With Egyptian strings and Senegalese percussion, his incantatory voice soared into the warm night sky. The album is about Islam, the Mouride brotherhoods of his native Senegal and their message of peace. The occasion was the F

On Friday afternoon, I arrived at Hit Radio and then was taken to the Villa des Arts to pick up my press pass for the Mawazine Festival. I cannot express how grateful I am that Younes at Hit Radio was able to arrange this for me.Founded in 2001, the “Mawazine Festival: Rhythms of the World”

It’s true, Most hip hop hits have extremely simple drum rhythms. Although they may be simple, don’t be fooled. There’s more to it than meets “the ear”.
What do I mean?
While listening to various hits on the charts, you might at one time or another asked yourself “Why does this beat move so well even though [...]
If the afterworld includes a red-light district, Erotic Rhythms from Earth would qualify as its soundtrack. The third recording from Austin, Texas programmer/multi-instrumentalist Shane O'Madden beckons you into an off-focus world of amorphous boundaries, one that hovers somewhere between eternity and soft-core carnality. Double bassist Doug Johnson (www.myspace.com/douglasjohnson) has written a series of fascinating blog posts on the relationship between pitch cycles per second and how these translate to beats per minute. This is heady and fascinating stuff! Doug writes: ....pitches in music are measured in frequencies, or more specifically "Hertz" (Hz), which are cycles per second. Most western music is tuned to A-440, which means that the pich "A" above middle C is 440 Hz. This will be my reference for the pitch to tempi table below. When a frequency is doubled, it sounds exactly one "octave" higher. So if 440 Hz is an A, then 880 Hz will be an A one octave higher, as in the first and last do in do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do. Halving A-440 will result in A-220, which is an A one octave lower. Now, since octaves "resonate" with each other, and if you play the bass you know what I mean, tempi can also resonate with pitches. Tempi are measu
Abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) are sequences of heartbeats that are irregular. They are too fast, too slow, or conducted via an abnormal electrical pathway through the heart. Heart rhythms differ from one person to the other. Health, age and fitness are often key factors.
The heart is a muscular organ with four chambers, designed to work efficiently, reliably, and continuously over a lifetime. The muscular walls of each chamber contract in a regulated sequence, pumping blood as required by the body while expending as little energy as possible during each heartbeat.
Contraction of the muscle fibers within the heart is controlled by electricity. This flows through the heart in a precise manner, along distinct pathways and at a controlled speed. The electrical current that begins each heartbeat, originates in the heart's pacemaker, located in the top of the upper right heart chamber (right atrium). The rate at which the pacemaker discharges the electrical current determines the
I recently found this excellent post on the blog If at first you don't succeed...Rhythms are a good technique to use when you want to bring a passage up to speed. The other common technique is to play with a metronome, starting slowly, then gradually increasing the tempo. What the rhythms do is increase the speed of movement between notes, while allowing time on the longer notes to recover your balance (if needed) and prepare mentally for the next short block of fast notes. By changing the rhythm, you change which fast notes are coming, and change the challenges, like shifts and string crossings - easy when slow, more complicated at tempo, but with more time to prepare.Read the complete post here. This is an excellent blog written by a cellist detailing her practicing trials and tribulations. Also, she's a big cat lover, which is never as bad thing in my book!Related Posts:Nontraditional audition adviceGetting out of the practice roomFun with colored pensSound and motion in double bas

I've always been a big fan of solid percussion, but the music we generally call indie tends to deemphasize the drums, perhaps with the goal of creating distance between indie and the drum fetishists over in the metal and hard rock section.

Guitar solos can get boring when they only use one rhythm. One way to spice up your solos is to play different rhythms while in your guitar solo and improvisation. This is a great exercise to help you learn to switch rhythms while playing lead guitar.
