How to quickly bind a range of IPs on RedHat based systems
In this short post I will show you how you can quickly add a range of IPs on any RedHat based system (Rhel, Centos, Fedora, etc). When you have to add many IPs to a system this can be quite handy and save a lot of time. Normally when you add a new IP to a network interface in a RedHat based system you create a file ifcfg-eth0:x in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/. For example: /etc/sysconfig/

FAQ: static routes after restart/reboot in Fedora/RedHat/CentOS
Static routing is the term used to refer to the manual method used to set up routing. An administrator enters routes into the router using configuration commands. This method has the advantage of being predictable, and simple to set up. It is easy to manage in small networks but does not scale well. Question: How can [...]

No SUSE or RedHat consumer Linux OK for Ed Tech
Several outlets have reported that both Red Hat and Novell will not plan to market or develop versions of their Linux distributions for the consumer desktop. Both companies have cited limited opportunities in this market due to domination of a particular brand. My first reaction was disappointment. Competition is a very good thing and to have two major Linux players decide that it’s not even

      Amazon EC2 and RedHat Enterprise!
Huh. Just read about Redhat and Amazon teaming up to give you RHEL Cloud Computing (via). Basically, you can now buy RHEL support with preconfigured AMI’s on Amazon EC2 directly from Amazon. And by you and now I mean you if you’re a participant in the private beta and if you aren’t now means, not now, but still. I think it’s a pretty interesting move for RedHat and Amazon, I honestly have no idea how big an event this is (I suspect it doesn’t do too much, but who knows? People have been looking for good grid serving for awhile now) but I think it’s an interesting step forward for both of them. Redhat’s pricing of RHEL has been nutty. Seriously, it is quite expensive with not too much benefit over going with another distribution. And it’s quite an interesting model for Amazon. The pricing of this RHEL combines a $19 monthly fixed fee per instance (regardless of instance size) and the cost per instance hour also goes up, over doubling for

X/OS Linux 5: The Free RedHat
X/OS Linux 5 is a Free and Open Source Linux distribution derived from the freely available source rpm packages of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5).X/OS has spent considerable effort to avoid using Red Hat's trademarks in any way that would imply an association with or sponsorship by Red Hat. X/OS Linux is not produced, maintained or supported by Red Hat.X/OS is a good, easy-to-use operating system with a massive choice in software -- which is only to be expected, since that's what Red Hat is, but it lacks any value beyond that offered by Red Hat or CentOS, another distro built from RHEL sources. The major change touted on the project's Web site is additional installation methods, but to enable these methods you must have a valid RHEL or X/OS key. Another change is listed as "minor bugfixes," with no further info beyond "see specific packages for details." The rest of the differences between Red Hat and X/OS are just naming and skinning. There is no additional documentation availa
