First there was the allegation that Steve Blake, one of the rebel leaders, had been monitoring the email traffic of party officers, including Nick Griffin. Next was the claim that Kenny Smith had withdrawn £4,000 from a BNP bank account after he had been sacked from his post. Rebel groups formed to fight against the government and the Janjuweed. The two major rebel groups are the Sudanese Liberation Army/Movement (SLA/SLM) and the Justice Equality Movement (JEM). Suspected Rwandan Rebels Slay DRC Villagers
By VOA News 28 May 2007   In the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern territory, local officials say suspected Rwandan rebels have brutally attacked and killed villagers. A humanitarian worker says he visited the South Kivu area, 50 kilometers west of Bukavu, where the attack occurred late Saturday. He says witnesses in the town of Kanyola told him rebels killed 17 villagers there, wounded 28 others, and kidnapped another 12. Witnesses said the attackers used knives and machetes to kill and maim villagers. The United Nations mission in Congo could not verify details of the attack, but a U.N. spokesman says a team is traveling to Kanyola to investigate. A Rwandan Hutu militia (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, or FLDR) has operated in eastern DRC for more than a decade. Many of its members fled from Rwandan territory after taking part in the slaughter of 800,000 people in 1994. Congo’s government has been trying to establish full control of the east by subdu

Ethiopian rebels kill 74 in oil attack
(Associated Press).- Ethiopian rebels who have fought alongside Islamic militants in neighboring Somalia stormed a Chinese-run oil field at dawn Tuesday, killing 74 people and destroying the exploration facility in a restive border region. It was the first such attack on a foreign company in this Horn of Africa nation, in contrast to Nigeria on the western side of the continent, where rebel groups frequently attack international oil concerns. Chinese officials said nine Chinese oil workers and 65 Ethiopians died and seven Chinese were taken away by the rebels. It wasn't known if the rebels suffered any casualties. The assault by more than 200 gunmen lasted nearly an hour, and followed a warning last year from the rebel Ogaden National Liberation Front against any investment in eastern Ethiopia's Ogaden area that could benefit the U.S.-allied government. Formed by Ethiopia's ethnic Somali minority, the Muslim group has been fighting for secession of the Britain-sized region with 4 mi

Ethiopia Declares War on Islamic Rebels in Somalia
Ethiopia launched a bombing raid on Mogadishu International Airport — the headquarters of the Islamic movement aimed at toppling the internationally recognized government of Somalia. Ethiopia’s prime minister announced Sunday night that his country was “forced to enter a war” with Somalia’s Council of Islamic Courts after the group declared holy war on Ethiopia. The Bush administration — bogged down in Iraq and, increasingly, in Afghanistan — cannot (and probably wouldn’t) do anything. According to U.S. officials, the Islamic militants battling for control of Somalia have ties to Al-Qaeda. Post-9/11, the Bush administration abandoned Afghanistan and completely neglected Somalia — the real fronts in the “War on Terror” — for his ill-conceived war. (Only to create a terrorist state in Iraq.) National insecurity brought to you by the Bush White House. Meanwhile, back in Somalia: Major fighting broke out Tuesday night.
