With the iPhone 2.0 beta firmware leaked, more is being learned about its overall performance. One interesting detail found recently pertains specifically to the new version of Mobile Safari included with the download. Apple has dramatically boosted it's performance with executing JavaScript. According to a test run using Celtic Kane’s benchmarks, the iPhone's previous 1.x firmware's version of Safari clocked in at around 30 times slower than 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro, with iPhone-generated test times in excess of 9000 ms on average. However, the Safari included with v2.0 beta clocks in at just over 6000 ms on the same test, nearly 3000 ms faster than before. Who knew VA was an open primary state? (Probably everybody but me.) For some reason, I've always assumed that I had to be registered as a member of one of the major parties to vote in that party's primary in Virginia. Au contraire. When Mozilla released Firefox 2.0.0.10 last Monday, the release notes made it out to be a relatively minor update correcting, as usual, a small number of security issues. As it turned out, however, the release contained a nasty surprise for developers whose sites relied on Canvas.drawImage, a JavaScript feature of recent browsers that lets developers display images with effects like rotation and drop shadows. Firefox 2.0.0.10 completely broke this feature, causing images to disappear from sites that relied upon it. JavaScript effects libraries like instant.js suddenly stopped working, and developers had no way to fix the problem, because, as far as Firefox was concerned, everything was working perfectly. Terra Soft Solutions, the developer of Yellow Dog Linux, has teamed up with Circle-S Studios to create Y-Film, a suite of visual effects management and productivity tools coupled with DNA Research's 3Delight RenderMan compliant rendering engine and Terra Soft's Y-HPC cluster construction suite. Terra Soft will display the alpha version of its new product Tuesday at the Supercomputing Expo in Reno, Nev. However, the product will not ship until the second quarter of 2008, according to Kai Staats, CEO of Terra Soft Solutions.

Following Audi's self imposed schedule of having only one RS model on the market at a time, deliveries of the brand new 573hp twin-turbo V10 RS 6 Avant are getting underway for 2008 as the B7 RS 4 ends its production.
