The water trickles over rocks to open an infinite afternoon of ice drinks melting slowly on our tongues as I return to forever and recall a moment in time when music changed for me for all time. I had been playing folk music, and played with a coupla guys in bars around Monterey, as well as hitting the wharf with our guitar cases open. Three part harmony with songs that were as simple as we were.
Voices chanting a welcome to life start this cut off like a sunrise. The percussionists join in and I’m entranced, up and moving through the world as a dancer without feet, flying freely. The world is no longer a collection of nations, but one place of peace with every voice singing in harmony. The guitar playing is being fed by the musicians and vice versa. I float over the world hearing one i

A couple of American music legends wowed fans in Tokyo yesterday. Pop star Cyndi Lauper (54) was her usual maniac self during a mini concert to promote "Bring Ya to the Brink," her first original album in seven years. It went on sale in Japan yesterday, ahead of its May 27 U.S. release. At the Maru Building in front of Tokyo Station, Lauper performed four songs, including the track "

As the old saying goes, there's a first time for everything; that holds especially true for Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins as according to the Associated Press, Rollins was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle; it was originally hurt nearly two weeks ago when he was running the bases against the New York Mets on May 8. As a result, Eric Bruntlett has started at shortstop for the 11th consecutive game, batting only .179 with a home run and an RBI. Other than Tomas Perez back in 2000, Bruntlett is the first Phillies SS besides Rollins to start 10 games at the position. Prior to the injury, Rollins was batting .308 with 2 doubles, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.
This week we look at who should be a better pick in 2008, Chase Utley or Jimmy Rollins
Rob McQuown--In real baseball? I don't think it's even close. Utley is so far ahead of other second-basemen offensively, that it's not even funny. The "gold glove" for Rollins doesn't make him elite on defense... he's good, but so is Utley, and Rollins' lack of on-base percentage makes him a lot less useful
Henry Rollins is shooting his mouth off again…and this time it’s about Britney Spears. He claims that Britney can’t sing on her own albums. This is what he said:
“They have the black chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them together,” said Rollins, who has his own talk show [...]
...Here is a great article from the NY Post, it talks about Jimmy Rollins' most recent comments questioning the Mets and the rest of the NL's desire to win.The article has the following to say:"A few days ago, the Philadelphia Inquirer had a report of a Rollins interview with Men's Journal in which Rollins, who correctly forecasted a division title last season, discussed the Phillies being the team to beat in '08. "That wasn't a one-year thing," Rollins said. "It's still gonna ring true in 2008 and every year I'm with the Phillies. We're going to win. It's gonna come down to who wants it more, and we want to win more than the Mets do." Yesterday Wagner said, "He's right. He's right that they're the team to beat. They're excited they got to the playoffs. As far as do they want it more? It's

Theodore Walter "Sonny" Rollins (born September 7, 1930 in New York City) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Rollins' long, prolific career began at the age of 11, and he was playing with piano legend Thelonious Monk before reaching the age of 20. Rollins is still touring and recording today, having outlived most of his contemporaries such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Max Roach, and Art
I found the Alfie cassette in my father’s moldy smelling cassette bag that he kept under the television. I listened to it constantly alone in my room. Sometimes I’d even pretend to play along even though at the time I didn’t play any instrument.
I especially liked Alfie’s Theme. I also wondered who Alfie was. I [...]

Personally that lyric cannot be further from the truth, however since I have some news concerning Mr. Rollins I thought that it would be fitting. Last week I had a chance to check out the Los Campesinos live at Le National opening for Kevin Drew. Up front I want to say that I didn’t stay for Kevin Drew, frankly my nerves were shot from work, my girlfriend and I were feeling less than 100% and I don’t like Spirit If much. If you want a great review of KD’s show check out The False 45ths opinion here. The Los Campesinos have been a great addition to the music of 2007, like a already said months ago here. I heard they stole the show in Toronto the day before, which doesn’t surprise me, they gave the crowd at Le National everything they had with the style and energy of a headlining act. These guys are the personification of fun, changing my sour Montreal winter mood to more pleasant one. The set list was what I expected, mixed with some tracks I haven’t heard
MLB has announced that Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has been named the National League MVP for the 2007 campaign. Rollins is the second consecutive Philadelphia player to win the award. Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard won the award in 2006. Rollins withstood a lot of criticism from many corners by saying before the season that he expected the Phillies to be the team to beat in the N.L. East. The New York Mets had won the division in 2006, and led for most of the 2007 season. But a combination of a Philadelphia surge and a New York collapse got the Phillies the title.Rollins won the award in the closest contest in 16 years. He beat out Colorado Rockies left fielder Matt Holiday by a vote of 353-336. Rollins received 16 first place votes while Holliday captured 11 first place ballots. Rollins was the first shortstop in the National League to win the MVP since Barry Larkin won the award in 1995. Rollins also was awarded the NL Gold Glove at shortstop, Larkin and Dodger
Jimmy Rollins edges Matt Holliday to win the National League MVP award.
“It never crossed my mind that I would go out there and win an MVP,” Rollins said on a conference call from California. “I had a real big smile on my face, to make it simple. I was excited but I wasn’t quite sure what to feel.”
He batted .296 with 30 homers, 94 RBIs and 41 steals from the leadoff spot, helping Philadelphia rally from a big September deficit to win the NL East.
Well, in my opinion (and many other readers of this blog), the best man won the National League MVP award for 2007!!! Congratulations to Jimmy Rollins who had an absolutely amazing season this year with a .296 batting average, 30 home runs, 94 RBIs and 41 steals from the leadoff spot, helping the Philadelphia [...]
Jimmy Rollins was award the National League MVP award. He just beat out Colorado Rockies' Matt Holliday. The voting was very close with Rollins beating out Holliday by only 17 points, the closest vote since 1991. The break was, Rollins listed first on 16 ballots, second on seven, third on four, fourth on four and fifth on one for a total of 353 points. Holliday's had 11 first-place votes, 18 seconds, one third, one fourth and one sixth for 336 points.
I don't agree with this, as I thought Matt Holliday should have won, but Jimmy Rollins isn't a bad choice. Congrats Jimmy...From CNNSI:Jimmy Rollins won the National League MVP award in a close race over Matt Holliday on Tuesday, boosted by speed and steady all-around play that drove the Philadelphia Phillies to their first playoff berth in 14 years. The Gold Glove shortstop received 16 of 32 first-place votes and finished with 353 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.Holliday, who led Colorado's surprising charge to the World Series, was the runner-up with 11 first-place votes and 336 points. Milwaukee slugger Prince Fielder came in third, with five first-place votes and 284 points."
I've been going over this for the last ten minutes, and I'm still convinced I'm missing something. There are 32 voters. 1+4+12+7+1+1+2= 28. 32-28=4.Four of the voters didn't have Wright on their ballot. Four people, whose job it is to write about baseball, did not think that David Wright was one of the ten most valuable players in the National League.Troy Tulowitzki got a third place vote. This makes me very happy.I like to think one guy's ballot had Wright second, Rollins fifth, and Fielder eighth. It was pointed out over at MetsBlog (which is running really slowly for some reason) that this is the second year in a row that the winner wasn't the most valuable player on his own team. Good work by everybody involved.Pujols is like the perfect storm. High expectations, bad April, bad team, great defensively, walks a ton. This is a guy who should have been top 5 on every ballot finishes 9th.The fact that Ryan Howard finished ahead of Jake Peavy, Chase Utley, Chipper Jones and
Anyone know where Henry Rollins is right now? If you do, please tell show him what Endgadget writer Ryan Block did to Black Flag. And then give him my permission, along with a hundred thousand other punk rockers young and old, to kick Ryan’s ass, film the ass kicking, and then post it on YouTube along with the music to “Damaged II”.
Ok that sounded a bit too violent. But come on Ryan. Stealing from Black Flag? Associating a Punk Rock icon with the hallmark of American consumerism? You make me miss my youth and melancholy angst terribly right now.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Tree Rollins will remain the coach of the Washington Mystics. The Mystics on Tuesday removed the interim tag from Rollins, who led the team into playoff contention after Richie Adubato resigned in June following an 0-4 start. “We felt that Tree took over our team during a tough situation, and our players responded to his coaching style,” general manager Linda Hargrove said. “We think that he has earned the opportunity to coach our team and lead us to a more…

Subterranean was Jurassic Park meets Journey to the Center of the Earth, but with a lost tribe of marsupial humanoids. It was just great. Great action, great adventure, great suspense, great mystery, and even some great romance — this book had it all. It starts with some great characters: Ashley, an American anthropologist with her son Jason; Ben, the Australian cave diver; Linda, an American biologist; Khalid, a Egyptian geologist; and Michaelson, the Army man with a hand full of SEALS backing him up. These people form a team that Doctor Blakely has put together to search a cave under the Antarctic continent. There are other characters that come and go, some a little more unexpectedly than others. In the main cavern, Alpha Base, dwellings have been carved all along one wall. Thousands of years old, maybe millions, these small homes belong to an extinct humanoid creature, or so the scientists believe. There are worm holes leading off the main cavern and the team has been put together
Pete Rollins is continuing on his US Speaking Tour and coming to Princeton Theological Seminary this week. There will be a number of times to be able to listen to him speak and dialogue with him.
Wed, Nov 29th: Pub Conversation at Charlie Brown's on Rt 1 @ 8pm with the Princeton Emergent Cohort
Thurs, Nov 30th: Informal Lunch Conversation in PTS Dining Hall
Thurs, Nov 30th: Lecture and Q&A Session in Stuart Hall from 7-9pm
Fri, Dec 1st: Pete will be speaking to Dr. Stacy Johnson's The Reign of God class at 1.30pm
As I've mentioned before, Pete's book "How (Not) to Speak of God" is brilliant and probably the most important book for the emerging church put out yet. His combination of theological and philosophical discourse, combined with practical examples of how such a deeply mystical theology gets worked out....it's just great.
If you are in the Princeton area - I strongly urge you to take advantage of getting the chance to hear Pete speak. From just hearing him at AAR/S
The newest version of The Nick and Josh Podcast, the 30th Episode Aniversary Show kicks off with Peter Rollins, author of How (Not) to Speak of God a book that is “. . . a must read for anyone who has ever heard the name ‘Jesus’. . . ” according to the latest podcast.
