Chris Ianetta's two-run homer capped a three-run sixth inning as the Rockies rallied for a 5-3 win over the Pirates in the first of a four-game series at Coors Field. Ianetta also singled in a run in a two-run fourth as the Rockies overcame an early 3-0 deficit. Ada

How fun is this interleague crap? I feel like I should send Bud Selig a cookie gram or something to thank him. And to think, I was against all this AL vs. NL chicanery when it all began about 10 years ago. Luke Hochevar retired 24 hitters on Wednesday - 17 of them were cut down ground balls. Exactly the kind of performance you like to see from your sinker ball pitcher. It was a triumph for Hochev

Bengie Molina and Aaron Rowand had RBI hits in the first inning for San Francisco, which has lost three of its last four games. Colorado snapped a four-game skid.
While it is true that extra-inning games are commonplace in Major League Baseball, it is extremely rare that they last as long as Thursday night's marathon between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres; it was without a doubt a game that wore out both teams' pitching staffs. The game itself mercifully came to an end when the Rockies' Troy Tulowitzki's game-winning double and RBI, pushing Colorado to the 2-1 win over San Diego in 22 innings at Petco Park. Colorado was led by Willie Taveras and Matt Holliday with 3 hits each - with Taveras scoring 2 runs and stealing a base while Holliday stole 2 bases; Tulowitzki and Clint Barmes added 2 hits each. The win went to Kip Wells (1-0) as he pitched 4 innings, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out 3.San Diego was led by a trio - Kevin

The Rox are one of my favorite teams and I am glad they have finally had success. Seems appropriate (sob)(apologies to:)Ernest Lawrence ThayerThe outlook wasn't brilliant for the Colorado nine that day;The score stood four to three with but one inning more to play. And then when Cooney died at first and Barrows did the same,A sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest clung to the hope which springs eternal in the human breast; They thought if only Casey could but get a whack at that -We'd put up even money now with Casey at the bat.But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake,And the former was a lulu and the latter was a cake;So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,For there seemed but little chance of Casey's getting to the bat.But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,And Blake, the much despised, tore the cover off the ball; And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,There was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third. Then from five thousand thro
After an 86 year drought the Boston Red Sox have won their second World Series in four years as they swept the Colorado Rockies Sunday night in Denver with a 4-1 victory. It is also the second World Series sweep by Boston in the last four years as they swept the ST. Louis Cardinals in 2004. The Red Sox scored off Colorado starter Aaron Cook in the first as David Ortiz had a RBI single driving home leadoff hitter Jacoby Ellsbury who started off the game with a double. Boston scored their second run off Cook as third baseman Mike Lowell led off the top of the fifth with a double, and scored as catcher Jason Varitek singled him home. The Sox drove Cook from the game in the top of the seventh, as Lowell led off the inning with a homer. Cook ended up going 6 plus innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits striking out 3 and walking no one. Boston started Jon Lester who was just the ticket for the Red Sox. The South Paw went five and two third innings of scoreless ball backing the Rockies hitters of
The Boston Red Sox have quite an impressive array of prestigious veteran players. David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Jason Varitek, Mike Lowell, and Curt Schilling are legendary name in MLB. But the reason Boston won game three of the 2007 World Series Saturday night and find themselves leading the Colorado Rockies 3-0 was due to the rookies. On the offensive end it was Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia, and on the pitching end it was Daisuke Matsuzaka, with second year closer Jonathan Papelbon coming in to put it away as Boston beat Colorado 10-5. Boston now finds themselves one victory away from their second World Series title in four years after an infamous 86 year drought.Game One was a blowout, Game Two was a pitcher's duel, Game Three was a rollercoaster. Boston broke open a scoreless tie as they beat up Colorado starter Josh Fogg scoring six runs in the top of the third. Dice-K for five and a third innings had the Rockies completely confused, but left the game in the sixth after allo

Last night, the Boston Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the 2007 World Series as they beat the Colorado Rockies in a tight pitching matchup, 2-1. Instead of a slug-fest, fans were treated to a pitcher’s duel, supplanted by both Boston’s and Colorado’s strong bullpens.Curt Schilling, who is making a strong case as being one of the top post-season pitchers of all time, allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings last night and impressive outings by Hideki Okajima (who went 2 1/3 amazing innings with 4 K’s) along with stud closer Jonathan Papelbon, sealed the Rockies’ fate.Ubaldo Jimenez held his own against the veteran Schilling, as he went a little more than 4 innings and gave up two runs, before being yanked by Clint Hurdle. If there was a bright side to the loss, the Colorado bullpen was excellent, but the offense could not produce anything at all. It’s critical the Rockies win at home in the next few days, or their series is done. From the looks of it, Boston looks strong and the magic tha
I watched some of the World Series last night, and I learned two things. One, Josh Beckett is well on his way to becoming one of the best post-season pitchers of all time. Two, for what it is worth, the layoff may have affected the Rockies; however, the Red Sox were just so much better, it doesn’t matter.Unless, you are just waking up, or didn’t know, the Boston Red Sox demolished the Colorado Rockies, the feel good story of October, 13-1. For now, it looks like the magic that Colorado had that enabled them to win 21 of their last 22 games fluttered away as Jeff Francis got lit up for six runs, and then the Rockies’ bullpen just imploded.Boston scored seven in the fifth and that more than anything led them to victory. It looked like the Sox were getting all the key hits and every play going their way; in hindsight seemed to be the exact opposite Colorado was experiencing.Folks, in the last four games, Boston has whooped up on any opponent their way, looking more like the Patriots
Alright Red Sox Nation don't start getting cocky now. I can just anticipate the talk shows Thursday in Boston, as Richie from Roslindale calls Dale Arnold, and Harvey from Braintree calls Eddie Andleman. They'll be talking about sweeping the Series, and the Colorado Rockies hadn't faced competition like Boston before in the post season. I'm sure the same guys called the shows after Game One of the A.L.C.S. after the Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians 10-3. That of course was before an 11 inning marathon that Boston lost and fell to Cleveland 3 games to 1.That was before Boston had to scratch claw and kick their way past the Indians, and if Cleveland third base coach Joel Skinner doesn't hold Kenny Lofton...well enough said. Just a word to the wise one game does not make a series. That being said the Boston Red Sox played as close to a complete game in all aspects, as may ever have been played in the Fall Classic as they completely took Colorado out of the game winning 13-1. Boston

This past week, I went on a trip to Vancouver aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. It was a two day journey where we stopped in Kamloops for the first night and what an experience!! We travelled through the Rockies in comfort and style and saw the mountains from a completely different perspective. We actually travelled through two mountains in the spiral tunnels. Besides the gorgeous views, there were many animal sightings. The staff on the Rocky Mountaineer were great and you felt like you were traveling first class. In the stop over in Kamloops, we went to a dinner and a show. The food was delicious and then we enjoyed the Two River Junction Show. Our trip to Vancouver was short but enjoyable. We stayed at the Pacific Palisades. Wow!! What a unique and beautiful hotel. The view from my room was breathtaking and from the 22nd floor, I was able to see the ocean, the city-line, the mountains and many more things. The sunsets and sunrises from the balcony where just picture-perfect.
"Rocktober" may have come to a halt in Denver at the moment. For those waiting for tickets and the opportunity to snatch them online, eh, you're screwed for now. From the Washington Post:DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies suspended World Series ticket sales Monday after overwhelming demand crashed their computer system."Right now we're shutting the system down," club spokesman Jay Alves announced outside Coors Field, drawing boos from fans. "We expect to be online at some point." "We're as frustrated and disappointed as they are," Alves said.Alves had said last week that the Rockies were prepared for any computer problems. On Monday, there were 8.5 million attempts to connect with the computers in the first 90 minutes after sales started, he said, and only several hundred tickets had been sold before the system had to be shut down. The Rockies put as many as 60,000 tickets up for sale online only, and team officials said their computers were ready to handle the expected crush. But two hour
So it now comes to the final two and many will now be asking the question as to who will win out of the Rox or Sox. It is now the final showdown as the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox face each other but only one can come out victorious and win the 2007 World Series. However many have tried before to predict who will win, only to find that it is a fool’s errand but that will not stop the fans of either baseball teams from saying that their team will win.
When you look at the statistics on paper it does look as though the Red Sox have the edge over the Rockies, although this is an advantage it will only go down to want kind of talent each team has on the day.
So who do you think will win the 2007 World Series, the Colorado Rockies or the Boston Red Sox?

Some people don’t like the fact that the Colorado Rockies World Series baseball tickets are only being sold online. Exactly why are people upset? Do people actually LIKE standing in line or camping out ala Thanksgiving night at the Best Buy automatic door?
Online ticket sales should be preferred. It’s fair to people that can’t take the day off work. What better method of purchasing tickets than to take a coffee break at 10am, hover over the refresh button, and have the same chance as anyone else? People are worried about others snatching them all up and reselling them. Well they’re doing that anyway, and it can be online or real world.
Here’s a video of Matthew Barnett fearing “What if a Hacker came in and bought 100 tickets.” And then qualifying his internet prowess by admitting he’s on dial-up.
Hackers? Please. People who throw around the work “hacker” have no idea what it even means or the scope
What an incredible time in Colorado sports. I usually don’t use this blog for sports, but it is kind of hard not to. The Colorado Rockies have had a Cinderella post season this far and have won the last 7 games in the post season in a sweep to get to the World Series. Whoever faces them in the World Series has got to be a little nervous to say the least. The best part of the team is that 15 of its 25 players on the post season roster are home-grown. With this the Rockies are a young team and should be a success for years to come. The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, our local AAA baseball team, has had a lot to do with the Rockies success. Sky Sox games have been fun over the years to watch and continue to be with the talent they are sending to the Rockies. 20 of the 25 players on the Rockies post season roster have played for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with 13 of them playing in 2007.The Sky Sox stadium (Security Service Field) is located near Springs Ranch in the Powers Area. Sky Sox tic
How about those ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, since Elway left there hasn’t been a lot to cheer about here in Colorado other than living in one of the prettiest places on the planet.
And what does all of this have to do with life insurance? The Rockies are a very unique team and like many professional sports teams they may want to consider key man insurance on players. After they win the World Series!!
Bottom line. Unfortunately even the young, strong and healthy sometimes die prematurely and if a business is dependent on them for their success and future, life insurance is a necessity.
Well, the Boston Red Sox are in trouble as they are now down 3-1 to the Cleveland Indians. Indians’ right hander, Paul Byrd, once again came through in the clutch; pitching five strong innings where only allowed two runs and struck out four. Once again, Cleveland had a huge inning, this time in the fifth, as Casey Blake started the fun with a home run. They would soon knock Tim Wakefield out of the game and that coffin was nailed shut for the Red Sox by Jhonny Peralta’s three-run homer. Peralta’s homer was the second for him in the series. Despite an amazing display of back-to-back-to-back home runs by Boston’s Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, they were done in Game 4. The Red Sox season may come to an end tonight as Josh Beckett needs to have another amazing game, and the Tribe counters with C.C. Sabathia, who has struggled in the playoffs.*** Meanhwile, what can you say about the Rockies? Incredible. Right now, they are the biggest st
Since the dawn of creation human beings have held great affection for the "Underdogs." From the Biblical tales of David versus Goliath through Rocky Balboa against Apollo Creed people just naturally support the challenger. It probably stems from some deep seeded primal urge that goes way beyond my area of knowledge but we have all done it, at one time or another. Baseball has been filled with tales of teams overcoming adversity to grab the brass ring. "Dem Bums" the Brooklyn Dodgers finally overcoming years of futility to beat the Monolithic New York Yankees, and finally win their first World Series! The "Amazin' Mets" under Gil Hodges in 1969 who shocked the planet and beat the highly favored Baltimore Orioles, seven years after setting the MLB record for most losses in a season. The 2004 Boston Red Sox down 0-3 to the Yankees in the A.L.C.S. only to come back from the brink and win eight straight games to finally bury the chants of "1918."Well Monday night a new name was added to ML
Take a look at my playoff gallery here --- Red Sox vs. Indians - ALCS, Game Two....Greetings everyone! It’s so good to be back home in Maryland. Anyhow, I was up in Boston on Saturday to partake in the whole playoff experience as I caught Game Two of the American League Championship series as the Cleveland Indians took on the Boston Red Sox.I decided to hop on a quick flight on Airtran from Baltimore-Washington International to Boston, since I really didn’t want to deal with traffic driving through the Northeast and I kind of wanted to be home on Sunday. That was the smartest decision I could have ever made. I was in Boston in an hour, and on the trip, I met some wonderful people who came to the Washington area to house-hunt and we talked about baseball, life in Washington, and our jobs.As I got off the plane and was about to head to train station en route to Fenway, the very same people whom I chatted with on the plane gave me a ride to the Green Line so I could see the game.I gre
Well, good morning to everyone. It looks like fall has finally arrived in this part of the world, as it is now freezing out. I’m happy that it doesn’t feel like Miami out anymore; however, the change from summer to fall happened way too quickly. Anyhow, the two teams no one would ever be in the NLCS, the Diamondbacks and the Rockies, played last night in the desert. Colorado continued its onslaught and defeated the Diamondbacks, 5-1. Basically, in case you have may not noticed, the Rockies only have lost one game within the last month. They jumped on Diamondbacks ace, Brandon Webb and they did it not with the long ball, but with singles, putting the ball in play and simple execution. Long story short, the Rockies put on a clinic on how to play winning baseball last night. The Diamondbacks had their chances, but didn’t make the most of it and the play that was indicative of that came in the seventh inning when Justin Upton tried to break up the double play slid
So there's baseball tonight. Yay.
But it's not the Cubs. Boo.
But still.
I can't decide who I hate more: the Rockies for injecting religion into baseball or the DBacks for beating the Cubs and generally being a bunch of tools. In the end, the Rockies have Matt Holliday and Glenallen Hill, so that tipped the balance. Besides, the Dbacks just won the WS like 6 years ago.
So there you go. Go Rockies.
Tonight Brandon Webb (ugh. trauma rears its ugly head) takes on Jeff Francis.
Discuss.
These were two teams nobody expected to see in the 2007 MLB Post Season, even as late as early September. But the Philadelphia Phillies went on an amazing jag to catch and pass the New York Mets on the last day of the regular season to win the National League East. For the Colorado Rockies, the situation was even more complex ending up tied with the San Diego Padres after the final game for the Wild Card spot. They then had to play a one game elimination game in which they defeated the Padres and went on to face the Phillies. No two teams react the same to a chase down the stretch, and the contrast was clear in the series between the Rockies, and the Phillies. The Rockies seemed to be exhilarated by the race where the Phillies seemed spent and exhausted. If that was not the determining factor in this series, it at least played a part, as Colorado swept Philadelphia 3-0 in the N.L.D.S. winning their game Saturday 2-1 to win their first Post Season Series in team history. The crafty veter
For my tenth birthday, my parents took me and a bunch of my friends to a Rockies game in their first year of existence. At the time, we were living in L.A. and I was a big Dodgers fan — well, a tiny Dodgers fan — but we always rooted for Colorado teams, too, because [...]
The Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies both sent rookie starters to the mound to start Game Two of the N.L.D.S. with Colorado ahead in the series 1-0. Both Rockies starter Franklin Morales and Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick were both overcome by the moment and were terribly ineffective. Morales lasted just 3 innings giving up 3 runs Kendrick 3 2/3 innings allowing five runs. The factor that separated the two teams were their respective bullpens. Arizona's limited the damage to just 2 more runs, Philadelphia's gave up 5 including a grand slam from Kaz Matsui off of the man who was supposed to start Game 4 Kyle Lohse. Outcome: Colorado 10 Philadelphia 5 and the Wild Card Rockies are just one game away from their first N.L.C.S. appearance.Second baseman Matsui was just a single away from hitting for the cycle. Troy Tulowitzki and Matt Holliday hit back to back jacks on consecutive pitches in the first. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel will send the pitcher to the mound that k
Jeff Francis held the league’s highest-scoring team in check and the Colorado Rockies took advantage of one shaky inning by Cole Hamels to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in Game 1 of their NL Division Series on Wednesday.
“Who would’ve thought a good old-fashioned National League game would break out in this ballpark?” Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said.
Making just the second postseason appearance in their 15-year history, the Rockies played like October regulars. Colorado posted its second playoff victory, the other coming in 1995, and won for the 15th time in 16 games.
Matt Holliday, his chin still cut up from the face-first slide that won Monday’s wild-card tiebreaker over San Diego, hit a solo home run.

Wow, talk about the “comeback kids”, the Colorado Rockies have certainly set a pace for this years pennant race with their miraculous season finish to clinch the wildcard position in the National League. The Rockies have been on fire recently and won 14 of their last 15 games, including a franchise record 11 game [...]
Imagine what it feels like to be a Mets fan right now (that was for you, Andrew). Or worse, a Rockies/Pads fan.
One game playoffs are no fun. Unless it's 1998 and we're beating the Giants. But still. How would you like to have our entire postseason hinge on one game? Who would we even start? Z? Lilly? Oh Dear God, not Marquis.
That's the situation Pads and Rockies fans are faced with tonight. After failing to beat the lowly Brew Crew and their certifiable manager hell-bent on retribution, the Pads opened the door and let Matt Holliday and the Rockies (led by 1B coach Glenallen Hill) waltz right on in. Tonight's one-game showdown features probable NL Cy Young-winner Jake Peavy (19-6, 2.36) against former Cub killer Josh Fogg (10-9, 4.79). On paper, anyone versus Jake Peavy appears to be a mismatch. Then again, at least 6 teams found a way to beat him this season.
Tonight's game will be on TBS starting at 6:37 pm. I plan on putting on my jammies early and making some drinks
The graph above is the fluctuations of the Rockies' playoff chances throughout the season. The most interesting part, of course, is the nearly vertical line on the far right. On September 16, just 12 days ago, Colorado was 76-72 and had just a 2.3% chance of making the playoffs. Two weeks ago, they were 250:1 to win the World Series at VIP.com.Well, when you win 11 games in a row, your chances are bound to improve, and they obviously have. They've climbed to within a game of the Padres for the Wild Card, and are just two back of Arizona in the West. What's amazing is that it's not like either the Diamondbacks or Padres have fallen apart. Over that same stretch, Arizona is 6-4, while San Diego has actually gone 8-4. The Rockies' odds were slim on 9/16 to begin with, but if they had known that the two teams ahead of them were going to play well, they would have been near zero. There's a reason for that- this winning streak wasn't exactly likely. At the beginning of the streak
My boyfriend and I visited the Columbia Icefield in Brewster's huge ice explorer machine this summer, it was definitely one of the coolest dates we had ever been on. Looking up at the Athabasca falls was phenomenal; we just couldn't get enough of the beautiful Rockies. I have always been in awe looking up at the mountains, so I was thrilled when our Brewster driver recommended we see the Icefield on a helicopter tour for even more incredible photo opportunities. The crew at Icefield Helicopters was experienced and extremely friendly. Our pilot told us about the history of the mountains, valleys and lakes as we flew over them at 10,000 feet above sea level. We were also educated on the region's wildlife, protection laws and what it's really like to fly a helicopter. Not to mention, we took some of the most spectacular pictures yet. Even for someone as scared of heights as I am, this trip is too great to pass up. I'd definitely recommend the Columbia Icefield and Helicopter Tour to
Step away from the McDreamy.
I think I figured something out.
We all know that the first two months of the season, the Cubs were bad at baseball. For all of April and part of May, none other than E6 himself was on the roster. Sometime around the beginning of May, E6 was unceremoniously shipped to Iowa. I give the team a few weeks to recove from the effects of an E6-influenced lineup, and right around the beinning of June, they get their act together and go on a tear.
In the month of July, the Cubs had gone an en fuego 13-6. Then on July 25, E6, for reasons still unclear and not understood, is brought back from Iowa. Since that time, the Cubs have gone 7-10.
Coincidence? I think not. Now we have a photo of him touching McDreamy before yesterday's game, and what did McDreamy do last night? He goes 1-4 and the Cubs get killed. I'm certain I've been seeing him sitting near DLee on the bench lately. If anyone has any evidence that E6 was anywhere near Ramirez about 10 days ago or Soria
With all due respect, Master, is he not the Chosen One? Is he not to destroy the NL Central and bring balance to the post-season?
So the prophecy says.
The quad-tearing of Alfonso Soriano brought upon us much hand-wriging amongst Cub Nation. "Who will step up to the plate (heh) and lead this team to victory?" we cried. "For Derrek Lee seems to have lost his power and Aramis Ramirez takes many a day off. We are doomed, finished, destined to fall! Unless one steps forth who can fill the power void and lift this team to great heights!"
"Send us the Chosen One!" And it was so.
Last night Jacque had his third multi-hit game in a row. He's hitting .400 over his last nine games, including going 4-5 last night. He's driven in 6 runs in the last two games, 4 on Thursday and two more last night. Now that weve lost Fonzie and Aramis, at least for the time being, and as long as DLee couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat right now, I think perhaps the talk of moving Jacque should cease
I love it when the Cub fans outnumber the opposition.
The Cubs have yet again responded to Lou. After his "relax and have fun" meeting yesterday, the team went and banged out 10 runs to stop a four-game losing streak. But now comes the real test, as the terrifying sight of Jason Marquis enters Coors Field.
Asking Marquis not to give up home runs at Coors is like asking Lindsay Lohan and Scott Spezio to only "keep watch" over a bag of cocaine. Marquis, who is 8-7 with a 4.39 ERA, has given up a combined 23 runs in his last four starts. Not good. Hope for lots more Cubs runs, and pray Marquis' outing doesn't turn into this:
For the Rockies, it's Aaron Cook (8-6, 4.16 ERA), or what Matt Murton might look like if he were older and had a goatee. He's won four of his last five starts and done well to lower his ERA, as it was 4.93 less than two months ago. Also included is his South Park characiture, which has nothing to do with the game, just that I like South Park.
Great things may
I bet you're expecting to see a typical "rah rah, let's get a win" game thread today, aren't you? Well there are more important issues at hand. I would like to take a minute to talk to you all about an issue that has been tearing this site apart.
Never did I think I would see such animosity amongst brethern, friend vs. friend, Cub fan vs Cub fan. I breaks my heart to see such a cesspoll of controversy.
I speak, of course, regarding the flames.
Though I would like to address the issue in person, I believe the creator of the flames, bag, and chili pepper lights has said it better than I ever could.
Without further ado, I give you Abe's Response To The Flame Controversy: The flames first appeared on May 15, after Zambrano crushed the Mets 10-1. The Cubs were 1 game below .500.
The next day, the Cubs lost to the Mets 8-1, and the flames moved down to the bottom of the pennant, as if, like Icarus, the Cubs had flown too close to the sun and melted their wings.
They lost again the nex
With a MLB season high 23 hits, the Colorado Rockies smashed the Milwaukee Brewers 19-4 on Wednesday.
However for the Brewers it was their fourth loss in a row.
Ryan Spilborghs, an outfielder for the Colorado Rockies said:
“Today’s like one of those snowball days where it just keep going and hits keep coming,”
“We’re almost fighting each other to get to the bat rack on days like this.”
How long do you think the Colorado Rockies can continue this run?
Also, are the Brewers going to snap out of their losing streak any time soon?
What do you think?

Today we go for the series win, and hope the Mets fall on their face (though that would be Tommy wouldn’t get win #300 so it’s a tough one for me). After todays game (speaking of the Mets) the Braves head to New York for 3 games against the division leader. Now would be the [...]
Well has anyone recovered from last night?
As mentioned earlier, Lance Cormier has been re-called from AAA Richmond and Jo-Jo Reyes has been sent back down. For tonight Lance will pitch out of the bullpen, and then take over the #5 spot in the rotation. Add on to that, Shortstop Edgar Renteria is most likely out [...]

We're on Day 2 of the Jacque Jones Trade Watch, no thanks to Bud Selig and Sam Zell. Hopefully something will be done tomorrow on the off day. Also, I found this item interesting from Ken Rosenthal:
Jones has a limited no-trade clause in which he could veto deals to six teams of his choosing. The Cubs, in trying to accomodate Jones' desire for a better situation, approached him about trades to two of the teams on his no-trade list, one of which was the Pirates, in recent days, a source said. Jones said no to both possibilities, according to the source.
Well, I guess if I was a player, the Pirates would be on my list too. (Props, as always, goes to Abe for the pic. The guy works wonders with Photoshop and never fails to deliver the best).
Right now, the Cubs are hotter than Jessica Biel in this month's GQ (pick it up, you won't be disappointed). Unfortunately, so are the Brewers. So, in this whole win streak thing, the Cubs have picked up a whopping
Ahhh, there's nothing like a good 9th inning rally to fire up the team and get all the fans interested again, as evidenced by the fact that, at the beginning of the 9th last night, we had 3 people logged in. By the end of the 9th, we had 11 people logged in. I get it. You are people who demand excellence. .500 isn't good enough for you. You want this team to shoot right past an even W/L record and straight to the top of the division.
Know that you have been heard and your wishes communicated to your team. Now that they are clear on your position, I expect we'll see a lot more winning.
[Update] According to TribCo, the Cubs have traded Jacque Jones to the Florida Marlins.[Update]
[Update: 5:52 CST] According to Ken Rosenthal the Jones-Marlins deal has hit a snag. Tonight Ted Lilly (5-4, 3.90) takes the mound against the evil Rodrigo Lopez (4-0, 2.93).
It's pouring out here in the western burbs (well done, Tom Skilling), so let's hope we can get this one in. An off-day might hars
Coming off the sweep of the fading Sox, the Cubs now turn their eyes to an underrated team in baseball this season, the Colorado Rockies. Before losing their last three (hopefully a good sign for the Cubs), Colorado had won nine of its last 12 games and stand at one game over .500 (38-37, or where the Cubs should at least be at this point).
This young man you see right here is tonight's starter for the Rockies, Jeff Francis, back when he was signed in 2002. Five years later, Francis has evolved into a pretty good southpaw. Lately, he's been dynamic, giving up two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight outings. For the season, he's 7-5 with a 3.44 ERA. However, he's Canadian, a downfall, at least according to Sheila Broflovski.
"They're not even a real country anyway" For the Cubs, Mr. Hot/Cold himself, Jason Marquis, is back to try again. During his last start, Marquis couldn't figure out how to land his foot after pitches, which resulted in becoming a part of history

Hello, friends. This is Ted of A Price Above Bip Roberts reporting with his final OBoS post of the weekend. When you really get down to it, I probably should have made the theme something related to Father's Day. Then again, between 100 Percent Injury Rate doing their Best Fathers List, and Big Daddy Drew posting a Father's Day timeline (recycled, but still funny) on KSK, I figured that was done. And because I slept maybe 8 hours in the last 3 days, I didn't see myself being able to be funny. So we're kicking it with bad baseball teams, because we're depressed there's nothing else to watch (we don't count NASCAR as a sport because we're not from Tennessee, and we don't like golf because we're not from New Canaan and 67 years old). Right now: the Rockies. Here's the thing, though. The Rockies aren't really that bad (35-33 currently, and 5 games back in the NL West). As always, their issues return to pitching because of the whole "the air is thinner, I think, I mostly spent sc

Rockies and Orioles - June 10th, 2007Who in the hell is Ryan Spillborghs?Well, he managed to make Sunday miserable for the Orioles and all of their fans. As we all know by now, the Orioles lost 6-1 last night; thus, the Rockies took two of three from the Birds this weekend.Let’s go back to Ryan Spillborghs. He hit two homers and drove in a career-high six RBIs, as he three hits. In addition, he had one homer off Erik Bedard and then a three-run shot off of John Parrish. The Orioles scored in the second inning, as Aubrey Huff drove in a run. In a continuous theme this season, the team had little offense to counter the opponent with and suffered.Well, the starter for the Rockies, Jason Hirsh who only had two wins, with six losses and and ERA around near five, threw a complete game five-hitter that saw him only give up one run on five hits.In other words, we made Hirsh look like Greg Maddux or Jake Peavy. The bats need to wake up for the O’s, as it is sort of a problem when Brian Robert
Rockies and Orioles - June 9th, 2007I went to the game last night, and here some shots from the game. I'll have the game report and some links and to various articles, stuff.I've got to do Beltway Baseball this afternoon, then go to Camden Yards to do a shoot, and attend the game tonight.Until then, I hope you enjoy the photos...
With the Yanks slumping and still 11 games back in the AL East, you can bet that the team is going to do whatever it takes to get back in the race in the division. If that means going out and making some big news, so be it. One player that the team is eyeing according to the Denver Post is first basemen Todd Helton. While Helton has been a mainstay with the Rockies, the rumors of him being shopped around have been brewing for quite some time.Helton is hitting .354 with 5 homers and 26 RBI for the last place 21-27 Rockies. Last year he hit .302 with 15 homers and 81 RBI in 145 games, and the year before .320 with 20 homers and 79 RBI. His production the past two years is a far cry from earlier in his career, such as 2001, when he hit .336 with 49 homers and 146 RBI. Since that year his HR numbers have dropped from 49 to 30, 33, 20, 15. A change of scenery will not likey reproduce numbers like 2001, but he is a better hitter than the 15 homer he hit last year.He has done a nice job
