Karela or commonly known as bitter gourd contains a polypeptide that is very similar to bovine insulin. This polypeptide is known as Gurmarin, (a polypeptide). This polypeptide has been found in experimental studies to attain a supportive sugar adaptable consequence by suppressing the neural retort to sweet taste stimuli. Karela or the bitter gourd fruit is often used in the Indian subcontinent as
The term diabetes is derived from the Greek word diabaínein that literally means "passing through," or "siphon", a reference to one of diabetes' major symptoms—excessive urine production.Because insulin is the principal hormone that regulates uptake of glucose into most cells from the blood (primarily muscle and fat cells, but not central nervous system cells), deficiency of insulin or the inse
Scientists have unveiled a functional link between production of new neurons and the effectiveness of antidepressants in an animal model. The study provides insight into a mechanism that might underlie a poor response to antidepressive medications for anxiety or depression. "Depression is a significant public health problem due to both its high prevalence and its devastating impact on individuals
If family or friends are not available, state probate courts appoint guardians — also called conservators and fiduciaries in some states — to protect incapacitated seniors and dependant adults from self-neglect, predators and scam artists. But in some cases, society’s most vulnerable adults are left in the hands of unscrupulous or incompetent guardians, and until recently, states were not lo
WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration, dismissing the recommendations of its top experts, rejected regulating the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming Friday, saying it would cripple the U.S. economy.
In a 588-page federal notice, the Environmental Protection Agency made no finding on whether global warming poses a threat to people's health or welfare, reversing an earlier conclusion at
It may be a few years too late, but federal regulators are finalizing some new rules for mortgage lenders that would largely eliminate some of the loopholes with qualifying borrowers for adjustable rate mortgages as well as make it easier for them to refi into loans less onerous. From an L.A. Times story:On Monday, the Federal Reserve is expected to require lenders to document borrowers' incomes
I hate to say I told you so, but I did. Regulators are piling on the oil industry, in the wake of a public backlash after oil crossed $120, and fears of $150 to $200 oil percolated through the media into the mainstream. CW is that oil is upwardly mobile regardless of the situation on the ground.
The Federal Trade Commission last week said it would delve into the workings of the oil industry,

If the Internet is a highway, then the companies responsible for maintaining the roads are increasingly at odds with the ones producing a lot of the traffic. Comcast throttling BitTorrent traffic as a way to protect network integrity (or so it says) is one example. Another can be found in the arguments of a British ISP that’s seeking to get the BBC to pay for network upgrades, claiming the broadcaster’s iPlayer is hogging too much bandwidth. The request for funding to build more robust networks made by Simon Gunter, chief of strategy at ISP Tiscali, is akin to asking car companies to pay a tax for building more roads. It’s one way to address the issue, but there are other options, among them better traffic management, which would decrease the distance cars need to travel. It’s an ev
Electrical generators must have some form of voltage regulation. Without it, the generator will either run as a motor or overload itself and burn up. There are as many systems available as there are regulator designers and the schemes they can think up. That being said, there are a few basic systems [...]
As a result of the overwhelming response that I got to my last blog post, Do we need to teach our kids Internet lifeskills?, I decided to do blog on the topic again.
This post deals more with teens and their parents in regards to Internet regulation.
I came across an article recently that states that parents are becoming less trusting of the Internet. 59% of parents say the internet has been a good thing for their children, down from 67% in 2004, whereas those who say it has had no effect of have no opinion on the matter has gone up five point, from 25% to 30%.
From these you can see that many parents (68%) regulate the Internet sites that they allow their children to visit. 65% of parents say that they check to see what websites their teenagers visit. And two thirds of the parents surveyed say that they have some sort of rules governing their teen's media usage.
I'll keep an eye out for more info related to the subject and get back to you when I find it.

European Union justice ministers met today in order to discuss the regulation of sales of violent video games to minors. Europeans were riled up last year when a German gunman shot several people before taking his life at a secondary school. A European Union Commissioner, taking advantage of the shootings last year, has called for stricter regulations in the video game industry. A motion introduced last month calls for legislators to “put in place all necessary measures to ban the sale of particularly violent and cruel video games.”
Game ratings are overseen by the Pan European Game Information. The EU has a similar video game ratings system to the United States. As in the US, video game ratings are voluntary. They use a combination of content descriptions for bad language, drug use, violence, etc. and an age based rating scale.
The European Commission is planning to introduce a list of common sanctions against retailers selling violent video games to children

In a weird display of political correctness, the Toronto Blue Jays have been mandated to revise a commercial. Read more below from the Washington Post...'The Blue Jays have been forced to revise a television commercial featuring DH Frank Thomas after the ad drew objections from the Television Bureau of Canada, a regulatory body for private broadcasters.A 30-second spot that shows the 6-foot-5, 275-pound Thomas taking part in a pillow fight with two young boys was edited to remove a scene where Thomas knocks one of the boys off a bed and onto the floor. Thomas leaves the room with a smile on his face as the youngster gets to his feet and says, "Wow."Laurel Lindsay, vice president of marketing for the Blue Jays, said Thomas and the child still exchange pillow blows in the edited version but the child is not knocked to the floor. Instead, he pops into the air when struck. The decision to revise the ad was first reported by the Toronto Globe and Mail. Lindsay called the controversy over th
McCain on Regulating Internet Politics: 'I'd be very reluctant'Excerpt:"This morning, Senator McCain of Arizona held his first blogger conference call of the 2008 race. Have you noticed a change in your internet lately? Programs not working? Web sites that you used to visit blocked? On T-Mobile? Well you are not in luck. T-Mobile has changed the way their internet plans are used so they are not in their words "misused" in the future. Ok that is not their word but it is obvious as it is stated in this picture that a user on HowardForums posted:
