Real Men Go to Barber Shops
I got a haircut this past Saturday at Buddy’s Barber Shop in Front Royal, Virginia. The owner is the shop’s only barber and he charges $12 for a haircut. I am very surprised how many men and boys these days are instead choosing to go to expensive beauty salons for their haircuts. In this [...]

Mancation - Vacation For Real Men
By Iuri Tarabanov Vacation for real men has been in existence since the times of the first hunting for mammoths. The time has come to revive this tradition - exclusive vacation for men is coming into fashion again. The term “mancation”, composed of the words “man” and “vacation”, was borrowed from the film “The Break-Up” (2006). Soon [...]

      Real Men Crochet
YouTube - Boise State's Ian Johnson on ESPN GamedayI came across this video recently. What a refreshing look on crochet. I'm always excited when I see men who are able to do textile stuff- be it crochet, knitting or something else. It used to be that kitting was something all men knew how to do 200 years ago- how else were they susposed to get socks? I think it's unfortunate that now it's considered a 'girl thing.' When men do something like this to shake up the gender image, or just because they love it, they should get some kuddos. However, looking up on it more I found out something very disheartening.Boise State Broncos: The Familiar Story Of The Oppressed Crocheting Running Back With The Collapsed LungApparently Ian Johnson isn't allowed to sell his scarves, hats or other crochete

Real Men Don't Rehearse - my chat with Justin Locke
One can't help but have their interest piqued by the title of Justin Locke's expose about the inner workings of the music business.  Real Men Don't Rehearse is the exact sort of book I love to read--witty, lighthearted, yet insightful and full of valuable lessons that those outside the music industry are likely to find quite valuable. Justin has had a very interesting career.  He spent nearly two decades at the top of the Boston freelance scene, working regularly with the Boston Pops and Boston Symphony, additionally working as a contractor, score reader, and playwright.  After several years in the business, Justin began to transition out of the performing life and into his current role as author and speaker for corporate events.  Justin has also created several family concert programs which have been performed worldwide, including Peter VS the Wolf and The Phantom of the Orchestra. I find Justin's transition from performing life to his current set of activit

      Do real men cry?
Yesterday,a particular incident made me think, like get very serious and that's why i'm here to discuss it.Yesterday,I watched Jodi No 1(tamil), a program where couples in real life and random pairs dance and entertain(do they?) the viewers.I have been watching the program for quite sometime and it's been very good.Among the very few programs i watch, this is one. Now,a couple gets eliminated in each round and as usual tension spreads out in the air. There are 3 permanent judges and 2 special guests.Of the 3,one is kinda very straightforward and you must be knowing who it is.Yep,it's the great Simbu(yikes,to even speak of him when his father is still alive, the real thalai..lol:) Jokes apart,Simbu is very straightforward and though he talks nonsense at times,he's a good judge. He irritates people sometimes with his rather stupid comments.Otherwise,he's okay. He's a fair judge. But too prejudiced,if i am not wrong. He has the feeling that he's a born dancer. That might be true but being s

Real Men Leave the Seat Up
Adum's four grown brothers were in town this weekend for the BYU/UCLA football game. They were incredibly courteous guests and came equipped with their own air bed, pillows, blankets and trashbags full of twinkies, cookies, beef jerky and other digestible necessities to lessen the logistical complications of their visit. However, they still needed to be bedded. We lined three air mattresses up side by side across the front room of my apartment and sealed them in for the weekend. Since my five month old baby usually sleeps out in the front room, we had to find alternate accommodations for her. Floor space is at a premium at our place so I was left scratching my head. She couldn't sleep in the bedrooms because she'd keep us up all night. What to do, what to do. Adum finally had this ingenious solution:Yes, she slept on the floor of Adum's shower. And she loved it. Charlotte slept through the night for the first time in her life two nights in a row. This, of course, means th

Rob of Op Ed News: Real Men talk to gays
Here's Rob, the Comrade Chaddish left winger on me, I guess, since I'm a Republican. From here. Real Men Talk to Gays I was pleased to see that all but two of the Dem candidates participated in the debate sponsored by the GLBT community. The single strongest segment of the right wing's base consists of the group Michael Moore characterized in his book by the same name, "Stupid White Men." These "men" are the most homophobic in America and also, the least likely to vote left of Republican, which would include Libertarian (fiscal conservative social moderate) Democratic or Green. These are the Neanderthals who still don't get it that Bush is bad for America, bad for our troops, bad for the planet. It took guts for the Democratic presidential candidates to appear in the forum. My kudos to them for having the balls to do it-- Hillary too. => Read more!

Real Men Wear Utilikilts - News - Travel Gear Blog
As a Scotsman who is into the Outdoors, I just couldn't go past this post at http://www.travelgearblog.comReal Men Wear Utilikilts - News - Travel Gear Blog:"Real Men Wear UtilikiltsBy Mika | Permalink | No Comments | January 4th, 2007 | TrackbackReal Men Wear UtilikiltsAt one of the many coffee shops around Portland that I swing by to grab a morning cup o’ joe, I spotted a guy sporting a Utilikilt. It’s not my first time seeing a kilt wearer, but I’d say they’re fairly rare on this side of the pond. After chatting with our new friend, an REI employee, he agreed to let me take a picture with my new T-mobile Dash smartphone (more to come on the Dash another day) to post here on Travel Gear Blog.If you see him running around Portland - and you might, as these kilts are donned more days than not for him, be sure to say hi. But remember, it’s culturally insensitive to ask whether it’s worn in true Scotsman style."

      OF REAL MEN & QUICHE
BUFFALO: Never take a 54 mg time release Ritalin capsule at 3 in the afternoon, even if you ARE falling asleep at the wheel on I-94 driving to Detroit Metro Airport. You'd be better off to take the first exit, find a Starbuck's, and drink an entire pot of coffee so heavily caffeinated that it would bring Lazarus back to life. The caffeine will wear off in four or five hours but Ritalin is for-fooking-ever, sports fans. Nine hours and 21 minutes and I'm still totally stoked, and tempted to drive north all night to the bloody bridge just to see the sun rise behind the Grand Hotel on the off chance that Britney Spears might be there in a sheer negligee listening to variations on a theme by Paganini on a goddamned music box. What the HELL was I thinking?BIRD: And you say that was the last you heard of him, Sparky?SPARKY: That was the last telephone conversation we had, man.BIRD: And that was 11 hours ago, and he never made it to the airport?SPARKY: Exactamundo, man. Real Men Do Eat Fluff - Cranberry Fluff
The hit of the holiday, my grandmother's famous Creamy Cranberry Salad. The kids love it, I love it, and my brother said, "It's the only way I'll eat cranberries!" Since the recipe is in high demand, I will share it here. Enjoy. (And the family-famous Secret Cranberry Relish will follow - my husband's particular favorite.)Creamy Cranberry Salad(Otherwise known as Cranberry FLUFF)1 can Mandarin oranges, drained1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, drained2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries, coarsely chopped1 medium apple, peeled and chopped2 cups miniature marshmallows2/3 cup sugar1/8 teaspoon salt1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)2 cups (one smallish container) cool whip (not Lite - honestly, what is the point of "lite" at a holiday dinner? Let's get serious about celebration.)In a bowl, combine the oranges, cranberries, pineapple, apple, marshmallows, sugar, salt, and walnuts if desired; mix well. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Real Men Garden Blog
I think I get my appreciation for plants from two places. My grandfather was a gardener who grew mostly fruits and veggies who I swear would garden in anything that would hold a couple of handfuls of soil. He wasn't a very open or kind man he was quite the opposite of those traits. I have no memories of getting butterscotch candies from him, or of him magically finding a quarter behind my ears- but I do have a lot of memories of watching him grow plants. When he would come to Chicago for extended visits the first thing he would do is find an empty container and go outside and fill it with dirt and plant something. It was usually a seed from a food item he had just eaten which I guess made him an old school frugal gardener. If he visited in the winter he'd start seeds that needed stratification in empty coffee cans, milk cartons and when he'd be back in the spring the plants would be ready for him. I hardly ever remember him smiling except when he was looking at his seedlings sproutin
