      Yankees/Red Sox fued turns fatal
I’ve always considered myself a very passionate and borderline crazy sports fan. I am ride to die for my team but not literally. Ivonne Hernandez is though. She is accused of running down a man with her car after a Yankees/Red Sox argument at a bar. Thats definitely one way to [...]

Red Sox 7, Tampa Bay 3: Walking a Mile in their shoes…
There are a million and one clichés to describe the sweep of the Satan Fish (oh, I’m sorry, they are the “Rays of Sunshine” now–could that possibly ANY lamer? They must have a 6 year old heading their Marketing Department) but my favorite is above: “Before you judge, walk a mile in someone’s shoes. Then [...]

Red Sox 0, Toronto 3: No sweep for you!!
Who exactly said that pitching wins games?? The Sox definitely have the pitching–it’s the hitting that in deep crap right now…. Do you know who many runs the Sox have scored in the last 3 games? TWO… and in the last week? SEVEN–that’s right, seven runs in the last 6 games, including being shut out twice [...]

Red Sox 1, Toronto 0: The Walking Wounded…
If the list of injured players for the Sox doesn’t slow down quick, it’s going to be a very VERY long season… Last night, when Tito brought in Jed Lowrie to pinch run for David Ortiz in the bottom of the 9th, it was a good thing the game was over in that inning, because the [...]

      4/30: Red Sox/Blue Jays Recap
Another one run game, another bottom of the ninth win only last night it was Jason Varitek. The Red Sox captain came to the plater with the winning run on second, in the form of Manny Ramirez, and hit a base hit up the middle. Vernon Wells handled this ball a million times [...]

Deja Vu. Sox got the win tonight on ANOTHER walk off RBI single, this time coming by way of Jason Varitek. David Ortiz also chipped in earlier in the game with a solo home run. 2-1, Sox win. As always the full game recap tomorrow morning.

Who would have thunk that Jon Lester, whose last couple of starts have been less that stellar, would throw 8 innings of 2-HIT ball, going head to head with Blue Jay ace (and most excellent veteran pitcher) Roy Halladay…in a game that lasted an amazing 2 hours and 18 minutes–wish we could have one of [...]

It’s bad enough the Sox have now lost 5 in a row–But the last 3 were to Tampa Bay….and two of those games were pitched brilliantly by the starter: Clay Buchholtz (Saturday Night): 8IP (A complete game, no less…), with 3 hits, 2 [...]

Shields' 2-Hitter Helps Rays Blank Red Sox 3-0
I am not suggesting that the Tampa Bay Rays are all of a sudden division contenders in the American League East, but in the past week or so, they have played like a team that is better than Rays' teams from the past. Sunday's game was a prime example of that as James Shields pitched a complete game shutout, leading Tampa Bay to a convincing 3-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay was led on offense by rookie Evan Longoria as he went 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI; the win went to James Shields (3-1) as he pitched a complete game, allowing only 2 hits, walking 1 while striking out 7. Boston managed only 2 hits - one each by Dustin Pedroia and Julio Lugo; Josh Beckett (2-2) took the loss as he pitched 7 innings, allowing 10 hits, an earned run, walking

What…A…Freakin…Waste… Justin Masterson comes up from AA Portland to cover for all of the ailing starters, giving WAY more that he was ever expected to give: 6 brilliant innings of 1-run ball, only giving up 2 hits (including a solo home run) while walking 4 and striking out 4–and what happens? I mean, really, has no one ever heard of the flu shot? I get one every year, and it manages to keep me reasonable healthy… For the 2nd night in a row, a Red Sox starter is a late scratch because of the nefarious bug that is going around, so Jon Lester, who hasn’t been super [...]

Ortiz Leads Red Sox To Sweep Of Rangers 8-3
The Texas Rangers historically are a team based on offense, as opposed to their pitching; Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox, unfortunately, proved that neither their offense nor pitching was effective - at least for this series, anyways - as David Ortiz' 3 RBIs led Boston to the series sweep of Texas 8-3 at Fenway Park. Boston was led by Julio Lugo with 4 hits - including a double while Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and the aforementioned Ortiz had 2 hits each - with Ortiz driving in 3 runs and Pedroia 2. The win went to Clay Buchholz (1-1) as he pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, walking 2 while striking out 6. Texas was led by Josh Hamilton and Gerald Laird - with Hamilton driving in 2 runs while Laird drove in a run; Michael Young and David Murphy had 2 hits each, as well. Dus

Manny, Big Papi Spark 8th Inning Rally As Red Sox Edges Rangers 5-3
It seems like for the past several seasons, Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez and designated hitter David Ortiz have been the heart and soul of the team as they provided numerous late-inning, heroic deeds in leading Boston to victory. Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers provided a reminder of what Ramirez and Ortiz are still capable of; Ortiz hit an 8th inning, run-scoring single while Ramirez blasted a two-run home run, leading Boston to a come-from-behind victory over Texas 5-3 at Fenway Park. Boston was led by Ramirez who went 1-for-2 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs while Ortiz and Kevin Youkalis added an RBI each. Reliever Javier Lopez (1-0) got the win as he pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning while Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 6th save.Texas was led by Hank B

Red Sox 7, Skankees 5: Doing exactly what he is supposed to do…
Josh Beckett and Manny Ramirez–two guys who, individually, are completely capable of putting a team on their back and carrying them for a period of time. Last night, they shared the burden–Josh pitched his heart out, going 8 strong (and saving a severely depleted bullpen) throwing 105 pitches (69 for strikes) and only giving up [...]

Is Yankees - Red Sox Losing its Buzz?
From Joel Sherman:You see, we in the media are as addicted to Red Sox-Yankees as any junkie is to a drug. We have all decided to ignore realities that this series has lost a good deal of its juice the past few years, and now contains two of the worst traits of modern baseball: The games are usually way too long and too often come with the commentary of Joe Morgan. In fact, this series has become Joe Morgan in many respects: Famous for something that happened in the past and now something presented to us regularly as extraordinary that, quite frankly, isn't.This is like "Survivor" or "ER" now. Something that used to be unique and special and well done, that lost its essence years ago. However, it stays on the network schedule in hopes that it can recapture what it once was. I asked a Fox ex

Of course, he is a hero every day of the week, being one of (if not THE) best catcher in the game, but last night, the role of game saver did not go to big hitter Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz–but to Jason Varitek. His pinch-hit solo shot in the 9th inning broke the tie [...]

CURSE SHIRT DONATED TO RED SOX CHARITY
The Evil Empire strikes again! The BOSTON HERALD reports: The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston confirmed yesterday that the New York Yankees plan to donate to the Jimmy Fund the David Ortiz jersey they chipped from beneath two feet of cement in the new Yankee Stadium. “They will be sending it to us later this week,” hospital spokesman Bill Schaller said. The Yanks thought it more appropriate to let the shirt be auctioned off to help the Jimmy Fund - a charity, ironically enough, synonymous with the Red Sox. “The Steinbrenner family has supported the Jimmy Fund in the past, so we’re very grateful they thought of us,” Schaller said. “I think everyone’s on the same side when it comes to cancer. We all want to beat it.”HOW EVIL!

Red Sox Jersey Dug Up At Yankee Stadium
One of the workers on the crew that's building the new Yankee Stadium is a big Red Sox fan, and when he had a chance to bury a David Ortiz jersey in the ground he took it. Some coworkers who are Yankee fans didn't think his attempt to curse the Bronx Bombers was very funny, so they got their jackhammers and successfully dug up the shirt. Yankee management has gone to the local district attorney to see if they can bring any charges against the worker who buried the shirt. The jersey is being sent to the Jimmy Fund in Boston where it will be auctioned off with all the money going to help in the fight against juvenile cancer.

Round One to Red Sox: Yankees Lose Two of Three in Boston
They call it the greatest rivalry in sports, though Michigan and Ohio State fans may disagree. I think we can all agree that it’s the greatest rivalry in professional sports, anyway. It started with a dominating performance by Yankee ace Chien-Ming Wang (aided significantly by the Red Sox’s anemic bats), included a nice outing (and win) by Josh Beckett, and ended with a shaky outing by Dick-K and a horrible outing by Yankee phenom Phil Hughes. Maybe the young Yankee starters are feeling the pressure of being chosen over Johan Santana, but they certainly aren’t tearing up the major leagues this April. Especially considering it was 30-degrees (conservatively) in Boston on Sunday—not exactly great hitting weather. I jotted down some notes during and after all three games.
