NFL Weekly Review - Redskins, Giants and Cowboys
This weekend brought a lot of action to sports fans. For those weird guys who actually like gossip and scandals, there was plenty to talk about these days: not only because of the infamous Mitchell Report listing several big names at the MLB, but also NFL had some paparazzi moments. So, this was a complete weekend: surprising gossip and surprising NFL scores.  The Eagles-Cowboys game had some unexpected results: it wasn't really a good and exciting game (it threw some poor scores), but nobody expected Philadelphia to beat the Cowboys at home. The game looked kinda dull, although Brian Westbrook did a great job running against the clock to secure Philly's victory. Dallas, on the other side, showed a really deficient performance, with just 240 yards, the fewest of the entire NFL season, and that game costed them the end of their winning streak. Everything finished with just a 10-6 result.  During that game it was out that the famous pop singer Jessica Simpson was there showing some

Are the Redskins ready to move on?
Thursday night will be the time when the Washington Redskins prove they’re ready to move on and give their best. Sean Taylor’s death was really hard on them (and it was obvious that it would affect them during last Sunday’s game), not only because they lost a friend, but because he was actually a good player and gave a lot to the team. Will they be ready to play against the Chicago Bears tonight? If you look at the circumstances in a cold, harsh way, you will see that losing Sean Taylor can be considered a great distraction for the team when they go out and play. Taylor’s Memorial Service was just a few days ago, and the shock is barely starting to fade away. This is something they’re going to have in mind for a while, and it could affect their performance when they face the Bears.  Right now none of those teams could be considered as a smashing winner. The NFL Standings place them at the bottom of their Division (like the Bears) or just about to drop there (Redskins).

Redskins mourn as investigation begins in shooting death of Taylor
Miami-Dade police have launched a wide-ranging homicide investigation into the death of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, who died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami early yesterday morning after being shot in the upper thigh while confronting intruders in his home.Police said they were trying to determine whether a burglary at Taylor's house just over a week ago was related to what they described as a possible home invasion Monday, and whether Taylor was targeted by the shooter or was a random target."We're going to look at everything," Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.Taylor, 24, died at 3:30 a.m. after undergoing seven hours of surgery Monday. Redskins Safety Sean Taylor dies after shooting
Yesterday we were all hit by the news of NFL safety Sean Taylor being shot at his home. After many hours of complicated emergency surgery and all of us being in shock by the situation, Tuesday morning comes with the confirmation that Sean Taylor just passed away.    The situation turned into a real tragedy when one of the bullets shot by the intruder reached Taylor’s femoral artery, causing him to lose too much blood. Surgery could not repair the entire damage, but there were some hope of him giving good signs of surviving. However, it was confirmed that Sean Taylor died around 5 in the morning at Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Of course this was a major shock at the NFL. All players (especially the Washington Redskins team) are filled with grief. Even people like RB Clinton Portis feel sorry because Sean Taylor was at home on Monday because of a knee injury that kept him out of the field. Sharpstein, speaking from the hospital, said Taylor is “nonresponsive and unconscious” and the doctors are “worried about a possible brain injury or death.” Sharpstein, who has been with Taylor’s family at the hospital much of the day, said that there are major worries that Taylor may have lost oxygen to the brain, and that no other procedures are planned for right now. “They’re waiting to see if he comes to,” Sharpstein said. He was shot in the groin/thigh area near the femoral artery and lost copious amounts of blood. The intruders then retreated and Sean was airlifted to the trauma center and endured several hours of surgery, Sharpstein said. Hail to the Redskins!
Monday Night Football brought some surprise for many of the NFL Football fans watching (and especially the ones who were betting favorites). While almost everyone thought the Eagles were going to win so easily, the Washington Redskins turned it upside down and ended up with a 20-12 victory. We are talking about a very impressive result, especially considering that Philadelphia had home field advantage last night. Redskins QB Jason Campbell performed a great TD pass to Chris Cooley, one that will definitely be remembered. Another good thing, it seems that Campbell is aware of what he did wrong during the game and it could make us expect harder work, and better games. We could also notice how linebacker London Fletcher (who had 6 tackles) has come to make Washington’s defense stronger. This guy seems to have the rest of the guys pumped up and inspired. It was a wise choice to bring him from Buffalo. It’s obvious that the Redskins have worked a lot on third down and the Eagles ha

      Hail to the Redskins
Tonight kicks off the 2007 NFL season, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I've been a huge fan my entire life. In fact, one of my earliest memories is sitting on the couch next to my dad watching a game.In honor of tonight I'd like to make my Super Bowl picks. Anyone who has ever been around Redskins Nation knows two things: we have the best fans in all of sports, and we always pick the Redskins to win the Super Bowl. Generally speaking, they've sucked for about 15 years, so usually it's a joke when we pick them. However, last year they were coming off a solid playoff season, and I legitimately picked them. But, they let us all down, going back to their stinky ways with a 5-11 record. As a joke, like most seasons, I will pick the Redskins to win the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. But for "I told you so" purposes, I'll go with the Patriots over the New Orleans Saints.

Young Sits as Titans Fall to Redskins 14-6
The Titans fell to the Redskins on Saturday night 14-6 at home, but the big story of the game came down about an hour before kickoff, as the team sat quarterback Vince Young out of the game after he violated an unspecified team rule. “He will be on the sidelines tonight, will practice this week and play next weekend at New England,” Fisher said in the release. Young would not have played much, as he was only get to play three or four series in the game. Kerry Collins, the teams number two QB, got the start, and went 10-17 for 79 yards.  Back to Young, he appeared on TV and while he would not say what he did that was wrong, he did warn children not to break the rules.  Reports say that Young reportedly stayed at home instead of the team hotel, which is why he was not allowed to take the field. Average draft position as of July 31st: Overall: T.Owens (21), Clinton Portis (22), R.Wayne (23) Position: R.Brown (RB15), Clinton Portis (RB16), E.James (RB17) My Projections: rush-1190/10, rec’v-28/224/1

Redskins RB Portis Sidelined until Next Week
Portis, 25, missed a second straight day of practice yesterday and will continue to strengthen and have treatment on his swollen knee, likely remaining on the sideline until at least next week. Portis, whose tendinitis was diagnosed in May, was limited to eight games last season. He suffered a partial dislocation of his shoulder on the opening series of the preseason and later broke his hand. He never resembled the runner who set a franchise record with 1,516 yards in 2005. Reported by Jason La Canfora <<<Hotwire>>> If you roll the dice on Portis this year, be sure to snag Ladell Betts for insurance.

Redskins RB Portis Held Out Of Practice
Coach Joe says that Clinton was held out of practice because his knee tendinitis flared back up. He says the team will monitor it closely - of course - and is being extra careful. Reported by Jason La Canfora, Washington <<<Hotwire>>> Portis has been a fantasy stud with the exception of last year due to injuries to his hand and shoulder, which opened the door to Ladell Betts. Back in May, Portis was diagnosed with patella tendonitis in his knee. So this comes as no surprise and should raise a flag. I personally am not very high on Portis this year because I think Betts will take a lot of touches away from him to keep him fresh throughout the season. If you can manage to get both, you should be okay. Average draft position as of July 31st: Overall: T.Owens (21), Clinton Portis (22), R.Wayne (23) Position: R.Brown (RB15), Clinton Portis (RB16), E.James (RB17) My Projections:  rush-1190/10, rec’v-28/224/1

      Redskins’ Springs to be traded?
Despite the fact that Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs had a busy offseason (recovery from a broken shoulder blade, being the prinicipal in numerous trade talks, refusing to take a pay cut and choosing to work out on his own away from the team), Springs arrived at Redskins training camp.  Springs, as one would expect, stated that the trade rumors did not bother him; to add fuel to the fire, at least one team (Denver Broncos) has expressed an interest in Springs. In a conversation with Ryan O’Halloran of the Washington Times at the team’s training camp facility, he said, “I’ve been around the league because of my dad and as an athlete, you’re an independent contractor.  “That’s part of the business.  I took it as flattering that other teams wanted me.  Everybody was doing what they can do to improve their organization.  I’ll worry when other teams don’t want me.  Bottom line.  I think I can ball, I think other peop

Redskins sign Brian Westbrook’s brother (AP)
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins signed Brian Westbrook’s brother on Tuesday, along with seven other players who attended the team’s recent rookie camp. Byron Westbrook, a defensive back from Division III Salisbury, is the latest Redskins acquisition with family ties to the NFL. Last month, the team drafted Carson Palmer’s brother (Jordan Palmer), Dawan Landry’s brother (LaRon Landry) and the son of former NFL player Bennie Blades (H.B. Blades). more…

      The Redskins - 15th August 1983
Now you'd think I would be familiar with The Redskins being that they come from the same City which I have spent all my worldly days. The truth of the matter is however that this session is the first time I have ever heard the band....and yes I feel quite ashamed of myself. I think I'm right in saying that The Redskins released just one album, "Neither Washington Or Moscow" in 1986 and on the strength of this session I'll have to track down a copy. This is the second of two Peel Sessions recorded by the band. The first was transmitted on 20th October 1982 and later released as a Peel Session 12" through Strange Fruit.Chris Dean - Guitar/VocalsNick King - DrumsMillicent Martin Hewes - BassSteve Nichol - TrumpetLloyd Dwyer - SaxophoneThe Redskins - Peel Session 15/8/1983Sorry there seems to be a problem with these files. Washington Redskins (5-11)
2006 season: 5-11Head Coach: Joe GibbsOffensive Coordinator: Al SaundersDefensive Coordinator: Gregg WilliamsPro-Bowl: Chris Samuels (OT) and Sean Taylor (FS)OffenseThe Redskins rushing game actually was very good despite Clinton Portis only starting 7 games. Ladell Betts has been a backup his entire career, but this year being forced into the starting roll he gained 1,154 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns, he also added 53 receptions, 445 yards and another touchdown. This prompted Washington to immediately offer him a contract extension(which he accepted). Now their passing game was their weak point. Mark Brunell threw for 1,789 yards, 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, but he was benched after starting 9 games in favor for Jason Campbell. Campbell had a pretty decent season throwing for 1,297 yards, 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Santana Moss had a down season, he only caught 55 balls for 790 yards and 6 touchdowns. I don't really feel that his down season was his fault, he missed 2
