With the iPhone 2.0 beta firmware leaked, more is being learned about its overall performance. One interesting detail found recently pertains specifically to the new version of Mobile Safari included with the download. Apple has dramatically boosted it's performance with executing JavaScript. According to a test run using Celtic Kane’s benchmarks, the iPhone's previous 1.x firmware's version of Safari clocked in at around 30 times slower than 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro, with iPhone-generated test times in excess of 9000 ms on average. However, the Safari included with v2.0 beta clocks in at just over 6000 ms on the same test, nearly 3000 ms faster than before. Who knew VA was an open primary state? (Probably everybody but me.) For some reason, I've always assumed that I had to be registered as a member of one of the major parties to vote in that party's primary in Virginia. Au contraire. So as far as I can tell, this means that registering for a particular party in VA constitutes giving up freedom to vote in the primary of my choice (i.e., whichever contest has me more concerned about the outcome), with no advantage to balance that loss. Therefore, I intend to change my registration to "independent" right away.
