCain, I'll bet a similar Democratic union is possible as well. Here's a thought: What if the Democrats consistently fail when it looks like they're guaranteed success on purpose? Could it be a...Conspiracy?"No dummy, for this reason..."Oh, it's so simple. I just couldn't see it. Wait! You're part of the conspiracy too!

How Mitt Romney Can Save the Country
In politics, perception is reality. Even though the President does not "manage" the economy, nor do we ever want him to, many people think that is what takes place. Consequently, a large portion of our citizenry vote for whom they feel will be best at "dictating" our economy, even if their choices are largely irrational. Because of this behavior, we hear daily how Hillary Clinton or Barack... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.

Mitt Romney made comments yesterday that sound to me as if he's trying to get the vice presidential nomination in Minneapolis this summer. Romney Supports McCain
Ever since I heard Mitt Romney on the CNN YouTube debate answer the question of whether water-boarding was torture (i.e., "Let's not say...Might overinform the terrorists"), I knew he wasn't the right candidate for me. I liked McCain's answer better (i.e., "Yes, it is torture, we don't need it, and shouldn't use it") and McCain seemed to have some good ideas in other areas (i.e., "I'll make us energy independent in 5 years."). For these reasons, I decided McCain was a superior candidate to Romney. McCain may not be the best candidate, and indeed, many think he's just like Bush. But in my eyes, Romney was even less an ideal. This is why it seemed odd that Romney kept going for so long. He seemed sure, sincere, and confident. McCain On Top, Romney Gone
Early on, I made up my mind that of all the Republican candidates, McCain was my favorite. I like his plan for making this country Oil Independent in 5 years. I liked how he was clear about how water boarding is torture. I didn't like how Romney's answer regarding water boarding included the idea that we should keep our interrogation tactics secret, and didn't mention whether or not water boarding was torture. That obviously meant that torture or not, waterboarding would be used in the future under Romney if deemed "necessary."I liked McCain's "Straight Talk," where he would plainly state things as he knew them or saw them. That directly contrasted with the Bush policy of, "I know what I'm doing, don't worry about it."For the past few months on the net, I've seen political ads with pi

This Just In: Romney Spent A Crap Load Per Delegate
From The Washington Post: Republican campaign operatives call it the Gramm-o-meter, the money a candidate spends per delegate won, in honor of Phil Gramm, the former Texas senator who spent $25 million and won just 10 delegates, or $2.5 million per, in 1996. By Republican strategist Alex Vogel's calculation, Mitt Romney is giving Gramm a run for his money. The former Massachusetts governor has spent $1.16 million per delegate, a rate that would cost him $1.33 billion to win the nomination. By contrast, Mike Huckabee's campaign has been the height of efficiency. Delegates haven't yet been officially apportioned, but roughly speaking, each $1 million spent by Huckabee has won him 20 delegates.Just as a point of reference: In 2006, the median annual household income according to the US Cen

I've been meaning to comment on this for awhile, and today may well be my last chance if McCain all but seals the deal tonight as expected. In any event, ever since Romney transparently pillaged Obama's "Change" theme, he has made a point of saying that we can't have change by just "putting the same people in different chairs" (or something similar to that). He then claims that his experience as a Blue State governor (and as a businessman) makes him uniquely qualified to be President. There's just one problem with that argument, which essentially argues that you need an outsider to create change, preferably an experienced governor, and definitely NOT a sitting member of Congress: most Presidents in modern times have fit Romney's "outsider" definition to a "T." This means that things may be much closer than anticipated and conservatives may be coming to their senses. To be honest, after Florida Romney was hurt. The Romney strategy feeds on momentum and winning one here or there wasn't doing it. By shifting his strategy to a more longevity focus, he has adjusted to the times and has renewed his campaigns momentum by allowing conservatives to get a taste of John McCain as the front runner, surprise surprise he is not what America thought they were getting. They were the clear favourite going into the final against the New York Giants. Almost everyone predicted a Patriot win, and until the final minutes that's what it looked like it would be. But with less than a minute left, Eli Manning threw a pass, that I'm sure will become legendary and will be played countless times tomorrow on television and on the internet, and hit Plaxico Burress for the touchdown to win the game 17-14. The Dems Debate Reaffirmed Why I support Romney and Conservatism
Watching the Democratic debate tonight, I realized three things: First, I realized how much I disagree with some of the Democratic views expressed (it was more of a reaffirmation than a revelation). Conservatism, even though it doesn't seem so at first, is about hope. It is about lifting people up and giving them confidence and self-respect. To those who truly understand, it is far more merciful to people that liberalism.Second, I was impressed with Barrack Obama's ability to not only listen to his opponent, but give her respect (at least at this particular debate). This is the polar opposite to McCain who only showed pure hatred, immaturity, lack of humility and inability to talk about the issues, instead evading tough questions by taking shots at Romney or stating who endorsed him.

But let us look into why I disagree with McCain more:1. His political temper tantrum after losing the nomination to President Bush was enough to turn me off.2. He supported the Edwards, McCain, Kennedy "Patients Bill Of Rights". This was nothing more than a gateway to economic anarchy. The so-called "bill of rights" allowed employees to sue their employers if their HMO's didn't pay their claims. Needless to say, I was disappointed by John McCain's victory last night in Florida. But what disappoints me even more is John McCain's character and integrity, or at least the lack thereof. Back in 2000 when McCain lost to Bush in South Carolina, despite his heralded victory in New Hampshire, many attributed his loss to last minute lies and gossip about him. He was so angry about how unfairly his opposition was fighting that he made a speech that offended many social conservatives, implying that his loss was partly because of them and their bias against him. A few years later was a key player in passing the bill McCain-Feingold, which put major restrictions on how candidates could raise money and limited their ads to the issues, among other things. This is an integral stat, since only Republicans are allowed to vote in the Florida caucuses, unlike some of the other open primaries.Looking at the issues specifically, here are the polling results:Those concerned with the economy most - Romney 37%, McCain 33%Those concerned with national security/war in Iraq most - Romney 31%, McCain 31%Those who are concerned with immigration most - Romney 63%, McCain 7%The poll also revealed Romney as the candidate that voters thought to be the most electable, with 76% saying they believe him to

Romney - McCain Race In Florida May Not Be a Close As We Think
As we saw in New Hampshire with Hillary Clinton's surprise victory over Barack Obama (who was supposed to win by a 10% margin), polls aren't always the most accurate. Admittedly, though, they are fairly "on" most of the time. However, according to the ACT Blog article "A Problem in the RCP Average", Romney may actually have a bigger lead in Florida than the major polls are telling us. I have updated the numbers since the above mentioned article was written. This is the average of all the latest polls (taken from the site realclearpolitics.com), which is far more accurate than any of the polls on their own. On average you can see that Romney and McCain are virtually tied for the lead. I have updated the numbers since the above mentioned article was written. Rudy Giulia

Romney Enjoys Four Point Lead In Florida before Tonight's MSNBC Debate
Going into tonight's Florida debate (which airs live on MSNBC at 9pm eastern and streams live at MSNBC.com), Mitt Romney leads in the Florida GOP polls. According to the most recent poll by Mason-Dixon, he is leading the pack at 30%, followed by McCain (26%), Giuliani (18%) and the Huckster (13%). This lead comes in spite of the media, not surprisingly, shooting most of its coverage John McCain's way.Check out the article "Romney, Obama lead in upcoming primaries" at MSNBC.com for more details.

According to today's New York Times, Willard doesn't appear to be making any friends amongst his GOP competitors:TAMPA, Fla. — At the end of the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire this month, when the Democrats joined the candidates on stage, Mitt Romney found himself momentarily alone as his counterparts mingled, looking around a bit stiffly for a companion. The moment was emblematic of a broader reality that has helped shape the Republican contest and could take center stage again on Thursday at a debate in Florida. Within the small circle of contenders, Mr. Romney has become the most disliked. With so much attention recently on the sniping between Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama on the Democratic side, the almost visceral scorn directed at Mr. Romney by his

From Reuters:Mitt Romney scored a breakthrough win over rival John McCain in Michigan on Tuesday, reviving his struggling campaign and scrambling a chaotic Republican presidential race with no clear front-runner. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, desperately needed a victory in the economically ailing Midwestern state where he was raised to keep his White House hopes alive after second-place finishes in the first two contests. "Tonight marks the beginning of a comeback, a comeback for America," Romney told cheering supporters in Southfield, Michigan. "Tonight is a victory of optimism over Washington-style pessimism." This week the New Hampshire capital's paper made a very clear announcement with regard to the presidential election: "Romney should not be the next president." According to the Monitor:If you were building a Republican presidential candidate from a kit, imagine what pieces you might use: an athletic build, ramrod posture, Reaganesque hair, a charismatic speaking style and a crisp dark suit. You'd add a beautiful wife and family, a wildly successful business career and just enough executive government experience. You'd pour in some old GOP bromides - spending cuts and lower taxes - plus some new positions for 2008: anti-immigrant rhetoric and a focus on faith.Add it all up and you get Mitt Romney, a disquieting figure who sure looks like the next president and most surely must be stopped. Edwards and Romney: Two Candidates, Two Views of Wealth, Two Phonies
The business section of The New York Times features a comparison of two candidates and their two different views of wealth, looking at John Edwards and Mitt Romney. While the far left won’t get it (as they’ve failed to understand why Democrats have been out of power for so many years), the differences ultimately show why nominating John Edwards will lead to a return to power by the Republicans. Most Americans strive to earn their own fortune, regardless of whether this is realistic, as opposed to wanting to place the government in charge of every aspect of their lives. Far more Americans want to be part of the successful business world than want to tear it down and realize that a growing economy is the only way to really reduce poverty. Most voters will understand that while reforms might be necessary, John Edwards’ ideas are not the solution. I’ve often noted a similarity between the junk science Edwards used to amass a fortune as a trial lawyer with the junk e

Romney Caught in Another Lie, "I Saw My Father March with Martin Luther King"
"I saw my father march with Martin Luther King," Romney said during his speech on religion in Texas on December 3. On "Meet the Press" Mitt repeated the same thing. George Romney was Governor of Michigan at the time and was a supporter of civil rights. The Romney campaign claimed that Mitt saw his father walk with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a march in Grosse Point, Michigan. According to The Boston Phoenix newspaper, George Romney's only appearance in Grosse Point was at a speech at a high school three weeks before King was assassinated and it was not a march with Dr. King present. There is also no documentation to support that Romney's father was at any of the marches that took place in Michigan with Dr. King. There were marches in Michigan but George Romney never attended any of them. The second and biggest point that proves he was lying, is the fact that Mitt Romney was in France at the time. Why I Can't Vote for Mitt Romney
A Conservative Christian Republican outlines why he can't vote for Mitt Romney. For the past two presidential elections, I've voted Republican. I'm fairly conservative with some of my values, although I do root for the underdog from time to time. In yesterday's News-Sentinel, Mormon beliefs were clearly spelled out in an excellent article. After reading them, I now must declare that if Mitt Romney is chosen as the Republican nominee, I won't be voting for him. Some people say that this is un-American. Are we now declaring that voters must separate their religion from their votes? That would be un-American. In fact, it would be totalitarian. I consider myself to be an evangelical Trinitarian Christian. As such, I can't divorce my faith from my vote. Therefore, I will not vote for Romney in the Presidential primaries or national election. There are several key doctrinal issues that cause problems for me.Firstly, Mormons are not Christians. They consider themselves to be, but the
