With the official resignation of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer now out of the way, it appears that the establishment media can get back to reporting on what by all accounts clearly matters most in this scandal: the sex.
Though most national and New York media outlets did lead with the actual resignation speech, delivered in Manhattan around midday, Wednesday, the fact that the embattled governor was now to be the less embattled ex-governor made Spitzer’s troubles, and how we all were made aware of them, essentially, old news.
So, what’s new—or more to the point, what’s news? Why it’s the identity of the 22-year-old woman known as “Kristen” in the affidavit that details her liaison with Client 9 (Spitzer) at a DC hotel just last month. The local NBC affiliate newscast gave h

I hardly ever watch NBC these days, but I remember when they used to run these commercials called The More You Know that featured actors from NBC shows, usually comedies like Will and Grace or some such. They were PSAs about how drunk driving might be a bad idea or taking drugs could potentially screw your life up, that kind of thing. I was always greatly amused by these commercials. The idea is that there’s someone out there that’s going to hear Chandler from Friends tell them that they shouldn’t drink and drive … and this person is suddenly going to be like, “You know, he’s right. I’m going to stop drunk driving right now and you know what? It’s all because of Chandler. He taught me something there. I’m a more educated man after hearing this PSA.” And the next time this man is out drinking, and he’s stumbling out of the bar and he falls up against his car and he’s fumbling for his keys, he’s going

Indonesian troops deliberately killed five Australian journalists in East Timor in October 1975, possibly committing a war crime, a coroner said today.the New South Wales state deputy coroner, Dorelle Pinch, who heard evidence from witnesses and looked at secret intelligence documents, rejected Indonesia's insistence for decades that the newsmen died accidentally in fighting between Indonesian troops and East Timorese fighters."The journalists were not incidental casualties in the fighting: they were captured then deliberately killed despite protesting their status," Pinch said.Technically, Pinch investigated only the death of Brian Raymond Peters, a British-born cameraman who went to Balibo to cover the anticipated Indonesian invasion of East Timor as the island descended toward civil war after the end of Portuguese colonial rule. But she said it was impossible to investigate the death of one of the journalists without investigating that of the others, and that her findings applied e

Rudy Giuliani The former New York mayor had been cruising through the town hall meeting up to that point, answering a wide range of questions about immigration, the economy, and global warming, all by referring to 9/11. But the tone of the event changed abruptly when one audience member, Tracy Klujian of Cedar Rapids, asked the GOP frontrunner, "Can you name one thing that happened on September 12?" Mr. Giuliani seemed taken aback by the question, clearing his throat and drinking from a glass of water as if to buy time before responding. "That's a good question," Mr. Giuliani said. "September 12 happened one day after September 11 -- and we must never forget the lessons of September 11."

Tom Brady likes football and scoring.
Tom Brady threw a team-record six touch downs leading to a victory over the Miami Dolphins. Brady has been an incredible icon in the world of football. An all American, handsome, cordial, California native, Brady has set the world of football on fire. After his impressive win over the Dolphins, reporters swarmed Brady asking him question after question. After one reporter asked, “What inspires you when you’re on the field?” Brady silenced the crowd when he blurted out: “My girlfriend’s vagina!” After a very pregnant pause, the reporter asked, “Is that it?” Brady did try to follow up, but still let most of the reporters down: “Oh God no! Her breasts are fantastic, too.”

It looks like a bill that would help reporters protect their sources is going to pass easily despite opposition by the glorious leader. The bill seems to have a good left/right following, if this bill was stifled that would mean that reporters would have to divulge their sources on stories and would hinder the whistle blowers out there squealing about all the corruption going on. This should put in perspective why it is meeting such resistance from the administration and others who simply want more law to keep us in line and they sure don't need more whistle blowers out there giving us any insight.Liberal Democrats, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have joined conservative Republicans, such as Pence, to support the bill. Engage PR had a post this week about using microblogging as a PR pitch tool. My background is in narrative feature writing, so initially micropitching seems kind of foreign to me.
But I to admit – there’s something there. Kyle Flaherty says he’s been using the Twitter model to craft successful story ideas. The 140 character limit forces you to get your point across quickly and succinctly.
The post mentions a Forbes editor discussing his ‘five-line pitch rule,’ and based on that, Engage PR started constructing pitches that were only five lines total, but each line no longer than 140 characters. The pitch becomes roughly less than 200 words.
Copyblogger’s recent post tends to back this up. He points out that on Nov. 19th, 1863, popular orator Edward Everett gave a two-hour speech no one remembers. Following him, President Abraham Lincoln gave a 269-word speech and sat down. It’s now known as the Gettysburg Address, one of the greatest speeches in American history. Copyblogg

Parties on both sides are speaking out, as Green came out a few days back and showed his displeasure for the situation, and now Chiefs coach Herm Edwards is speaking out and lashing out for reporters questions about the truth being told about the whole mess.
Edwards shared an exchange with KC reporters on Wednesday that included him even taking a local radio sports talk host aside to share his point of view on the whole situation. Edwards was questioned about why the deal was taking so long, as well as about Green’s comments that he being in camp as a lame duck QB was “very awkward.” Edwards spoke with Green on Wednesday and told reporters that he was not going to get into it. &l

“If as many of these illegal immigrants were coming to the U.S. to be journalists as are coming to do construction work, I think you would have a different opinion, but then I wouldn’t know your opinion because I’d be reading a column written by an illegal immigrant who was willing to work for less than half of your salary with no benefits. You, on the other hand, would be in the unemployment line wondering why other Americans didn’t care if their columnists had green cards.”

I was looking through some earlier Engadget blogs on RFID lately and remembered one of them about a company that had invented an RFID tattoo to track cows - and then someone mentions that this could also be used for the armed services. The tattoo is readable up to 4 feet away. Only for cattle now but the company wants to get this to military personel second. It's sort of scary how we're moving into a control society where every move is being tracked. And how many people watch it happen and think that it's inevitable. I know as I've wondered sometimes myself what could be done about it.Something can always be done about it. That's my motto - I'm a Scientologist and I believe in that. As I'm in the subject of human rights I thought I would write a little blurb.I was looking at the news recently and it's amazing how human rights like Freedom of Press get perverted into "Freedom to lie and twist the truth". While journalists howl at the indignity of Helen Thomas being moved about six feet, from the first row to the second row of the new White House press room, there’s been relative silence about the Cuban dictatorship’s expulsion of Western journalists who published stories unflattering to the communist leadership. Today’s Investor’s Business Daily says the expulsion of the Chicago Tribune’s Gary Marx, the BBC’s Stephen Gibbs and Mexico’s El Universal reporter Cesar Gonzalez-Calero “was a minor story, but shouldn’t be.” With these three paying a penalty for reporting the uncomfortable truths about Castro’s dying dictatorship, IBD correctly asks “why the remaining correspondents inside Cuba aren’t red-faced about not being thrown out.” Here’s an excerpt from their Wednesday editorial, the complete version of which can be found at www.IBDEditorials.com: Marx (Gary, that is) wrote of the disillusionment of Cuba's youth with communism, fakery at Castro's
