The last time the Kentucky Board of Education met they discussed the first of six alleged errors on Barbara Erwin's resume. Erwin presented plaques and rings to support her claim that she was named 1998 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators. Subsequently, Dr. Johnny Veselda, Executive Director of TASA told reporter Ronnie Ellis, "I believe it is reasonable for her to say she was twice named Superintendent of the Year." He made this comment despite the fact that his organization presents no such award.Erwin claimed the error was a "typo."But let's give her the benefit of the doubt. At last, I drag together enough time and inspiration to squeeze out another post. It's been a long time coming but don't get too over excited. I've seen a lot of arguments recently, I've not participated in many, but I've witnessed quite a few. Arguments in modern times seem to quickly dissolve into shouting matches, with all sides deciding they'll win if they repeat themselves the most at the highest volume. Well this may work for dogs and retards, but civilised human beings should use one of these less violent and noisy alternatives:1. Each side can put forth a well thought out and coherent argument, before hearing the next participants viewpoint, then decide on a course of action, possibly a compromise to the benefit of all parties.2. Good news from DEFRA today - the department is going to work with leading retailers to develop a standard labelling system for food. Consumers need reliable information to make meaningful ethical decisions, and standardised, regulated labels are central.
It will be interesting to see how these labels, which are likely to focus on greenhouse gases, relate to existing schemes with different criteria, such as Organic and Fair Trade.

TONIGHT the conversation around my kitchen table turned to New Year’s resolutions.I don’t know why we bother. I know my vow to eat half a lettuce leaf and a pea every day until Keira Knightley is begging me to be her body double is doomed to failure and my friend knows the once a week visit to the gym will be once in a blue moon before the sweat has dried on her Nike vest.We decided it would be better if we made resolutions we could definitely stick to. I have therefore vowed to watch more television, read more trashy novels, neglect the garden, drink more red wine, talk embarrassingly loudly in the pub after a couple of gins and utter at least two sarcastic comments a day to the Dearly Beloved.We also thought up a few resolutions for other people:I will always check I’m wearing knickers before I go out. Pittsburgh Brewing Co. continues to try to keep its head above water while it finalizes an agreement with an equity investment firm.In the latest moves, the company made a $49,000 payment to the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau after the government agency had filed a motion to U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge M. Bruce McCullough to close the bankrupt brewer because the firm had failed to make a promised payment on Jan. 1st for the overdue excise taxes. Then the company was able to get negotiators for the 145 members of the International Union of Electrical Workers-Communication Workers of America Locals 22B and 144B who work at the plant to agree to contract concessions. The workers will vote on the new pact on Jan. 21st. John Milne of Westport, Conn., who leads the investor group, will become Pittsburgh Brewing's new CEO.
