So I decided to try MacSpeech’s new MacSpeech Dictate software to see if it really could make my life easier. Don’t know much about that yet, but after installing it and “training” it with my voice, So, how accurate are these software packages? I designed a simple test: A 100 word passage. See how many words are missed. Calculate the percent. Totally unscientific. Totally biased.I decided to get my 100 words from the site “100 Word Stories”Here is the original 100 Word Story:"Remember close-n-play record players?"Sarah groaned. She was 30 years younger than anyone on the team, and nostalgia talk was code for "Sarah’s too young." Whenever she had a fresh ad idea, they’d start talking about old toys and cartoons that, conversations that shut her out and shut her up.Her bril

Called HWPen, the technology utilizes the iPhone's touch sensitivity to allow you to draw letters with your fingertip instead of type them on the keyboard, which is then recognized as a character and entered as text.On an interesting note, the software was originally created by Hanwang.com.cn for the recognition of Chinese characters, but supports the Latin alphabet and Arabic numerals, too.You can get HWPen on iPhone by adding the source iphonecake.com/src/all . Some people wouldn't give a second thought to squashing them underfoot but entomologist Ruud Kleinpaste predicts a doomsday scenario in a world without bugs. Known here and internationally as "The Bug Man", Kleinpaste says insects consistently get "bad press" but he can't imagine life without them. "About 80 per cent of plants are pollinated by insects and imagine if bugs didn't clean up all the crap from cattle, people or whatever. "Dung removal is a really important job and if you didn't have it, in two months' time you'd be up to your neck in shit." The trade office, registered as a private company, will most probably open in April in Tel Aviv immediately after the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry appoints a diplomat, according to the Turkish official. He underlined that Israeli investors were already doing business in northern Cyprus especially in the real estate sector and the trade office would further contribute to tourism and trade ties between Israel and northern Cyprus. Israel is not banning the possibility of having a business relationship with northern Cyprus, said the Israeli diplomat. But he emphasized that there was no official Israeli involvement in the establishment of the trade office and that it would be like those opened in other countries.

I first started using speech-recognition software because of worsening carpal-tunnel symptoms. I’m still a pretty mediocre user. The “power users” really know all of the commands, can operate the computer without barely touching the mouse or keyboard, and have “trained” the software such that they seem to be realizing 99% recognition accuracy. I have no idea how to measure accuracy as a percentage—but pulling a number out of my rear, I’d say I’m achieving accuracy more in the 70-80% range. That’s not bad though, especially considering I’m terribly lazy about “training” the software—or for that matter learning it. As an example, I skipped all of the training on the software that my company had lined up for me. Nevertheless, I am still seeing a lot of promise quite
