The southern Thailand Muslim insurgency continues with killing a Thai general during an attack on trucks carrying teachers to school. The Muslim insurgents have targeted schools and teachers in their campaign to achieve an independent state in southern Thailand. A Thai officer noted: “The insurgents can still getaway with these attacks because they are supported by the people in the area.” There have been more than 6,000 examples of violent action since the rebellion began on January 1, 2004 and at least 2,500 people have been killed.
Thailand is mainly a Buddhist nation, but its southern half contains a large Muslim minority which believes itself blocked out from power. Southern Thailand is also among the poorest regions of the nation. The Thai government is making traditional mistakes in responding to insurgents by resorting to military action rather than political and economic efforts.
A valuable artifact known as "King's Seal" is stolen by a mysterious group of people during transport in Soul Society. Hitsugaya Toushiro, the 10th division captain of Gotei 13, who is assigned to transport the seal fights the leader of the group and shortly after goes missing. After the incident, Seireitei declares Hitsugaya a traitor and orders the capture and execution of Hitsugaya. Kurosaki Ichigo refuses to believe this, and along with Matsumoto Rangiku, Kuchiki Rukia and Abarai Renji swear to uncover the real mastermind of the stolen seal, find Hitsugaya and clear his name. Meanwhile, a rogue Hitsugaya searches for the perpetrators and uncovers a dark secret regarding a long dead shinigami. Feeling a bit "homesick" I spent entirely too much time watching old German rock songs on YouTube last night. I came across an old one by Die Ärzte that I hadn't heard before, Rebell (Rebel). Rakia has been a fairly cheap way to get a buzz on. Enter the European Union.Bulgaria became a member of the European Union at the start of the year. The EU has a provision that calls for an excise tax on any homemade alcohol that is made in a public still. The cost of making 40 liters of rakia would jump from around $13 to $130 under the new rules.Bulgarians are not about to take this lying down. A national protest is planned for Wednesday.
