Liria Mersini of the plus size fashion guide was recently on the Neil Cavuto show talking about the message that Star Jones, now super skinny, is sending to women regarding body image. I don’t think that Star is a role model for the body image of ladies at all. Those that are close to me know that when Star was heavier I thought she was one of the most beautiful women on the planet. When I used to watch Jones and Jury, I could care less about the show I was drooling over this bigger than life big woman.
In her first book You have to stand for something she was witty vibrant and most of all aware of her weight but it wasn’t a badge of disgrace. In her next book when I read an excerpt of it and how she was miserable when she was heavier and the negative things she is now

My grandmother, my mother, and many of my aunts were wonderful role models of mine. But Gladys came into my life when I was young with brand new babies. The church we attended at the time had a ministry where women delivered a small bible to families who had a new baby. I was a mother who was missing my own family terribly and I had recently given birth to my second child in 18 months. My first reaction was embarrassment because my house was a mess.
