A Kimkins member has asked for a refund on the Kimkins message boards, after being ignored by Heidi Diaz in email requests. Note: Singinglass, an admin, claims the member never tried to contact Heidi, so either Singinglass reads Heidi's emails (and as culpable than we thought!) or she believes a known liar. Neither look good for her.The member said (quoted from multiple posts - you can tell she's
The other day, my officemate was telling me about the refund by Manila Water (former Nawasa). I was delightfully surprised. This is some sadness. Coolio was popped for driving on a suspended license in Los Angeles last night. He was originally cited for the same offense in San Bernadino in 2001, so apparently he never got his braids down to the DMV.
Coolio was tooling around in a 96 Hummer. He had just been refused entrance to a club called One Sunset. And get this. He tried to get his $30 back from the parking val

It’s been two years since Niel Bratteli bought a roundtrip plane ticket from Dallas to Boston for his son. The airline, ATA, stopped flying from Boston to Dallas and his online travel agency, Travelocity, promised Bratteli a refund. But countless calls and e-mails later, there’s no sign of the money. I am enclosing a copy of the latest email I sent to McDonalds. I'm having a problem getting them to refund an overcharge. The amount is not significant, it's the principal, but it's become even more of a moral situation since they refuse to address the issue properly. I was overcharged by 60% for a chicken sandwich. The Lisle, IL McDonalds where I purchased the sandwich will not answer the phone. I've contacted the McDonalds corporation through their website only to be told they are forwarding the complaint to the franchisee, who took 12 days to contact me and still hasn't refunded the difference. Yesterday a woman called and left a message on my answering machine, and basically gave me the 'dog ate my homework' excuse by saying she was on vacation, as if nobody else at the location can re
Where's my stimulus payment (tax rebate)?
The IRS recently posted a new interactive worksheet on its Web site, "Where's My Stimulus Payment?" It's intended to help taxpayers determine the status of their stimulus payment: how much it is, when it should arrive, and how it will be delivered. You only need three pieces of information to use it: the Social Security number of the first person listed

There are many circumstances in which a person may forget to claim the credit of tax deducted at source. This is specially true of the cases where a person is either not supposed to file return of income as most of income is exempt , but some kind of TDS has been made or a person is ignorant about claiming refund of TDS/TCS . In all such cases ,it is possible to claim refund by filing condonation petition u/s 119(2)(b) of the I T Act even if such claim was not made in last six years. The IRS estimates 1.3 million taxpayers who neglected to file a 2004 return are eligible for refunds, but that they had better act soon. The deadline for claiming a refund for that tax year is April 15 this year, and you must file a return to get a refund. There is no penalty for filing a late return if you have a refund coming to you, the IRS said. You'd think that taxpayers who face big tax bills are the ones who don't file returns, but that's not always the case. For instance, workers whose incomes fall below the filing threshold may decide to not file, said Michelle Lamishaw, an IRS spokeswoman."Maybe (the refund) didn't seem like a lot of money to them, or it seemed like too much bother to file, or they didn't have the right paperwork. As I mentioned in my last post, Surprise in our Bank Account, we received a pretty large tax return this year. It's great to see our bank account take a nice jump but what I'm going to tell you now is why a large tax refund is bad. It's an interest-free loan to the governmentWhen you get back a large refund it means the government was able to hold on to your money over the past year to do with as they wanted. And what do you get in return fro allowing them to hold your money? You get your money back. That's it. It was a free loan. Know what happens if you owe the government money for a year? Penalties and interest tacked onto what you owe. Even a low-interest savings account gives you something back. So why loan your money out for nothing?!?InflationAs defined by the Bureau of Labo

The last month of my previous contract with Sprint (back in October) I accidentally paid the bill twice. Who does that? Me. I sent a check at the beginning of the month and then paid by phone later in the month. So you think they'd just credit my new account or send me a refund check? Nope they just continued to send me bills for -$28.60 every month. I called to ask them to send a refund check and they refused. "Thats not our policy, you have to go to a Sprint store." Once I was driving and I saw a store that clearly said Sprint. I went in to ask for my refund, but they were not an official Sprint store so they weren't authorized to give it to me. I eventually wrote it off. After they sent me an extra $75 in my rebate check I figured we were even. Then last week, out of nowhere

I filed my Australian tax returns in January when I was back home on holidays and will soon be doing my US taxes. I cannot explain to you the sheer joy of doing 2 tax returns (note the sarcastic tone)! Having to collate paperwork, get employer/investment documentation, health expenses across two countries is not something I look forward to. All I can recommend is to get a good accountant like I did. Anyway the good news from doing the tax returns is that I should be getting tax refunds from both my filings. This got me thinking about what I will do with the tax refunds. So based on personal experience and searching the web, here are ten ideas1. Retire your debts. Put your refund towards the balance on high-interest credit cards or other outstanding loans2. Start an emergency savings accoun
At long last we got our Income Tax Refund yesterday. I was excited to check my saving account to see how much tax refund I got this year but I only got 1200 pesos. I was hoping to get like 6K because I am planning to buy a desktop computer for me and my brother. My brother kept bugging me to buy a new computer for his review and computer games as well. Hehe! While mine, I want to install Linux and Windows 2003 so that I could practice then I could get my certifications. As taxpayer, I really don’t know the computation of refunds and what the excemption are. All I know is the tax refund is the money that is overpaid to our government. Anyway it’s better to get a refund rather than nothing.
If you believe that you have over paid your taxes, you have a different kind of IRS Problem. It is possible to get money back from the IRS if you follow the correct procedure and have patience. (...)

Seasoned Internet users are certainly aware of the “cheque partial refund scam”, that has long plagued sites like eBay.
Just to run by the basics:
Someone “buys something”
They “accidently send a cheque for too much”
The ask for a refund for the difference
Lo and behold, the original scam has now migrated to property, according to US Marketing Blog, MarketersStudio.
In the Property version of the scam, a potential tenant is being posted into the country, and is arranging furniture as well as rental. Sure enough, a cheque for the first month’s rent, the deposit, and, bizarrely the furniture turns up, with a request that the letting agency / landlord “pay for the furniture.”
By the time they realise the funds haven’t cleared, and investigate the furniture company, the “furniture company” turns out to have been a front for the scammer.
To date, the scams have been supposedly about British Doctors wanting to rent f
Seagate Technology, the world's largest hard-drive maker, is offering customers a five percent refund on drives bought during the last six years following a lawsuit over the definition of a "gigabyte". As an alternative, customers can choose to receive free backup software.Four people sued the company, saying they expected its drives to offer greater capacity than that actually provided. Seagate manufactures its drives based on powers of ten, with 1KB equalling 1,000 bytes. The claimants argued that 1KB of storage should compromise 1,024 bytes. On a 1GB drive, this would make the difference between one billion bytes of storage, and 1,073,741,824 bytes. Other manufacturers, such as Samsung and Hitachi, also measure hard-drive capacity with 1KB equalling 1,000 bytes, whereas all operating systems are based on 1KB equalling 1,024 bytes.Because the lawsuit is a "class action", the settlement is available to all Seagate customers.Seagate denies any fault, but it has offered to pay the refun

All scam artists are scum but this one is really low. Some scams take advantage of greedy people or people who think they are looking to rip someone else off. This scam targets senior citizens, the sad part about this scam is the victims get warned before they get ripped off but they ignore the warning! Guess they may fall into the greedy category after all but I still think this one is low. Here is how it works:
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), someone approaches an elderly citizen and asks if they have filed to get the tax back on their Social Security benefits. They tell the victim (the Social Security beneficiary) to get a 1099 from Social Security so that they can file the income tax refund for the beneficiary. The beneficiary requests the last 3 years 1099 statements showing their Social Security Benefit. The SSA has no choice except to give them the information because it gives them the total payments they have received. (here comes the warning
It’s all coming back to me, baby. After however long, I almost forgot that I had an open ticket with American Express’ Return Protection Program (or whatever you get when you call this number 800-297-8019). I just called yesterday afternoon and coincidence of coincidences they just approved the claim and my account should be credited with $200 in the next day or so! (that’s $100 for each of 2 phones). So between that and the $100 store credit from Apple, my phones cost only $400 like the rest o’ you late adopters. :)
Nice! Already used my $200 credit from Apple to buy me a Leopard family pack. Sure it got here a day late, but a quick SuperDuper and update later and Leopard’s the word. I know all the cool kids say install clean, but dammit, I just did all my app migration onto this iMac and I’m not keen to do it again. So upgrade it was and only a couple minor hiccups along the way. I’ll have some more thoughts on Leopard soon.

Bob and Ricki Husick, who live north of Pittsburgh, has said that anyone who will buy their home will get a full refund of the price when they die. With the current status of the real estate market it has been hard for the couple to sell their home. In fact, they have been trying for over a year now.
Some of the owners have tried other means to sell their homes, such as lowering prices and offering buyers free trips. Well, the Husicks have gone a step further and came up with their own incentive to help sell their home. The house was built in 1993 and they are currently asking for just under $400,000 for the 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home. So, whoever buys the house will get this money back when the couple dies!
But that is not the only offer that the Husicks have for the buyer. They also said that if the buyer would care for them when they get to old to do so themselves, they would also get their retirement home in Arizona upon their death. Husick said, “Why not go for t

USA Today sat down with Steve Jobs to talk to him about the price drop of the iPhone. One of the first things that he was asked was, "What do you say to customers who just bought a new iPhone for $599? Sorry?" His response was "That’s technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well that’s what happens in technology." So all those hoping Jobs would give in and offer a refund have their confirmation that it’s not going to happen. But Jobs is now willing to give a $100 Apple Store credit. Over at The Unofficial Apple Weblog, they posted an article titled "Apple Screwed you: So now what?" which offers suggestions on how to handle the situation. Among the suggestions are: Returns - if you bought it within 14 days, you can either return the item or you can request a credit for the difference. Call AT&T - you may get lucky with a rep who’ll offer you some amount of credit on your line.

I've done this a couple of times, and I know others would be willing to if they knew. We've all gone to see a movie and had to sit next to a bunch of young kids who seem like the last thing they want to do is see a movie, but rather talk on their phones and generally cause a nuisance. Now if you're like me, this drives you absolutely up the wall! And it's not necessarily limited to kids, but anyone really. I've sat next to people who constantly check their blackberries, and in the dark theatre the bright screen is incredibly distracting. I'm sorry, but when I go see a movie I want to be "IN" the movie and distractions "from outside the movie" pull you out of that entirely.Well, if you've had it up to HERE (right now I'm pointing at my neck with all four fingers), you can leave during the first 30 minutes of the show and ask for a credit or get your money back entirely. Alternatively, you could go out and ask to speak

Those are the words that every taxpayer would love to hear, yes, you are receiving an Income Tax Refund. For many individual taxpayers those refunds can be obtained through Earned Income credit, a real refund of overpayment of tax, or through an overpayment from previous years. Once you determine you are receiving a refund, there are several options for actually putting that money in the taxpayers hands. Standard paper filing, electronic filing with direct deposit, rapid refunds, and refund anticipation loans are the options we have the choice of exercising, and for many refund anticipating individuals, the rapid refund or the refund anticipation loan is the refund of choice. With the growth of the internet, the Internal Revenue Service has been fairly quick to react to the benefit of elect
No need to dread tax time. Instead make it your business to understand tax laws and take as many deductions as you can. "At the end of the day it's not how much money you make, it's how much you keep," says Deborah Owens, author of Nickel & Dime Your Way to Wealth (Unlimited Publishing). Consider these eight deductions and strategies that can lower taxable income and raise your refund. MAKE WELLNESS PAY. Taking good care of yourself may help lower your tax liability, says Julie Miller, spokesperson for professional tax software, If your yearly health and medical expenses exceed 7 1/2 percent of your adjusted gross income (AGI), you may deduct the amount that exceeds that threshold. For example, say your AGI was $20,000: 7 1/2 percent is $1,500. So if you paid out $1,845 in unreimbursed
According to Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Tribune, Chargers season ticket holder has filed a class-action suit against the team in San Diego County Superior Court, accusing it of unjust enrichment for not automatically giving refunds to those who bought tickets to a second playoff game that was never played. Last season, Charger fans who were willing to buy 2007 season tickets were given the option of purchasing tickets for January 2007 playofff tickets.
The class-action suit states that as part of the sale, they were required to purchase tickets for both prospective playoff games. However, after the Chargers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, the team kept the funds for the second game. The plaintiff in this lawsuit, Kells Christian, was apparently informed by the team that he would receive a refund provided he put it in writing and also provided a copy of his current state drivers license. In addition, the Chargers informed Mr. Christian th

The New York Court of Appeals on Thursday ruled tobacco companies who are part of the 1998 agreement that settled tobacco litigation with most states can go to arbitration to try to reduce their settlement payments. The $246 billion Master Settlement Agreement required tobacco companies to make annual payments to the states and also placed restrictions on how cigarettes are marketed but, if the tobacco companies that signed the agreement lose market share because of those restrictions, they...

Human Rights Commissioner Kumiki Gibson is investigating some big name tax preparation companies and banks in an effort to find out if they are engaging in illegal discrimination against Blacks and Latinos. At issue are Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs), money advanced to taxpayers based on an anticipated tax refund. These loans get a big push in minority neighborhoods. Consumers are charged anywhere from 85% to 500% in interest. A recent study by a Manhattan think-tank revealed that the loans drained about $324 million from the poorest neighborhoods from 2002 through 2005.It has been argued that there is no need for anyone to have an RAL because the IRS can wire funds to taxpayers within 2 weeks of getting a tax return. So, based on the interest rates, etc. it is completely unnecessary to see these types of loans being heavily pushed to low-income consumers.RALs have never been investigated as a civil rights issue, until now. The Human Rights Commission chose to investigate these loans,
This is one problem that most tax-payers in the country may have faced at some point in their lives. The income tax department directly deducts your tax at source, but when it comes to refunds, it sends you on a wild goose chase. An assessee has now shown a way around the problem through the use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Tushar Dalvi used RTI and managed to get his refund, which was pending for five years, in a week's time.Dalvi, an NRI, who settled in Santa Cruz a few years ago, has a non-resident ordinary account from which the bank was deducting tax at source (TDS) on the interest accumulated on his deposits. Although he had filed returns and applied for a refund with the central international taxation department from 2002 onwards, he had not got a single reply from the I-T department."I was stone-walled for quite sometime and then I tried to use the services of a chartered accountant (CA). But he said he would charge me Rs 50,000 as service charge,"said 60-year-old Dal

A federal Income Tax Refund occurs if the tax you owe is less than the sum of the total amount of refundable tax credits claimed and the total amount of withholding paid. For many individual taxpayers those federal tax refunds can be obtained through Earned Income credit, a real refund of overpayment of tax, or through an overpayment from previous years. Some people really believe that getting a large income tax refund is not the greatest thing. People use their IRS tax refund as a "simple savings plan" where they are surprised to get money back each year. Always remember that it is still better to get an IRS tax refund than to owe money to the government. "You're getting an income tax refund"! Those are the words that every taxpayer would love to hear. Once you determine you're receiving a tax refund, there are several options for actually putting that money in the taxpayer's hands. Standard paper filing, electronic filing with direct deposit, rapid refunds, and refund anticipation
I actually stumbled upon this accidentally on YouTube tonight and it was on the front page. Evidently TaxCut software is having a video contest called “Me and My Super Sweet Refund Video Contest” and the example video is the one you see above. It’s a hilarious homemade video about what a Candy Addict would do with a “Super Sweet Refund”. Another funny candy video I found too - a funny Tic Tac video that makes me wish I knew French.

At tax time, most Americans find themselves expecting a refund. That's no surprise, as most people have too much money withheld from their paychecks. It would be a simple matter to adjust the withholding so that the amount of money withheld is roughly equal to the amount of tax owed, but most people are content to get a refund check every spring.Until relatively recently, when a taxpayer had a refund coming, he or she had to wait two months or so while the refund was processed and the check mailed. In recent years, however, major tax preparers have come up with a profitable alternative that keeps the taxpayer from having to wait so long – the Rapid Tax Refund. The rapid refund, also known as a refund anticipation loan, is a loan given by the tax preparing company that is backed by the ref

So, you were pleasantly surprised to learn that you are getting a refund on your taxes. Congratulations! The reason the IRS requires all of this information is purely for security purposes, to wit, the agency wants to make sure it is giving access only to the tax
Want your refund faster? Have it deposited directly into your bank account. More taxpayers are choosing direct deposit as the way to receive their federal tax refunds.
