      RED WINGS BEER PONG TABLE
If you were curious what I was doing for that week that there were no Skinny posts, this is it. It had been too long since I had let me inner Home Depot out, the Red Wings season was starting, and I wanted a new beer pong table. That was reason enough to use my afternoons for something constructive, literally. Let me tell you, rounding the edges of a piece of wood is not that easy. Next time I

I'm calling it now, Red Wings vs Penguins 08'-09'
I'm going to go ahead and call it, Detroit vs. Pittsburgh for the 09'  finals in a rematch of last years Stanley Cup Finals. I just don't see who is going to come through and knock either one of these giants off their perch. I suspect we are going to see something strikingly similar to the Edmonton Oilers dynasty of the late 80's or perhaps the New York Islanders a decade earlier. Granted, Gretz

      Red Wings Stanley Cup Parade
There is not a lot of images or videos of the Wings' Cup parade out there yet. But there are a few images at Yahoo.Oh, I see TSN has a story up on their site, with great video footage. Check it out. As you can see, Zetterberg is almost glued to his Conne Smyth trophy. He should be. These playoffs were a defining moment for him. He deserves it.T Tags: Red+Wings Stanley+Cup+Parade video pictures Det

Did the Red Wings Drink Bud Light Out of the Stanley Cup?
The Detroit Red Wings won their 11th Stanley Cup last night, beating the Pittsburgh Pengiuns 3-2. The game was played while the ink was still drying on an agreement between Anheuser-Busch in the U.S. and Labatt in Canada with the National Hockey League to keep Bud Light as the "official beer of the NHL" through the 2010-11 season. Bud Light has been the official beer of the NHL since 1998. With th

      Red Wings Got it!
My husband has been watching the fifth and last game of Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup (French: La Coupe Stanley) is an ice hockey club championship trophy, awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs champion. It is commonly referred to as The Cup, The Holy Grail, or facetiously (chiefly by sportswriters) as Lord Stanley's Mug. The Stanley Cup is surrounded by numerous legends an

      Red Wings fans are crazy
I’m starting to see more and more why people consider Red Wings fans classless. During the National Anthem of the Saturdays Stanley Cup game 4 between the Red Wings and the Penguins, Zach Smith, who is an big Red Wings fan, decided that it would be a good idea to throw an octopus onto [...]

      Red Wings-Penguins Game 4 Preview
Most of the stories surrounding Game 4 revolve around Tomas Holmstrom. Firstly, Is he going to play tonight? If not, Dan Cleary will take his spot on the top line and Darren McCarty will dress. Holmstrom is a game-time decision. The other issue is Holmstrom's diving, which is big headlines in the Pittsburgh Tribune. Hal Gill received 2 cross checking minors in Game 3 because he was trying to remov

Red Wings don't want to change their lineup. The Penguins do.
"All we're doing today is, we won the last game and we're not changing (the lineup)," Mike Babcock said. "The bottom line with Cheli (Chelios) is, we have a lot of respect for his ability and what he brings to this team. But this isn't about Cheli, it's not about me, it's about the Detroit Red Wings and winning." That speaks volumes of the play of Chelios' replacement Andreas Lilja. So is this goi

Penguins-Red Wings Preview / Prediction / Funky Stats
It is a very tough call predicting which team is going to take Lord Stanley this year. On one side, you have a more experienced team in the Wings who have shown so much composure throughout the regular season and playoffs. On the other side you have a younger team that is showing composure beyond its years.I am going to break this down into several statistics from this year's playoffs so far in or

Keys To Beating The Red Wings
The 4th and Final Installment of the Playoffs. Pretty kick ass to be able to say that.I've been taking some time with this one because the Red Wings are a much different type of matchup than what the Pens have gotten so far in the playoffs. The Red Wings have speed, they can pass the puck extremely well. Their transition game is excellent. They play their system about as good as any team in the le

NHL Wrap: Red Wings finish off the Stars.. Bring on the Pens
Red Wings 4 - Stars 1: The Red Wings came into game 6 on a mission. They looked like a determined team. They looked like a team that didn’t want to let their recent slipups affect where they felt they belong, the Stanley Cup finals. The Red Wings didn’t want to leave anything [...]

Red Wings Advance to 2nd round
The Detroit Red Wings are headed to the second round, after defeating the offensively-challenged (and depleted) Nashville Predators. Dan Hamhuis logged an impressive 21:29 of ice time and had five hits, but finished the game a -2. The Bulkley Valley weeps as the hometown hero returns after another first round exit. And what the hell is it with Nik Lidstrom and his shots from centre ice? Geeeeez, that brought back some terrible memories.Poor Dan Ellis. That kid faced a crazy amount of shots this series, but has nothing to show for his efforts. The Preds shouldn't have to worry about goaltending for the next couple years.

Red Wings Blow Chance At Team History
One of the most recognized teams in the NHL, Detroit Red Wings, came short of making history again when the last place Los Angelas Kings defeated the squid-loving bunch, 5-3. Take note that the Kings are still in last place, even after the win.The Red Wings had a chance to match their team record winning streak with 9 wins, but fell just one win short. They blew a 2-goal lead and Osgood took a beating. But no worries, Red Wing fans - They're still first in the NHL!For the article on the game, click here.

      Red Wings 3 Canucks 2
Don't mind the close score, because this one wasn't really all that close in several ways.- the Wings outshot the Canucks 39-15, including 10-4 in the 3rd when they were up 3-1. Praise be to Luongo, who kept it close. The score could have been 10-2.- the Canucks took 5 penalties to Detroit's 6, yet are still the most penalized team in the NHL.I don't quite understand the Canucks' refusal to shoot the puck more tonight. The Wings fired pucks from all over the place. Are the Nucks gun shy? Waiting for the perfect shot? Well cut it out god dammit! It is not the way to win games.Another very evident factor was Detroit's speed. The Canucks could not contain them tonight.4-6-0. Locked into 11th spot in the Western Conference. 5 points out of a playoff spot. Only 5 points up on the Coilers. Is it time to panic yet? Not quite. But it's getting there. I don't see any improvement in this team as the games go on. It's actually getting worse isn't it? This is not how we were supposed to

      Red Wings - Avalanche Rivalry
I am not admitting to being a hockey fan or anything crazy like that, but I did make it a point to watch Red Wings - Avalanche games back in the late 90’s because there was sure to be a fight. And as everybody knows, hockey fights are phenomenal because the ref’s just let them go as long as its an even match-up. And the best part is, most of these big fights occurred in the playoffs. Red Wings
It looks like this might be the year for the Red Wings. After losing in the first round the last few years, it is the physical play of the Red Wings that helped them eliminate the Flames. With the way the age less wonder Chris Chelios is playing, I guess he could play forever. The x-factor in the series against the Sharks is big Bert. I think Todd Bertuzzi has fit well with the Wings and he should just get better as the playoff continues. With Chelios, Lidstorm, and Schneider I expect the Wings to play a strong physical game against the Sharks. In addition, I would go with Hasek anyday for big games than Evgeni Nabokov.Prediction - Wings in 7

      Game 6: Flames 1 Red Wings 0 (2nd int)
What the hell. Since I have my laptop and the Flames/Wings game in front of me, I may as well do a live period-by-period report about it. I don't really like the Flames at all, but I am hoping that somehow they can force this series to 7 games and knock the piece of dung Red Wings out of the playoffs. I do, after all, hate Detroit, and don't mind seeing any or all of the Canadian teams advance. As long as it's not at the Canucks' expense!1st Period-All this talk about "Ooo, Hasek hasn't played back-to-back games, blah blah." Give me a break. It means absolutely nothing!-The team that scores first in this series has won every game.-As usual, the Flames come out firing at home and are physically dominant. Regardless, the Wings are keeping their composure, and badly outshooting the Flames.-Over half way through the 1st , Giordano took a Matthieu Schnieder slapper in the head. He was bleeding pretty good, but he got up after a couple of minutes.-2:45 left and Daymond Langkow takes a s

      Red Wings vs Jackets
Alright, I have been to a ton of hockey games. But, never really experienced what I experienced yesterday. The crowd was a pretty big mixture of Red Wings and Blue Jackets fans...which made for an interesting game. I think the thing that sticks out the most to me with this is the Red Wings fan trying to boo Sergei Fedorov in OUR building. I mean seriously who does that? It's rude not only to

      Canucks 4 Red Wings 1
Now THAT is the Canucks effort that has been lacking recently! The Canucks buried the Wings early and held on to their lead by weathering a 3rd period storm and even got an empty net goal from Trevor Linden to seal the deal. The Canucks looked alot less chaotic in their own zone last night, especially in the 3rd period when Detroit came on and outshot them 14-6. When the Wings had a great chance to score, they were either stymied by Roberto Luongo, or just did not get the bounces, like the open net chance that went off Mattias Ohlund's skate. -there were too many penalties in this one. The Canucks went 0-for-9 (not good) and the Wings were 1-for-8. Our PK was pretty damned good, with even Brendan Morrison scoring a shorthanded tally...that was a great goal.-Cowan continued his strong play but his icetime suffered because of all the special teams involved.-Bryan Smolinski's wrap around goal was priceless. Smo finally got rewarded for his great play of late.-Niklas Lidstrom made some e

      Red Wings ride into town
If there are ever Canucks games I look forward to, it's the games against the hated Red Wings. These games are rarely dull and full of competitive fire. I expect tonight's game to be the same. The Canucks have beat the Dead Wings twice this season in 3 games. The 2 wins were in Detroit. The Red Wings beat the Canucks 3-2 at the Garage on November 14. I wonder if the continuing trend of the road team winning these games will continue.Detroit is going to be a handful. They have just come off of back to back wins against Nashville to take 1st spot in the Central. That was no small task.In those 2 games:-Datsyuk had 3 assists, and has 2 goals and 13 assists in a 9-game point streak.-Jiri Hudler has come alive, scoring the game winner in both games and recording 3 goals and 1 assist altogether.-Robert Lang had 1 goal and 3 assists.-Kyle Calder had 1 goal and 3 assists.Since January 26, the Wings are 15-3-3. They continue to roll even when Chris Osgood plays between the pipes, and especial
