Recycled Weapons Calls For Peace After Long War
After more than 30 years of civil war, ending in 1998, the Cambodian government has collected and destroyed more than 160,000 weapons across the country. In the name of peace some of those weapons were donated to the PAPC. The PAPC (Peace Art Project Cambodia) is a project that was created in November of 2003 by British artist Sasha Constable and Neil Wilford, small weapons specialist with the European Union. In the name of peace the weapons were recycled (sculpted, forged or welded) into amazing works of art such as: chairs, tables, bikes, animals and various other sculptures by student artists from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. Isn't there something twisted about sitting on furniture made of guns? Or making art out of AK-47's? What do you think?Personally I'd like to

I love summer weather and a recycled horse
It has been b-e-a-utiful outside lately and I am loving it. It’s amazing how quiet the house gets when the weather gets warmer All the playing outside has been thoroughly wearing the boys out. Also something I love. We also got our first chance to see a ball game here. We took the boys to see the Red Wings Friday night and had a great time. I haven’t had much to say on here as of late, but I hope to have some more blogging ideas in the coming weeks. I certainly have lots of pictures to share. These are all the pics I’ve taken of the boys over the last week or so, including pics from the ball game Friday night. There’s a lot, so I’ll post them after the jump.

Save The Environment & Use Recycled Printer Ink Cartridges
The business of manufacturing printer inks and printer ink cartridges is a multimillion-dollar industry. Most people who own computers also own printers and make use of printer ink cartridges. Hundreds of millions of printer ink cartridges were sold in Europe and the United States in the last two years alone. The question is: where do all these empty printer ink cartridges go? Ideally, used printer ink cartridges should find their way to special recycling centers where the materials these cartridges were made of are retrieved for future use. Unfortunately, only 25% of all those millions of cartridges consumed every year go that way. Empty Printer Ink Cartridges Can Contribute to Pollution Empty printer ink cartridges are non-biodegradable products. This means that if these cartridges end

Recycled Cell Phone Shipments to Exceed 100 Million Units in 2012
According to a recent study from ABI Research, shipments of recycled handsets (old handsets recycled for reuse) are expected to exceed 100 million units in 2012. Shorter handset replacement periods, growing demand for low-cost handsets in emerging markets, regulatory requirements, and growing consumer awareness are key factors driving the market for recycled handsets. Handset vendors including Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and LG are concentrating more on designing and manufacturing mobile phones to ensure that they are easily recyclable and contain a minimum of hazardous elements. This is being complimented by the efforts of mobile operators, retailers, recycling companies, charities and various take-back schemes, resulting in more users starting to return their old, no longer used handsets for recycling.

      Fashion with Interesting Recycled Objects

If you think doing this sounds too outrageous, think again. Because more and more people want to do their respective shares in protecting the environment, the thought of wearing recycled materials is now actually a welcome thought. Truth be told, the mere fact that as much as 700,000 tons of textile and 100 millions pairs of shoes are being disposed of every year in the United Kingdom alone is enough reason for people to be inspired to follow the rules of recycling. Not only will wearing interesting recycled objects make you a more responsible citizen, it will also show that you are socially conscious and eco-friendly as well. Spiral Island, as it was called, was the result of the life-long environmentalist’s efforts to demonstrate sustainable living. Now, Richie is back to building his new island and this time his plans are even more ambitious. Not content with the original design that had bamboo and plywood netting loaded with sand and complete with planted mangroves, all laid out on a bed of plastic bottles, Richie now plans to design the island so it can float out to sea. It is important to research a prospective recycler and find out more about the operation and its recycing process? Where do the computers go? Are they refurbished? What about computers that cannot be refurbished? Also PC manufacuters should create components that make it easier to recycle them once they are at the end of their useful life. Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.”People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,” the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying. A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said. The amount of waste created at shoe factories is great deal more than you would originally thought, there are all those pieces of off cuts etc, but thankfully instead of them just being thrown away there are some people who have been innovated enough to think of a way to use them. Donate Mobile Phones: BBC Children in Need appeal, reused & recycled on
Following on from the post about “what do you do with your old mobile phones”, we had some great news from a comment that is such a good idea. If you have got an unwanted mobile phone you can donate it to the BBC Children in Need appeal which aims to help encourage recycling and raise funds for Children in Need. The BBC’s The One Show has teamed up with Fonebak and they will donate £5 for every reusable mobile phone received. It reported that 18 million mobile phones are replaced every year and also as I said before my old phones are sitting in boxes somewhere, but I am not the only one as they say that 90 million phones are sitting in drawers. Now I know what to-do with my old phones, you can donate a phone here on Fonebak Written by Daniel for Product ReviewsIn Sections: News, Cell & Mobile Phones

      Recycled Housing Gets Noticed
Back in June, I talked briefly about the use of disused shipping containers as green housing solutions, comparing it to the use of aluminum cans and glass bottles to build geodesic dome houses. Looks like some others have caught wind of the idea. According to the links in the Making Light blog post, there's actually a number of ongoing projects that are turning our excess into a viable housing alternative. As mentioned before, one of the phenomenal upsides to the whole thing is that this is recycling at its very best. For now, the US seems to be a net importer of these things as part of the trade imbalance with China--since not as many goods go out as come in, there isn't as much demand for empty containers once they've reached their initial destination. Firsthand, I experienced recycling of these guys while deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the US Marines. Our facility had a number of these left lying around, and it was relatively simple to fit them with air conditioners and pa

      Recycled Furniture To Preserve Legacies
While most people are busy trying to replace and improve their home designs with the onslaught of newly released furniture designs, there are still some people like Wilhelmina Garcia, a 28 year old interior designer from the Philippines in preserving old furniture and recycling them to be what they once were. Indeed not many people would go through to all the trouble of trying to refurbish their old furniture. There are still remaining sentimental values in them and if only people would give it a thought, nothing beats the design and complement of old furniture in homes today. “Iam a big believer of recycling, workin the concept of going back to the basics, of preserving nature’s legacy,” says 28-year-old interior designer, Wilhelmina Garcia. Such ardor for everything recycled and “nature-based” produced the refreshing unit design which won the grand prize in the 2007 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) National Competition for Interior Design. Via PinkTentacle.com: The works, which include renditions of da Vinci’s Mona Lisa (2.3 x 1.6 meters) and the Birth of Venus, as well as Renoir’s Dance at the Moulin de la Galette, consist of “pixels” formed by overlapping the black and white tickets in intricate patterns. Fountains Use Recycled Water: Alabama Drought 2007
Alabama has been in drought conditions all summer. Lawns are browning, trees are loosing leaves, flowers and shrubs are wilting and dying away. The Birmingham Water Works has issued a Stage 3 drought alert limiting what days you can water your lawn. They have also requested that you don't wash you cars, trucks, etc... until further notice. Fines are being issued and the public has been asked to asked to report those who are violating the rules. This has brought about signs like this being seen everywhere from car washes, golf courses, and even shopping centers like the one where I took this photgraph.I have to ask though. Doesn't water evaporate in extreme heat? Is the water there today the same that was there yesterday? Probably not... but as with anything else, I guess this is just a sign of the times.
