Those of us who have been to New Orleans usually have these words to say: "dirty, smelly, filthy, sewer-smeared, crime-ridden, etc." And that just the people, the streets and tenements are even worse. And I'm talking about before Katrina. Rebuilding New Orleans makes as much sense as building schools over Chernobyl and about as safe. The city administration would be wise to make it as unwelcome as possible for the poor to come back to New Orleans. Let them stay in Texas, Oklahoma and other states where they pose less risk to the general population by having less concentration of numbers. I do agree with the protesters, though, up to a point. If you just simply pay them off, it will not help your score that much because the collection account will still remain on your report although it will be closed. I’ve worked with many couples who are struggling to rebuild trust in their relationship after experiencing the betrayal of infidelity by one of the partners. Very often I’ve seen the person who had the extramarital affair express the desire that their spouse “get over” the incident far too early in the healing process. I think this often reflects that person’s inability to “stay in their pain” long enough to fully come to terms with the devastating consequences that such a violation of trust causes. Since they can’t handle uncomfortable feelings for very long (which probably has something to do with why they were unable to resist having an affair in the first place) they subtly or even overtly put undue pressure on their partner to prematurely forgive them.I try to provide realistic expectations from the outset of therapy that the process of rebuilding trust is long and slow but ultimately worth it.
