April 22 was Earth Day (if you want to get technical, it was one of two Earth Days , but that's another story) so now's a good time to remind everyone that recycling is about more than just bottles and cans. Computers, cell phones and other electronics are recyclable too, which is good, because we know how fast you nerds go through gadgets and rigs. The next time one of your computers crunches its last equation or serves up its last blue screen, drop it off at an e-waste recycling center. 2. Americans throw away close to the equivalent of 30 [...]

Many of the things that we do increase the emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Whenever we burn a fossil fuel to drive our car, heat our homes, make hot water, or provide the electricity, we inject it into the atmosphere. Other industrial activities, such as manufacturing cement, emit significant amounts as well. What if we could take the CO2 from a power plant, and sequester it into commonly used, and quite resilient, products? Carbon based plastics are already sold each year, so they are not a new product. However, using emissions to create those plastics is a new and exciting idea.

We think of human pee as gross and something that ought to be vigorously “cleaned up” or sanitized. However, human urine is actually sterile (unlike faeces, urine is bacteria-free). This liquid by product of our daily lives can be a rich food source if it gets into the RIGHT part of the right ecosystem. Now, most human urine travels untreated into the waterways and the excess Nitrogen and Phosphorus in our urine overfeeds algae (like Red Tide) and effectively suffocates fish.

There is much more to Hong Kong Willie than recycling. Humans must always think REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. These are the three R's we all must abide by. See what you can do to reduce your footprint on Earth. Then find ways to reuse items destined for the landfill. Finally recycle everything you possibly can. By accomplishing these three R's, Humans can leave much less of a footprint on Earth. Following is a short video for our viewers in order to remember Reduce, Reuse, and Recycling:
When the ink in your printer cartridge runs out, what do you do? Do you just chuck the printer ink cartridge in with the trash, or do you recycle them? According to statistics, there are hundreds of millions of printer ink cartridges sold every year in Europe and in the United States alone. However, only a bare 5% of those printer ink cartridges ever find their way to a recycling center once they are used up. Why Recycle Printer Ink Cartridges? Advocates of the environment have two major reasons why they think printer ink cartridges should be recycled. One is that printer ink cartridges can harm the environment, while the other is that the materials they are made of come from finite sources that need to be conserved. 1. Printer ink cartridges are pollutants. Printer ink cartridges are non

Recycling printer cartridges has extremely vital benefits for the society. The consumer gets a huge economic benefit, and the environment insuperable benefits. Recycling cartridges is a means to save money and fuel, reduce garbage and prevent pollution. Many printer and cartridge companies have taken the initiative to recycle by refilling or remanufacturing. Hence one way of recycling is to send the cartridge back to the place from where the cartridge has been purchased. Another easier way is to refill the cartridge and reuse the recycled one. Recycling or refilling of some printer cartridges is extremely easy that anyone can refill but in some cases refilling can be messy and difficult. San Francisco may recycle more of its waste than any City in the US - resulting in 65% overall diversion of waste from the landfill. But during the holiday season, even San Franciscans are prone to create their (more than) fair share of excess waste.
I don’t remember where I read this, so don’t quote me on this… but I believe that in the U.S., we create up to 4 tons of waste just from the wrapping and packaging of holiday presents every year. That figure doesn’t even take into account the gazillions of toys that break the day after Christmas or the kazillions of somewhat useless gifts that are given and sit on a shelf until they eventually end up in the trash can.
But, there are lots of ways that you can help be a part of the solution and not the problem. Here’s just a few ideas:
Send e-cards this year - Sending electronic greetings can greatly reduce the amount of paper that gets wasted during the holidays. While they may seem less person

Are You Paying For Free Gifts
What is the thing that draw customers to your business? Free gifts? Yes, it helps. But I sometimes I do not go into a shop just because I want the free gift. I go into the shop to buy something because of my needs. Needs come first. No need, no free gift.
Recycle Bags Fashion Trends
There are many shops which give out free recycle bags. Not long ago, Old Chang Kee also gave out free recycle bags to customer who purchase more than S$10 with them. I had one when I had graving for eating their curry puffs. So far, their recycle bag is the nicest. It is big, yellow in colour, and nice. Metro also gave out free recycle bags, even earlier than Old Chang Kee. They come in pink, red and orange. I have so many free recycle bags at home. But they cannot be used to throw rubbish at home! How can I not use plastic bags?

Good news for people who have invested in those screwy lightbulbs, CFL… which lasts eons longer than the regular lightbulbs. You can take your used ones and dispose of them in the Ikea store nearest you.
For those who have been hesitant to buy one because of disposal issues (CFL contain trace amount of Mercury so [...]
The world is made up of all kinds. Ab crunchers. Dog lovers. Boob guys.
And then there are the teeth people.
An ever-growing group most easily identified by their crisp, white smiles, they are the faithful flossers, the masses with stashes (toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash) hidden in their desk drawers and glove compartments.
For you (and I know you're out there): I recommend Preserve by Recycline. After all, it's the toothbrush that is constructed with environmentally friendly materials to let you replace without the waste. You are not only keeping your teeth healthy but the world while you're at it!
When you're done with your brush, you just use the pre-paid mailer provided and they'll gladly turn it into plastic lumber or recycled store displays. And for those who need to know - where do the toothbrushes get their plastic? The answer: Stonyfield Farms. For the past five years Stonyfield yogurt cups have accounted for 25-60% of the Preserve toothbrushes (and razors).
Do you recycle cell phones? If not, you should certainly consider it. The CellforCash.com website proudly supports America Recycles Day. Check them out online for information on how you can receive a postage-paid self-addressed mailer and participate in recycling cell phones today because, if you’re like me, you’ve been buying a new cell phone every 1 - 2 years and popping the old one in a drawer somewhere.
“America Recycles Day is a great time to remind people that the old cell phone they have stashed away shouldn’t be trashed,” said James Mosieur, CEO of RMS Communications, the company that operates CellForCash.com. “Responsibly recycling an old cell phone is free, easy, and it may even come with a payoff.”

Try a different type of recycling that will save you money. Have you ever received a nice gift that you like from someone but will never use? Rather than take it back to the store for an exchange, consider keeping it to give as a gift to someone else. Another way to recycle is to look around your home. There are always things right in your home that can be used to make nice gift baskets things you never use. For example, the next time you purchase shower gel where you buy one and get one free, keep one for yourself and set the other one aside for future gift giving. You will find hundreds of ideas so be creative and consider things you purchased but have never used.

Bookmooch is a website in which a person can trade away their old books that they no longer read for books that they do wish to read. Here’s how it works. Adding books to your inventory gets you a tenth of a point per book added. With a full point you can request another book from a separate user. When a user requests one of your books, you get a point from them. You only have to pay shipping on books you send out. So essentially, you are getting a book you want to read for the cost of an old book + shipping, which, if you don’t collect your books and just read them, works out very nicely. You add books to your wishlist and you recieve an e-mail when one of those books are available for mooching.
I thought that I would tell others about this site, as it has proven quite useful for me. I have used it to trade away a lot of my old books and manga that I don’t want for books I do want. Personally I’ve given away 45 books, and received almost 60. While I believe Bo

Following on from my post on Friday about the prospect of having to pay for your waste by weight , I thought I would show you one of the methods we use to reduce the amount of waste that we throw out.We have been big fans of Bokashi since May of this year. I have posted several times on the way we use it but since the 'pay what you throw' issue has reared again I thought it would be a good opportunity to show any new readers. One of the first things that you might want to know is, what is Bokashi . It is a dry mixture of bran and molasses that has been inoculated with Ems or Effective micro Organisms. This mixture of microscopic bacteria, yeasts and fungi work work together to speed-up composting, suppress pathogens, prevent putrefaction and eliminate foul odors. To use Bokashi couldn't be easier. After adding your food waste to the bucket you simply sprinkle a layer of bran on top. You keep doing this in layers until the bucket is full. One of the main benefits, is the fact that th
With colder weather coming I am pulling out all the blankets from storage. Some of them are older and a bit tattered. While it would seem easy enough to toss out the old blankets and get new ones that certainly would not fit in with the frugal mindset. Instead I prefer to recycle the old bedding and get more life out of it.I am lucky to have a sewing machine but for those who do not you can hand stitch up new bedding that works just as well. First check what blankets or sheets just have minor tears or holes. Those can often be easily patched up so that they can live another winter season. But for anything that has seen better days you can transform the pieces into a warm and cosy quilt.Cut your old blankets and sheets into pieces to be put together. There are a number of great quilt patterns found online for free that you can use. Old sheets, especailly flannel ones, can be great backing for your quilts. Using up the old bedding to create warm quilts that you can curl up under this win
Now here is something good to ponder on. For people who carelessly throw away their waste, maybe they can take this cue of being charged for the amount of trash they throw away. Perhaps in this aspect, people can see the amount of trash and the effort they throw in recycling and doing their part in the whole climate change and global warming issue we all read about today.
Last week the government shelved a similar recycling idea at the last minute. Now it’s been included in the Climate Change Bill.
It’s all about reducing the amount of rubbish going to landfill sites and getting people to recycle more. But there’s no information about which councils will do it or for how long.

It has been quite sometime i did’t shop for my grocery at Tesco. I did my usual grocery shooping in Tesco with my wife last weekend and i found that Tesco is now encouraging people to use recycle shopping bags.
You can get this reusable plastic bag at Tesco for RM1.00. I got myself one and it can be reuse until it’s broken. The nice part is, once it’s broken, Tesco will give you back a replacement plastic bag with your broken one. Means that you just need to spend RM1.00 and keep on using this bag for your grocery shopping in Tesco. Reduce the usage on plastic bag to save our environment from Global Warming…as what i mentioned in the title recycle can always start from a simple step.
New recycling program opens up at your local Office Depot. The tech recycling services program will for a small fee of $5, $10, or $15 recycle the items for you.
Office Depot will give you a tech recycling box, which you can fill up and return to them. The price determines the size of the box small $5, medium $10, or large $15. Large holds for example, a PC monitor or other big electronic.
Here is their list of acceptable items.
Recycling electronics just got a bit easier, because now you have 2 office supply chains to choose from, Staples and Office Depot.

One of the issues I have seen in Indianapolis which concerns me is the lack of recycling. While Indianapolis is home, I have lived in the Southwest, where almost every city provides a recyclable trash receptacle, included in the cost of trash pickup. It sure makes it easier to recycle when you have the huge trash bin to place all of your recyclable.
Indianapolis does have such a program, except it is not automatic. You need to contact the city and pay for the service. For a nominal fee, they provide a special blue bin for for your recyclable.
