      GPS Receivers
For my Father’s Day / birthday present this year, I got a GPS receiver. Specifically, a Garmin nuvi, like this one: For someone as navigationally-challenged as I am (I’ve gotten lost in parking lots before), this thing is a life saver. You just punch in the address you want to go to, and it tells you [...]

      The Word On Wide Receivers
This past season, the Carolina Panthers only had one established wide receiver. Who other than Steve Smith. Having only one receiver made the passing game very hard for Carolina because most teams would constantly double or even triple team Smith. The Panthers only had a few more options that included rookie, Dwayne Jarrett, Keary Colbert, [...]

A Video Amplifier For Satellite Receivers
Almost all receivers have a built-in level controls which are adjusted by their manufacturer to give the correct output level for a standard satellite input signal. In some cases this control can be advanced far enough to lift ATV signals to the same output level but most receivers will need this design adding to assist them. There is a penalty to pay for winding an amplifiers gain up, given

Wide Receivers at the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine
Image: Andre CaldwellThis is an interesting year for wideouts with no clear cut first round stars. Last year all the buzz was about Calvin Johnson, who tore it up at the combine and was drafted 2nd overall by the Detroit Lions. Some would argue that by the time the Super Bowl rolled around that New York Giant’s Steve Smith was the best rookie receiver, if you evaluated his playoff and Super Bowl performance it would be hard to argue against that opinion. Smith wasn’t drafted until the second round (51st overall). Well there isn’t a Calvin Johnson in this draft, but there might be plenty of Steve Smith’s. What I mean is that the first round talent is not impressive, but the players that get drafted in the 2nd and 3rd round might end up as the best NFL players, and they certainly ho

Jets Could Be Without Their Two Receivers Against Cleveland
Tom Rock of Newsday is reporting that the Jets could be without both starting WR’s Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles this week against Cleveland. Coles stated that it was the worst he's ever felt for a game he played in, and said his ankle was in tremendous pain when he was lining up. Coles was very limited, though he did manage to take part in some footwork drills between receivers and corners. But he spent most of the time standing in the snow flurries with his hands in his pouch. Cotchery has remained invisible in the Jets facilities since injury his finger a week ago. Speculation led to a report that came out late last week that Cotchery had surgery and could miss the rest of the season because of it. The Jets have yet to comment on it or make any moves that would lead us to believe that he is going on the injured reserve at all. …Sadly, it’s looking like Justin McCareins and Brad Smith may get the start at wide receiver. If that is the case, look for the

      Receivers Getting Comfortable With Kellen
Gregg Hayim of Jets Confidential writes that the Jets receivers are getting comfortable with Kellen at the quarterback position. Cotchery on working with Clemens… “Every quarterback has a different style and a different release. It’s just being able to focus on your job, getting open and making catches. Whether it’s Chad or Kellen you have to do your job anyway.” Coles on playing this week… “The people that are closest to me and that I love the most are pretty much letting me know their opinion and what they think. They will make a better judgment call than I would on a situation like this because I always have my foot on the gas. It is time for me to let go and let somebody else make a decision. Hopefully, things work out for the best.”

      Brown defends wide receivers
Reggie Brown has one word for all those who claim the Eagles wide receivers never got open Monday against Washington. "Hogwash," he said Thursday. "Do these quote-unquote experts actually watch the game, or are they just looking at the quarterback?" the third-year wide receiver said. "Most of the time when you see a game, you can't even see the receivers." Brown has been conspicuous in his absence from the Eagles' play-to-play offense so far in two games, both defeats in which the offense underperformed. He has a total of three catches for 41 yards so far, but late in the 20-12 loss to the Redskins, there were some rays of hope. Brown made a tough 19-yard fourth-down catch to keep alive a Philadelphia drive. On Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid pointed to that drive as a sign that the Eagles offense might be emerging from the fog that has cost them two games. Brown agreed. "I think we started playing with a little bit more energy," he said of the fourth quarter. "Everybody focused in a

The Bust Report: Wide Receivers Part Two
This is the continuation of our two-part examination of the biggest fantasy football busts at the WR position last year. In case you missed it, in Part One we took a look at Santana Moss and Jerry Porter. This time, we'll look back on the performances of Randy Moss, Michael Clayton, and Chris Chambers. We'll also look ahead to see what 2007 has in store for these '06 busts.Randy MossIt was just Bust-a-rama for the Oakland Raiders last season. Jordan, Porter, Moss. We won't even get into Aaron Brooks. But 2007 is looking up for Randy. In the biggest off-season deal, Moss was sent packing to the New England Patriots. Moss managed only 553 receiving yards on a meager 42 catches in 2006, playing in just 13 games. He was hampered by injuries all season long. Combine that with the Raiders' offense complete inability to move the ball and Randy's bizarre mood swings and it's no wonder he was a bust. Now, however, it seems that he has found new life in New England. Brady to Moss, on pape

Ranking The AFC East Wide Receivers
Paul Needell of the Star-Ledger breaks down and ranks the wide receiver corps in the AFC East. 1. Jets: Coles and Cotchery Combined for 173 catches for 2,059 yards and 12 TDs in 2007. What more could QB Chad Pennington want? 2. Patriots: Randy Moss and Donté Stallworth Eager to see if Moss can regain his breakaway form. QB Tom Brady’s new best friend might be ex-Dolphins WR Wes Welker, New England’s projected No. 3 wideout. 3. Bills: Lee Evans and Peerless Price Evans (82, 1,292 yards, 8 TDs) erupted last season, but Price (49, 409, 3) isn’t a major factor on the other side of the field. 4. Dolphins: Chris Chambers and Marty Booker There’s a reason coach Cam Cameron took WR Ted Ginn Jr. over QB Brady Quinn ninth overall — the need for speed. …I have to agree with these rankings. Coles and Cotchery are one of the elite WR tandems in the NFL based on last years stats. However, with the addition of Thomas Jones and the running game, the numbers could

      Team Improvement - Wide Receivers
Wide Receiver Seyi ArijotutuHeading into the 2006 season Fresno State looked to have possibly it's best group of veteran receivers ever to step onto the football field. Unfortunately the talent the Bulldogs possessed at the Wide Receiver position did not develop the way Fresno State had hoped it would. Joe Fernandez would be the only Senior Wide Receiver still playing by the time Fresno State reached it's game with San Jose to end the season. Both Paul Williams and Jaron Fairman sat out a good portion of 2006 due to injury leaving the Dogs with little experience at the Wide Receiver position. Although the Dogs lost these Seniors they were able to insert Freshman who developed a feel for what the college game was like. Receivers such as Chastin West, Jason Crawley, and Seyi Ajirotutu were able to step in and find some playing time along the way. With the additions of possibly two new receivers the Dogs may have a chance to once again possess a high powered passing game with more than
