Ravens will have tough task in replacing Jonathan Ogden
It is always hard to replace a star or veteran, but replacing a Jonathan Ogden is even harder.  Jared Gaither is the player that many are hoping can fill in admirably for Ogden.  Gaither is a second year player from the University of Maryland.  Ogden spent his 12 year career with Baltimore and many were [...]

It doesn’t seem like Harbaugh was one of the guys who decided to cut Freddie Mitchell in Philly. According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Ravens worked out the self proclaimed ‘people’s champ’, WR Freddie Mitchell. Just another crappy receiver on an even crappier receiving corps. Good Luck Coach Harbaugh.

Baltimore Ravens #18 Overall (Acquired from Houston for 2008 picks #26, a 3rd rounder and a 6th rounder)Joe Flacco (QB) DelawareI really thought this would be Chad Henne. I like Brohm, Flacco, Henne in that order. Flacco reminds me a ton of Ben Roethlisberger who faced similar questions because he played in the MAC against some pretty nondescript teams. Boller should start this year and let Flacco have a red-shirt (Carson Palmer)rookie season. Look for the Ravens to target a CB or OT early in round 2.

Even if doesn't provide much information on the game yet, it shows us three very joucy screenshots and a teaser trailer, all of which featuring the Blood Ravens space marines and the Orks. The graphics in them looks definately stunning and very detailed, with awesome lighting effects. Also, reading the short text provided, we can single out a few elements: there will be campaigns for multiple races, and they will be described as "Epic", so they will probably be more story-driven than the dynamic ones that Dark Crusade and Soulstorm got us used to (they were fun, but quite a bit lacking story-wise).Also there seems to be hints about an advancement systems f

Ravens close to hiring Jason Garrett
The Baltimore Ravens are on the verge of hiring Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett. Garrett met with the Ravens brass again on Monday night. This was the second meeting between the young OC and the Ravens. Reports are coming in that Garrett could be announced as Head Coach as early as today. Now, my thoughts -Not to make MPSB(Mr. Perfect's Sports Blog) a Ravens blog, because it clearly is NOT, I want to comment on the last report.Jason Garrett? Are we serious here? 1 year as QB coach, 1 year as OC, and a pretty much horrible career as a player and that means you are Head Coaching material......I think not. The Ravens will be making a HUGE mistake if they hire Garrett before he has a chance to prove himself. They hired an "offensive genious" before, and we see how well that t

Alexander’s Return Big, Seahawks Cruise Past Ravens 27-6
It can be said that Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander returned to the team at the most opportune time - especially with the playoffs just around the corner. He and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had decent outings in leading the Seahawks to an easy win over the lifeless Baltimore Ravens 27-6 Sunday at Seattle. Neither team held a big advantage, yardage-wise (Seattle had 336 to Baltimore’s 293) or time of possession (Seattle - 32:36 to Baltimore’s 27:24). But Seattle held the advantage by being efficient - in other words, getting first downs when needed the most. no actual scoring took place until the second quarter, when Hasselbeck connected with Nate Burleson on a 21-yard touchdown pass; Burleson put on a move on Ravens reserve cornerback Willie Gaston - who is replacing Samari Rolle as he is on the IR - making the score 7-0 Seattle. The Seahawks participated in the scoring as well; Seattle linebacker recovered a Mike Anderson fumble then returned it 20 yard

NE beats Ravens at last minute - Are the Patriots getting weak?
First, it was the Eagles. Now, the Ravens. The Patriots have a hard time beating teams that are not even considered among the best of the NFL. Sure, they’re still undefeated and a 12-0 result is something we can’t underestimate. But don’t you find it weird? Isn’t it weird that the Patriots had to struggle so much to win against a regular NFL team like Baltimore Ravens?  It’s not normal to think that maybe New England won the last 2 games just by luck. But their performance lately tells us this could actually be true. It wasn’t until the last minute that the Patriots could call it a victory, with a slight advantage of 27-24 (it was literally the last minute! Only 44 seconds left). Baltimore started the game ahead of New England and by the third quarter it was a shocking tie. That’s why you could think it was just luck that in the end the Patriots were the winners.  So, it’s time the rest of the NFL stops bowing down to them and remember they are not perfect. This could

Have you noticed how prices are rising? A half-gallon of milk has gone from $2.89 to $4.89 this month. My utilities have tripled, and gas… well, you know. Since I manage my own IRA, I have CNBC on most of the day, watching what’s happening and how it will affect my money. Some days it’s just plain old difficult to be optimistic! The price of everything – that’s gas, groceries, utilities and other essentials – is going up weekly. Sometimes I feel like asking, “Are You aware of this, God? What are you going to do about this situation?” It was during one of these pessimistic periods that I thought of ravens. [I can’t explain it, so don’t ask.] I decided to run a concordance search on these less-than-beautiful birds and was surprised at all the references in both the Old and New Testaments. The first story which I remembered from childhood was poor old Elijah. He was worse off, financially, than most of us are. The story is found in I Kings 17: 1 Now Elijah the

      Former Ravens benefitting Browns
Today’s game between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens is more than just a game between divisional rivals. It also pits two teams that are, it appears, going in 2 different directions, personnel- and philosophy-wise. Their records are almost similar: Cleveland is 5-4, Baltimore is 4-5. Yet that’s where the similarities end. Let’s go back a few years; 2003 to be exact. Baltimore drafted a young strong-armed quarterback named Kyle Boller. 3 short years later, they obtained Steve McNair in free agency. The Ravens’ hopes were that both would solve the short- and long-term problem at QB. The Ravens look wrong in their decision making on that front, as McNair looks old and most definitely a shell of his former self. In the meantime, Boller looks shaky in the time he has taken snaps behind center. Meanwhile, Cleveland had a QB issue of their own. They drafted Brady Quinn this year in the late first round. They, at that time, also had Charlie Frye an

      Ravens Interested In Vilma
According to Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are showing interest in Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma who was recently placed on injured reserved with a season-ending knee injury. Current Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis has one-year remaining on his contract after this season worth nearly $6.5 million in base salary. It will count in excess of $9 million against the salary cap. Lewis has been lobbying for years for an extension and the Ravens may find an alternative and that could very well be Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Vilma would fit in very well in Baltimore and would allow the Ravens to remain in a 4-3 defense. …I wouldn’t take anything less than a first-round pick for Jonathan Vilma. His production has slowed because of the obvious switch to the 3-4 defense, but putting him back in the 4-3 makes him once again a potential top 5 middle linebacker in this league. If we manage to get a first-round pick from the Ravens, it is likely to be in the lat

Anderson’s 2 TD passes lead Browns to 27-13 win over Ravens
The much-maligned Cleveland Browns may have finally gotten the monkey off their back, after all. After years of no respect, the Browns gave the proverbial “black-eye” to one of the AFC North’s perennial powerhouses, or bullies, depending on who you ask. Fueled by Browns quarterback Derek Anderson’s two touchdown passes and a TD run by running back Jamal Lewis, the Browns surprised the Baltimore Ravens, 27-13. The Browns, unlike in Week 1, looked like a team on the rise. Cleveland struck paydirt early, building a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Lewis exacted some revenge against his former team by scoring what was a disputed 1-yard dive into the end zone; that rushing TD was the first given up by the Ravens all season. The Browns kept Ravens QB Steve McNair in check for most of the game, depsite the Ravens’ statistical advantage thoughout the game. McNair went 34-for 53 for 307 yards with a TD and INT, but he provided what proved to be the deciding

Cards and Ravens Playing with Fire Switching Up QB’s
Both the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens appear on the verge of playing with fire, as both teams head coaches are talking about trying the dreaded platoon situation at quarterback.  Both teams situations are vastly different, but nevertheless, trying to play two quarterbacks in the National Football League is like waking a sleeping dog - it usually leads to disaster.  The Ravens are a team that has a window to win a championship, and tinkering with the offense now is a mistake.  In Arizona, trying to sit what is supposed to be your franchise QB might help short-term, but hurt you down the road.  Ravens head coach Brian Billick spoke Monday about playing backup Kyle Boller more late in games, sort of like a relief pitcher coming in for the save.  What impressed Billick was Boller moving the Ravens down the field for the game-winning field goal vs Arizona on Sunday and his poise.  Sure Boller has been impressive over his relief duties and even late last season, but there

Should You Start Bengals Players vs. the Ravens in Week 1
Every time one of your fantasy football players goes up against the best defenses in the league there is a temptation to bench 'em. While this is understandable, it is not always your best option. This Monday night, the Bengals go against the Baltimore Ravens. This affects a number of the top fantasy football players in the league due to the Bengals explosive offense. Here are some key stats for the top Bengals players against the Ravens.Carson Palmer - 91.5 QB rating, 10 touchdowns 7 interceptions in 6 games.Rudi Johnson - 52.7 yards a game, 4 TDs in 9 games.Chad Johnson - 61 receptions...76.8 yards per game...6 TDs in 12 games.T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 55 receptions...87.1 yards per game...5 TDs in 4 games.Based on these stats, it seems very safe to play Palmer and TJ on Monday. The only players that warrant hesitation are CJ and Rudi Johnson. However, there numbers, although below par, are not terrible. If you have a deep bench at RB, you may have someone that can replace Rudi Johnson t

Ravens Rookie Figurs Hoping to Follow in Hester’s Footsteps
The Ravens kickoff game will be getting a boost in 2007, as rookie WR Yamon Figurs has been tearing it up when it comes to showing game-breaking speed in the kickoff return department. Pro Football Weekly reports that Figurs is “all but a lock” to make the teams final roster with his speed in the kickoff return department being the main reason. While he likely won’t see much playing time making catches from Steve McNair, he can be a major contributor in the special teams department, and giving the Ravens good field position will be a boost. Figurs was the teams 3rd round pick out of Kansas State, and the 24-year-old has been impressing coaches and it looks like they could have a steal with his ability on returns. Figurs along with Bears return star and now wide out Devin Hester were track stars in Florida, so he is in rare company when it comes to speed. Hester had to be in the back of the Ravens’ minds when they took Figus back on draft day. He has already b

Ravens Back on the List for Culpepper’s Services
Sources are now saying you can add another team to the list that may have some interest in former Vikings and Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper. That team is the Baltimore Ravens, who at 13-3 a season ago realize that the window of opportunity for a major Super Bowl run may be closing as 2007 closes in. The Ravens already have Steve McNair as a starter, but after McNair, who has had his share of injuries over the years, they have Kyle Boller, who is a free agent in 2008, and not all that good anyway. If the Ravens want to make sure to have a decent insurance policy behind McNair, it may behoove them to go out and grab Culpepper. Daunte himself says he is 100 percent, and is ready to fight to make a roster and again make an impact in the league. Baltimore was on the Culpepper short list sometime ago, but then when the back and forth stall began the Dolphins and Daunte, it seemed like the Ravens were off the list. Now though they may be right back on there with Culpepper being a free man and

DUI Charges against Ravens QB McNair Dropped
The DUI charge against Ravens QB Steve McNair that took place on May 9th was dropped on Tuesday, as the charge against his brother-in-law was reduced to reckless driving.  McNair was just a passenger in his brothers pickup truck when it was pulled over, but McNair was charged becuase he allowed his brother to drive the vehicle.  Jamie Cartwright, the brother-in-law, refused to take a breath test and was charged with drunken driving. He will serve two days in jail and pay a $350 fine.  “It’s good. I’m glad it’s over,” McNair said.  McNair was arrested on DUI charges once before in Nashville in 2003, when he also was charged with illegal gun possession. But a judge dismissed those charges a year later, ruling police didn’t have sufficient reason to pull over McNair.

Ravens’ Suggs in Pursuit of Extension
At yesterday’s first day of mandatory minicamp, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs felt as if he were back at home, running with the NFL’s top-ranked defense on the field and joking with his teammates off it.  It was the type of day that makes Suggs excited about this season with the Ravens and beyond.  The two-time Pro Bowl linebacker said yesterday that he is interested in signing an extension with the Ravens before he becomes one of the most sought-after free agents at the end of the season.  “I’m a Baltimore guy,” Suggs said after his first practice with the Ravens this offseason.  “I love playing in this city and for this organization.  I really don’t think about free agency.  When [the extension] gets done, it gets done.”  Last year’s explosion of salaries in free agency could be a tempting proposition for Suggs, who is scheduled to make $5 million in the final year of his contract.  As one of the league’s top pas

      Attacked by Ravens - update
I've just been assured by Mike Lee (the UK & Ireland Chief Technologist for the Commercial business unit) that what attacked Chester and I was probably Rooks or Crows. However I must disagree in that the birds involved were at least twice the size of a Crow (they were easily twenty inches in height), nor did they have the distinctive grey-white skin between the beak and eyes of a Rook. So, as far as I'm concerned, they were Ravens. However Mike believed that the "body" in question was likely to be "lunch".

      Attacked by Ravens
Yes - today I was attacked by Ravens, or rather, Chester, the family Labrador, was. I'd taken Chester to the local green (Seven Acre Green in Castle Bromwich), and having let him off his leash, was enjoying watching him chase the sticks I was occasionally throwing for him. As we passed under a low hanging cherry blossom tree, he took a great deal of interest in the corpse of a Raven at the base of the tree. After shooing him off from picking the body up, we continued around the green. I noticed that a pair of Ravens had started flying towards him and, in turn, straight down, legs outstretched, as though they meant to strike him. The larger of the pair appeared to actually hit him, but he had no mark upon him when I quickly checked he was all right. I've never seen a bird, even one as formidable as a Raven, go after such a large target. Chester is only eleven months old - but he's already quite big, and is almost fully "fleshed" out. I wondered what the Raven

Baltimore Ravens' Steve McNair Arrested for DUI. Well, not exactly DUI.
It seems that Steve Mcnair, former Tennessee Titan and current Baltimore Ravens QB, was arrested Wednesday for DUI by Consent. The only thing was, HE WASN’T DRIVING! He was a passenger while McNair’s brother-in-law was driving McNair’s car. In Tennessee, if you ride with someone who is DUI then you are arrested also for the same thing. Under Tennessee law, the owner of the vehicle can be charged if he or she is the passenger when the driver is arrested on DUI charges. The owner can be charged even if he or she is not intoxicated, Foley said. It was not clear whether McNair was impaired. I am always riding to Nashville and was not aware of such a law and I am assuming that he didn’t either. The real question is why McNair was not driving? This is the second time that Steve McNair has been arrested for DUI. (more…) Share This

      Ravens and the Colts...
Wow. I was just reading the Baltimore Sun this morning and caught an article on the Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and his thoughts of coming back to Baltimore for the AFC playoff game. As you may know, Irsays left Baltimore left with the Colts team in 1984 and moved into Indiana. Basically Mr. Irsay wants the "past to be the past' and all should be let go, as this happened a generation ago. Some fans understandably are still upset by the act the Irsay family committed. I am not a Colts fan nor grew up one, and I grew up near Washington D.C., but if one of my sports teams was taken away, only to go to another city, I'd be upset too. Later on in the morning, I read Roch Kutbako's blog and he gave his view of the Irsay family, especially on the owner, Jim's deceased father, Robert. Wow. The elder Irsay did not sound like a nice man. Well, based on Roch's opinion and what he wrote in the article, Irsay being not a caring man would be an understatement.

Quick Hits: Rodrigo and the Ravens
Rodrigo: The erstwhile pitcher for the O's is gone from the beautiful state of Maryland and now in the Rocky Mountains. All in all, he was a fairy decent pitcher, considering where he was signed from. He won 15 game a a few times and was counted on being a fairly, consistent pitcher most of the time. Then came 2006. He sucked it up - badly. I always figure it was a bad year, but his attitude due to his failures in 2006 didn't exactly endear him to anyone. Since baseball is a business, rather than a game anymore, he needed to go and a 4 million dollar reliever doesn't appeal to the O's, although we've got Baez.Rodrigo, you were cool and did your job here the best you could. Happy trails, live long and prosper in Colorado. I'm not going to diss him, as he once stood out for 30-45 minutes and signed for fans, and I got his John Hancock.Since I need to reach out and touch with my fellow bloggers, here's a roll call of the Rodrigo coverage.* Camden Chat made me laugh so hard with thei
