In addition, he populated his own New York studio grounds with his sculptures.A new movie, George Rickey… Works, explores the works of the artist and includes interviews with the sculptor. Riding with Rickey
Occasionally someone leaves a comment here asking whether there are qualifications to be a reviewer, or if "just any [insert epithet here] can do it." I love this question, because it assumes that there is a big glut of reviewers out there fighting to review a limited supply of blogs. In fact, there are only a couple dozen people who are willing to do regular reviews, while at last count there are around 300 blogs waiting to be reviewed. At three per week, it will take 2 years just for us to get caught up. So in answer to your question, Mr. PhD in Blog Criticism, yes, any idiot/moron/jerk can be a reviewer. What would you have me do, interview prospective reviewers? "I see that you frequently comment on the consistency of your wife's gravy, and often tell people waiting in line at the

Rickey Might Finally Retire ... Nah
We always assumed that Rickey Henderson, while being one of the greatest players to play the game, would never actually be enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Why, you ask? Because he will never actually admit that he is retired. We imagine Rickey still playing for some semi-pro team, talking about coming back, well into his 60's. The A's might have masterminded a plan to put that talk to an end though. From the Chronicle:Rickey Henderson, baseball's all-time stolen base leader and a man whom general manager Billy Beane calls "probably the greatest Oakland A's player ever,'' is sitting by his phone, hoping his former team will call. And maybe, in September, it will -- for one day only. For the first time, [A's GM Billy] Beane said that the team might consider bringing Henderson back for one game -- perhaps when rosters expand in September -- so that he could retire in an A's uniform. The A's would be open to the idea as long as it was workable with the roster situation at

      Rickey, Rickey, Rickey…
I just don't know. I remember watching the A's in the playoffs in the 1980's when they had an amazing pitching staff and the Eck to close out games. They had a lot of other solid hitters and they had the Bash Brothers who offered the threat to go deep with every at bat. But the guy who was on base in front of them was one Rickey Henderson. In my mind, Rickey is among the very best players . . . and best personalities of my generation. I remember reading about his obsessive workout practices that saw him just randomly do sit-ups while waiting in a doctor's office or any other instance of downtime. His quotes are almost Yogi Berra-esque and oddity seems to follow him at every turn. And it seems, though I cannot recall any official announcement of retirement, Rickey tries to mount a comeback in some fashion every season. Why should 2007 be any different? Two years ago, Henderson suited up in the Golden Baseball League, but he hasn’t hit an MLB field since 2003 when he pla

I want to sign with the Cubs before the season starts," the Cubs' pitching ace said in an interview on WGN-TV. "If they don't sign me, sorry, but I must go. That's what Carlos Zambrano thinks." "When you're a great pitcher and have talent, you deserve
