It's official-CNN news reporter Richard Quest was arrested at 3:40 a.m. on Friday in New York's Central Park for possession of a controlled substance and loitering. His drug of choice? "I've got some meth in my pocket," he told the arresting officers. British by birth, Quest is the host of "Quest" and the "CNN Business Traveler." He became wildly popular for his unique delivery style and clownish antics on camera. Judge Anthony Ferrara gave him a walk after stern instructions for counseling and therapy for six months. Here's an example of his high energy-I mean tweaked-reporting style:CNN is, not surprisingly, mum on the subject of Richard Quest's drug habits. I, however, will believe Charmayne Brown, the reporter, who said that her attackers had used racial epithets towards her and her cameraman. I'll also point out that there was another news crew there whose employees on the scene happened to be white and they weren't attacked. Was part of it the fact that the reporter was standing alone while her cameraman was putting the camera away? Probably.Honestly, I just don't know if going back and forth about whether it was r

OFF TOPIC: Charmayne Brown, black reporter, attacked on camera by white family yelling racial slurs in South Carolina
This posting is off topic for my blog but sometimes I come across extraordinary non-environmental stories that are worth blogging about. What is most disturbing, frustrating and true to the meaning of the word ignorant is that most people do not know they live in ignorance. They are prisoners of social constructs. When people discriminate or behave racist they are mimicking what was taught to them, which represents the struggle to repress minorities like blacks or homosexuals. It is a complex scam and a disease. People really do reap what they sow and these people that attacked this woman ooze with ignorance and probably live a marginal existence. From The Huffington Post:Three people upset that a news crew was reporting on the arrest of a relative attacked the television reporter and yell

But Peev reminds Carlson that off-the-record agreements are made before the tape recorder rolls, noting rather haughty, "Are you really that acquiescent in the United States?" Carlson responds: "Since journalistic standards in Great Britain are so much dramatically lower than they are here, it's a little much being lectured on journalistic ethics by a reporter from The Scotsman." “Really!” Peev replies. Why?  Because this week (or really, this decade) it’s too easy to bash on PR people. And also because reporters and bloggers are not infallible.  But they have the power. Thus, it’s always easier to bash a PR pro than it is to take a reporter to task. Reporter ‘told man to kill himself’
From The TimesOctober 2, 2007Reporter ‘told man to kill himself’Ashling O’Connor in Bombay A television journalist was charged yesterday with abetting suicide after he allegedly persuaded a depressed businessman to kill himself and his family live on camera. Officers in the northern state of Punjab intervened in time to stop Tilak Raj and his three daughters drinking poison on Sunday. But the case has highlighted the lengths an increasingly competitive Indian media will go to get a story. The journalist, identified only as Vipin, had convinced the man that a choreographed suicide attempt was the best way to highlight his troubles after he lost a land dispute in court. It is the latest in a series of incidents involving TV journalists distorting or fabricating the news amid a fierce battle for ratings. Last week a TV reporter in Delhi was charged with inciting riots after his exposé of a prostitution racket supposedly run by a mathematics teacher turned out to be a set-up. Media

Mike Gravel Calls Americans Fat and Stupid - Reporter Can’t Believe It
I’m writing late tonight, and this may suck, but hey, what do you expect from a site with a bunch of badly drawn stick figures for a logo? Least I have a logo. That’s right. Don’t be jealous. Everyone’s going to be blogging about Bush’s speech tonight and it’s either going to be blah blah blah he’s holding the country hostage or blah blah blah I want to have George Bush’s babies so instead I’m going to focus on something different. I was getting ready to turn the news off but I flipped over to CNN for a second to see if anyone was talking about the speech. Earlier, I saw Rudy Giuliani looking like some sort of foul creature that just pulled it’s way out of mist covered rot ridden marsh and switched over to MSNBC because I was afraid staring at him for too long would prematurely age me or cause my ears to fall off or something. When I flipped back over I saw a clip of Mike Gravel giving an interview or some such thing an

School Apologizes After Banning Reporter from Game
A Clark County School is apologizing to the local newspaper Monday after banning one of its reporters at the Homecoming game. The Winchester Sun says the Principal at George Roger's Clark High School would not allow a reporter in the press box because he didn't like an article the newspaper ran that day. That story was about four white students, at George Roger's Clark, who gave a black student a racially charged note, according to Ronda Hopewell, the mother of the student who received the note. The note depicts a white person whipping a black person, it also shows a noose and includes racial statements like "the south will rise again." The banned journalist says reporting the news is their job and the action Principal Gordon Parido took was shocking. "I get a phone call saying, you're banned from the press box tonight and I said you're kidding right? He said no Mr. Parido doesn't want you to be in the press box," [sports editor Keith] Taylor explained."I said why? and I was told w

China Law Reporter Looking for Articles
Qiang Bjornbak, editor of the ABA’s China Law Reporter, is soliciting articles on two timely topics. 1. China’s much anticipated anti-monopoly law: its major features and potential for influence upon unfair competition behaviors, such as price fixing. 2. Product safety issues. Ideally, CLR is looking for two articles on this subject — “one from a lawyer from the Chinese perspective and one from a non-China-based lawyer taking the importer’s perspective. Lots of topic possibilities with this one. For further information, contributors should contact Qiang directly with their proposal. Read Original Post Here

Rudy Giuliani's Press Secretary has a reporter arrested (video)
From what I saw all the reporter did was ask some questions. He wasnt excessively confrontational or even rude. The press secreatry had him arrested; I wonder on what charges? I think his shirt is just a bit browner than it looks. After watching the video several times I heard the reporter say he was affiliated with Alex Jones and then later asked if Giuliani knew about the 9-11 attack ahead of time. So he is a conspiracy type but hey they still have rights too. ~RJH

Reporter Killed for Investigative Reporting He was Doing on a Muslim Bakery
Chauncey Bailey was shot and killed by Devaughdre Broussard, who confessed and called himself a good soldier. So what was Devaughdre Broussard so mad about that he decided to kill Bailey? Bailey was doing some investigative reporting into an establishment called the Black Muslim Bakery. So this Muslim decided he needed to use violence against someone who might have found something that wasn’t on the level. He was taken into custody Friday along with six other people in an early morning police raid on the bakery and affiliated buildings as a result of a two-month police investigation. Broussard had been staying at one of the raided houses on 59th Street, its rear yard connecting to the bakery property. At the house, police recovered the shotgun they believe was used to kill Bailey, the 57-year-old editor of the Oakland Postnewspaper. One of those arrested in the raid was Yusuf Bey IV, son of the bakery’s founder, the late Black Muslim leader Yusuf Bey. Bey IV was booked S
