XL Recordings are to release three 12" vinyls each containing three tracks from Thom remixed by a variety of people. The vinyls are released on January 21, 28 and February 4 2008. It has been a great year for the independent Brooklyn based label Daptone Records. With excellent releases from The Budos Band and Sharon Jones this year, Daptone has not only continued to build on their success, but has also crossed over to new audiences this year with the success of their artists. And now a great sampler to put the icing on the cake for their 2007 campaign. The sampler is a two disc affair and is the 19th installment in the Scion Sampler Series. (Scion has previously done remixed discs for Vice Records and Strictly Rhythm) It is out on the Scion Audio Visual Record label and takes some really great Daptone tunes and gives them the remix treatment on the first disc. An album that I had no energy to listen to earlier this year was the latest from sisters Tegan And Sara. But it turned out to have some really great songs on it, one of those is the tune, Back In Your Head. Not only is the song incredibly catchy but I cannot get it out of my head after a listen for a full day usually. Maybe it is just the background keyboards that ingrain themselves into “my head” or possibly the great vocals but it is just one of those songs for me. So it is pretty great that the song has gotten both a remix and a great cover in the past week, both of which we will share today. Moby will release a remixed version of his 2006 greatest hits collection "Go: The Very Best Of Moby" in the U.K. on March 5. Titled "Go: The Very Best Of Moby Remixed," the album features remixes and reinterpretations from the likes of Olav Basovski, Rollo & Sister Bliss, Trentemoller, Sandy Rivera, Vitalic, Steve Angello, and Armand van Helden. As a soundtrack, Marie Antoinette’s main responsibility is to reflect the film’s concept (Antoinette as 80's party girl), and it’s admirably executed—for the most part. Some of the more atmospheric of the recognizable New Wave/Post-Punk tracks make appearances like New Order's “Ceremony,” Adam and the Ants’, “King of the Wind Frontier”, as well as modern cuts by the Strokes and Radio Dept. aspiring to a similar feel. And, yes, Coppola still has Kevin Shields on speed dial: he offers up spacey remixes of Bow Wow Wow hits “I Want Candy” and “Fools Rush In.” Coppola even covers period music, though it’s clear she’s not concerned with being overly faithful to the period. Former Prime Minister of Malaysia (Tun Dr Mahathir) is driving the son-in-law of current Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi), Khairy Jamaluddin, to the wall recently.
