Christian Reactions To My Bible Commentary
Just because I have received precisely the reaction I expected on my first and second bible commentary posts from Christian readers does not mean that I'm not still disappointed. Maybe it was merely a case of expecting the worst while hoping I'd be pleasantly surprised. What I am talking about is the accusation, no matter how subtle it may be phrased, that I'm attacking a straw man. Many Christians are fond of criticizing atheists for rejecting their religion because we do not fully understand it. When faced with an atheist who is actually reading their bible and still rejects it, the argument becomes one of interpreting things too literally. "You're missing the point. Christians don't read their bibles literally like you are doing." In other words, I am attacking a straw man by unfairly criticizing Christians for believing things they don't actually believe. As I have many times before, I will remind anyone tempted by this line of criticism that the majority of Americans do in fac

Swiss Reactions To Yesterday's USMNT Game
I thought it would be interesting to have a look at these. I scoured through a few Web sites and found the following (yes I can read German):Outside of Switzerland's loss in the round of 16 at last year's world cup (which came on penalties after a scoreless draw with the Ukraine) it was the first time the Swiss team failed to score a goal since 2004, according to Zurich's Tages Anzeiger newspaper. (Okay, that's not a reaction but a fact. Whatever). The same paper calls the game "weak" and says that for a long time there was no evidence the U.S. even wanted to score a goal. Still, it concedes that the few times the U.S. approached the Swiss penalty area--at the end of each half--it was more dangerous than Köbi Kuhn's side. This due to a conviction ("Entschlossenheit") that was absent with the Swiss team.Switzerland played below their level, says the St. Galler Tagblatt. The U.S. victory was not a just reward for the U.S. team's performance, particularly in the second half. Defensi

      Reactions to Obama in Iowa
After John Kerry effectively won the 2004 nomination with a victory in Iowa many are predicting that the state might once again determine the nominee. This will depend partially upon who wins. A victory for Clinton in Iowa would probably start a steam roller effect considering the lead she already has in the national polls. If Obama wins he would make it a real fight but we couldn’t count Clinton out unless she does very poorly. An Edwards win would have little impact considering how he has been practically living in Iowa since 2005 and as his populist message will be a tough sell in New Hampshire. His decision to accept matching funds will also make many reluctant to give him the nomination realizing that nominating Edwards would probably result in conceding the general election to the Republicans and give them a chance at retaking control of Congress. If Richardson, Dodd, or Biden won it would elevate them to the top tier but still leave them with a tough fight to win the nomin

Dismal And Sound Logic: Reactions Regarding The Desperate Housewives Controversy
I’m a medical student. Yes, for the past few years, I’ve been studying to be - in the words of Teri Hatcher’s character in “Desperate Housewives” - a graduate of some Philippine Med School. Of course, I do know that that line isn’t really something that the entire nation should be riled up about. After all, writers for TV shows aren’t really hired for their intelligence and tenacity in terms of researching and doing their homework when it comes to new story arcs and strategies for character development. Though I concede the ability of television to mold perceptions and leave a lasting impression and that television as much as possible should be non-discriminatory to people of a certain nationality, ethnicity or race, I strongly believe that the people under fire are more than able to weather this storm. Well, while my family was here, I actually got to watch them and see how they mingle or struggle within this overwhelmingly different society and I actually saw how much I have adapted, accepted and blended within Holland. I actually sat back a time or two and watched how the four of them got on here and the variations were astonishing to me even though they are all New Yorkers and family. I had assumed that the reactions and handling of their new surroundings would be at least a tad similar. I was so wrong, at least with one New Yorker. I imagine I will ruffle a few feathers but what can I do about it, I write it as I see it right? Heroes Season 2 premiere reactions
The second season of Heroes premiered last night. I missed it on NBC, but luckily within a few hours I found it using an “alternative method”. What do I think of it? It starts with a bang, gets watered down in the middle and ends with the usual excellent cliffhanger that ensures you don’t lose interest in the series. Hiro is my favourite hero, but I didn’t like his performance in this episode and I hope he doesn’t get stuck in the role of comical relief in the series and get involved in some serious action as the show goes on. Clare topped the list of my least favourite heroes halfway through the first season but grew on me towards the end. I really hoped her role would have been more mature now but instead she restarts the whole high school girl, cheer leading, love interest, oh my god I just touched fire and broke my leg for no damn reason role. Mothers and fathers, armed with a memory of watching a beloved child regress into poor health after complications from an infectious disease or complications from a vaccination, describe how their children died or became crippled mentally and physically. The only difference between them is that parents of children, whose injuries or deaths were due to infectious disease complications, are supported in their grief by influential leaders in academic medicine, government health agencies and the pharmaceutical industry while parents of children, whose injuries or deaths were due to vaccine complications, are ignored or criticized by opinion makers in society for speaking out about their grief. Not all Enzymatic Reactions Are Catalyzed by Protein
It had been a firmly established belief in biology that catalysis is reserved for proteins. However in 1989 the Nobel Prize was presented to Sidney Altman and Tomas Cech for discovering that RNA can catalyze a reaction. In respect, catalytic RNA make s a lot of sense. This is based on the old question regarding the origin of life, which comes first, enzyme that do the work of the cell or nucleic acids that carry the information required to produce the enzymes ? Nucleic acids as catalysts circumvents this problem.Research leading to the discovery that RNA can act as a catalyst started in the 1970’s. Thomas Cech , at the university of Colorado at Boulder, was studying the excision of introns in a ribosomal RNA gene in Tetrahymena thermophila. In attempting to purify the enzyme responsible for splicing reaction, he instead found , much of his amazement , that intron could be spliced –out in the absence of any added cell extract. Much as they tried, Cech and his colleagues could not

Bankrate’s Top 10 Money Drains and Money Ning’s 10 Reactions
I just read this article at bankrate.com dated 7/23/2007 and titled “Top 10 money drains“. This just proves that personal finance articles are timeless because we can still learn so much from it after 29 days of it being online! 1. “We spend $360 with coffee per year” – We can make it ourselves and save tons of money! Check out my article of running our own Starbucks! 2. “Pack-a-day smokers spend $1,660 a year” – Many of us need to just stop smoking. We might even want to buy their stock if we want to profit from it. I own shares of Altria (symbol MO) and it has been a good winner for me. 3. “Buying two beers per day adds up to $3,650 per year” – In fact, my fiancée and I went to recycle our bottles and saw someone who recycled 500 cans of beer! He had so many cans that even the person that works at the recycle facility was amazed. 4. “One bottle of water per day cost $365 per year” – People who buy bottled water

Reactions to the downturn, Insights on what's next
The big guy reaction to the downturn and opinion on the road ahead! The names include Warren Buffet, Wilbur Ross, Henry Paulson, John Mack, Bill Miller, Robert Shiller, Jim Rogers, Jim Chanos, Stephen Roach, Amy Brinkley, Laura Tyson, Jeremy Grantham and Ben Stein. Fortune reports:Warren BuffettChairman and CEO, Berkshire HathawayMany institutions that publicly report precise market values for their holdings of CDOs and CMOs are in truth reporting fiction. They are marking to model rather than marking to market. The recent meltdown in much of the debt market, moreover, has transformed this process into marking to myth.Wilbur RossChairman and CEO, WL Ross & CoI recently overheard two men arguing about who was better off. One boasted about his new car, the other about a plasma TV and so on, until one proclaimed, "I am better off because I owe more than you are worth." The second man conceded defeat. This anecdote summarizes the mortgage bubble. Americans spent more than they earned i

Gardasil Reactions and Deaths on the Rise
Back in June, it was reported that over 1,600 adverse reactions, including three deaths, had been linked to Gardasil, Merck’s new vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV). It appears those reactions, and deaths, are steadily rising. A review of the National Vaccine Information Center revealed the following, quite alarming, statistic about this unnecessary vaccine: 2,207 adverse reactions to Gardasil have been reported. Among them:5 girls died31 were considered life-threatening1,385 required a visit to the emergency room451 of the girls have not recovered as of July 200751 of the girls were disabledGardasil “may be more dangerous than consumers have been led to believe,” according to one public-interest group, and an editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine has also raised questions about the vaccine's effectiveness. These are hefty risks for a vaccine that only sometimes protects against HPV, which is virtually 100 percent avoidable without a vaccine, anyway. It’s essentia

Increase Technorati Blog Reactions and Authority Through Webetur.com
Technorati blog ranking is widely used as a gauged of a blog's popularity. It is also used to appraise the value of a blog. The formula on how Technorati arrives at its blog ranking is quite similar to how Google does its page ranking. Everything boils down to the number of links to your blog. Technorati calls it 'Blog Reaction'. The higher the number of links to your blog, the higher your authority and blog rank is. Although the competition to be included in Technorati's top blog is fierce, it is still worth trying. As your blog reaction and authority increase, your visibility to the Technorati users increases as well.Increase Technorati Blog Reaction with Webetur.comI have discovered Webetur.com when I was going over the communities at Mybloglog. Nintendo E3 2007 press conference reactions
Yes! Thats what I shouted every few minutes while watching Nintendo's E3 conference streamed live over the internet. I'm happy to say that I get news from all the video games I am looking forward to from Nintendo - Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros Brawl, MarioKart, Super Mario Galaxy. They also revealed a couple new games and talked about how Nintendo is achieving their goal of expanding the market and are the market leadings in handhelds and will soon be the leaders in consoles if current trends continue. Shigeru Miyamoto came on to show off a new game (Wiifit) I could care less about that game but I listened keenly and could pick up and understand a little of is Japanese (with my limited vocabulary) just before it was translated ^_^. Great E3 so far, now waiting on Sony's press conference which should start in a couple minutes. My E3 recap post will come soon after is has finished and all numb feeling in my brain from all this gaming news has passed.

Home Buying 103: 2 Common Reactions to a Buyer’s Accepted Offer
When you make an offer on a new home and it is accepted, one of two things usually happens: Buyer’s Remorse You’ve made an offer. It was accepted. You’ve almost bought your dream home. Then, later that night, or the next day, you start worrying. Did I make a good decision? Can I afford it? What if this happens? What if that happens? Anxiety and stress set in. This is a very normal reaction. It is called buyer’s remorse. The best way to handle buyer’s remorse is to take out a sheet of paper and draw a line down the center. On one side, list all the positive things about buying this home. On the other side, list all of the negatives. You will come to realize that buying this home is a really good decision. I will be with you step by step to help answer any questions and concerns.   Shopping Spree Buyers are frequently so excited about the new home that they go out and order new furniture, appliances, window treatments, and sometimes even a new car! Strong reactions to President Bush's plans for the Muslim world (Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan, to name a few)
Recently there has been serveral surprising responses to President George W. Bush and his new trend of diplomacy with Iran and his spreading of democracy in the Muslim world. It was over a month ago when The Forward reported that Jewish activist groups asked President Bush to stop promising to defend the Israelis from the Iranians: "Jewish community leaders have urged the White House to refrain from publicly pledging to defend Israel against possible Iranian hostilities, senior Jewish activists said." (here) Perhaps the groups do not want the President to put ideas in the Iranians' heads! Especially if they are enriching uranium... It was nearly three months ago that Conservative Christian groups had a strong reaction to Bush and his converting (so to say) the Muslim world to democracy. New York's The Forward also reported this, saying, "With support for President Bush already at record lows, some Christian conservative leaders say that they are reconsidering their support for the ad

The difference is that back in August sentiment was at major bearish extremes and so the market was a rocketship
