The initial archive of Playboy will be all issues from the 1950’s (72 total). It will also come with a hard copy reproduction of issue number 1, the famous Marilyn Monroe cove. It will also have a paperback book edited by Hef. No details on the book, but I’m guessing it will be a restrospective on launching the magazine and contain the same stories that are featured whenever a retrospective is done.
The Rolling Stone set will have 1024 issues. I’m not sure if this is a complete archive. It will include a one year subscription to the magazine.
The Rolling Stone set will retail for $125 and the Playboy 1950’s set for $100.

In the wake of large magazines having green issues or going completely green, Rolling Stone decided to jump on this bandwagon. In premise, it’s a great ideas — a hip, young magazine would have a different readership than SURFING or Vanity Fair — but in practice, Rolling Stone falls short.
While the articles about Al gore and Robert Kennedy Jr. are interesting, they aren’t innovative or original. And when Rolling Stone claims that the issue is carbon neutral, it means they donated money to a farm that plants a tree for everyone they cut down. I like that, but its’ not enough to proudly proclaim “carbon neutral” on your cover, now is it?
Additionally, they claimed they couldn’t print this issue on recycled paper because it would diminish the quality of their very important photographs. Ecorazzi thinks this is bull. Do you?
It’s great Rolling Stone tried, but they’ve got a long way to go.
