I’m about to reveal a little-known Candy Addict secret about myself, something that only my three non-judgmental roommates have become privy to over the course of our mulit-year cohabitation. Late at night, to quell a raging chocolate craving, I have been known to whip up a little chocolate concoction of equal parts cocoa powder, [...]
A couple weeks ago we had a wonderful cranberry peach cobbler at a local restaurant. I noticed that it also had raspberries and seemed to have more raspberries than cranberries. The peaches and raspberries were a pretty good combination. Last week I was checking out the berries at my local supermarket when I noticed some [...]
Many visitors to this review site ask why I have never reviewed Mountain Dew before especially since I have done one for Vault. The difference between Vault and Mountain Dew is that Vault is an energy soda, while Mountain Dew is simply a soda having nothing else, but caffeine. Still I have always loved the Mountain Dew flavor and always found it good for a pick me up before energy drinks came

I'm currently sitting here this morning munching on pie and coffee for 'breakfast'. Not that I'm a breakfast eater (I'm not) but it's 7:00 am and I've been up since 3:00 am so officially it would almost be brunch time for me.I made the pie yesterday and don't shoot me... but no, I didn't use a 'recipe' - but that's ok! You can still make it. Remember, I always tell my readers that recipes are o

When many people think of Virginia at its best they are thinking about mountain views, lush fields, and beautiful streams. Virginia does offer this serene luxury. However, you won’t find it until you get out of the everyday hustle of the beltway. My assumption is that if traffic didn’t create such a problem here that [...]
This is a sweet and tangy summer salad topped with a naturally fat free dressing that will have you licking the bowl. The dressing gets its thickness from the pectin in natural raspberry preserves and omits oil from the dressing all together. The fats you need to maximize nutrition from all those fruits and greens comes in the form of creamy and smooth soft chevre cheese. The sweetness of Rainier
I have been trying more and more of the so called energy waters of late. Many have been huge letdowns, which is why I was excited to see a new Hydrive had come out. In my mind, Hydrive has been the leader in the energy water segment always combining great taste with strong performance. The new Hydrive, Hydrive S Strength Energy Drink really set my expectations high. Not only is this a new Hydrive
When you want concentrated caffeine in a small shot that when’s you reach for an energy shot. When you want it in a great tasting package that’s when you grab an Ammo Up Blue Razz. I have enjoyed the Ammo line of energy drinks because of their portability and great flavor when mixing. Let’s say you have a bunch of old soda that you kind of like. It took everything I had to pick up this can of YJ Stinger. The Stacker line of energy products has not been kind to my palette or stomach. They are hard to enjoy with poor flavor and not even a great boost. That is why I reached for this can of Stinger Sugar Free Raspberry with such trepidation. It was like the yellow jacket on the can was really going to sting me (although I believe yellow

This is a seafood taco that is dressy enough to impress guests, unique enough to dazzle your foodie friends, and still fast enough to whip up when pressed for time (20 minutes or less from start to finish). Normally I leave the sweets to my sweet. But every once in a while I venture down the avenue toward a dessert. This one turned out pretty tasty. I was sort of flying by the seat of my pants, as I often do, and I managed to turn out a tart-like crisp that I could be proud of. I had planned to make this for the Royal Foodie Joust, but I had not been feeling very well over the past few weeks and

Last week we witnessed temperatures peaking at 90, and my gym is suddenly so full of people trying to get into shape for the beach that there's no doubt in my mind that summer is definitely here! And that means more sun, more barbecues and more cool and refreshing drinks. We celebrated the onset of summer with the luscious Rasperry Lassi, which is a fancy name for a smoothie or yoghurt cooler. Lassi is a traditional Indian yogurt drink which originated from the state of Punjab. Its more like a thick-shake, but with yoghurt and milk. Over time, the basic recipe underwent a makeover with addition of fruits and other flavors. Everyone is familiar with the Mango Lassi, which you must have seen on several restaurant menus. But this Raspberry Lassi is a class apart, because the tartness of the r
When you think about making desserts, fruits are one of the main ingredients most of the times. One of the easiest and most satisfying way of eating seasonal fruits is by making coulis, compote or preserves out of them, without giving up their nutritional value. Raspberry Coulis is one of the preferred toppings for many desserts. Coulis, traditionally a french recipe, is a form of thick sauce made from puréed and strained vegetables or fruits, and used as a base for other sauces or as toppings for other dishes. I have used it as a primary ingredient in my recipe for an easy Layered Dessert with Raspberry Coulis and Creme Fraiche; I also used some crushed orange biscuits to give it that cheesecake-like appeal. The recipe below can be easily modified to suit availability of seasonal fruits l

Never had a beard before!Last fall my father and stepmother decided that as part of their retired life they wanted to relocate...to Hawaii! Now this was not some decision made in haste. He had already been retired for almost two years and had spent the middle of January until the beginning of April in Hawaii for those previous two years. They had fallen in love with the islands and announced to my siblings and I after returning from their second trip that they were selling their house (and most of their belongings) and moving to Hawaii! By August of 2007, their house was sold (it was actually only on the market for 48 hours before they had a contract), many of their belongings were sold, shipped, donated, or in storage. In a five month period, they had gone from grounded and rooted in a b

As you might know, my big weakness is blush. If you make it bright and it goes on my cheeks (the ones on my face mind you), I'll probably be making a beeline for the blush. So it comes as no surprise that I absolutely adore Bobbi Brown's semi-new pot rouge in Raspberry. This is a gorgeous, wearable deep raspberry colour with blue undertones. The texture feels creamier than the other pot rouges, but that might just be my imagination. I find that the texture of Bobbi's pot rouges are different than my other cream blushes as I find the consistency thicker somehow. A really good tip for applying pot rouges or cream blushes in general is to dot it on to the apple of your cheeks and buff it in with a brush like the MAC 109. This gives me an amazing, lit from within, natural glow.As for how the co

I know I am still stuck in raspberry-chocolate mode. But hey, at least it’s not a cupcake. These are mini turnovers filled with raspberry jam and dark chocolate. The recipe is from Gourmet magazine and is super easy to put together. The recipe calls for a package of puff pastry. That’s right, from the store but you could make yours if you like. I’ll still like you. I used raspberry jam and dark chocolate, but I believe Gourmet used milk chocolate and strawberry jam? My point is you can use anything you like. Heck, you could even leave out the jam. But if you leave out the chocolate, we’re done. Ah, just kidding.I dusted the turnovers with powder sugar and served them with espresso. Yeah, I can get fancy. Oh, before I forget, you can make them any size, just make sure you
The second month of this New Year has kicked in, and we all know that February is the month to celebrate love, as people all around the world have begun to plan for the Valentine's Day. Love and chocolate go hand in hand, so its natural that I decided to practise my hand at some chocolate art to prepare for my valentine. I always wanted to make Molten Cupcakes, those sweet delights with a gooey chocalatey center that melts in your mouth! But as I was ready to go all out, I went for combining some raspberry sauce alongwith the chocolate sauce, and also try a hand at making some patterns with white chocolate. The result was this decadent dessert where the sweet chocolate was balanced perfectly by the tartness of the raspberries, giving a spoonful of heaven in every bite!Ingredients3/4 cup se

Its only December, but Bobbi Brown’s Spring 2008 collection is already generating lots of interest with its Raspberry Pink theme. I got this picture of the model off cosmoty.de which is a German site.
I love the way the pink looks on the cheeks. It looks so fresh and bright on the model. I’m not quite sure how it’ll look on me though, but its definitely got my interest, seeing as to how I really love blushes.
The eyes look quite normal Bobbi Brown neutral colours, which is usual but the lips look nice too. I don’t usually go for Bobbi Brown’s palettes because I’m not much into palettes that have lip products in them, but this new Raspberry Pink palette is definitely stoking a lot of interest in my book! It goes on sale in the USA after Christmas but I suppose we should only expect it here in Malaysia some time in February.
Here is a picture of some of the products courtesy of makeupbag.net.
The items in the palette are:

Even though you have probably already gone through this exercise in the self-evaluation phase of your career planning, it’s important to go through it one more time: know how you measure up against your competition. And this time take very specific note of your competitive differences. Don’t go along with the mistaken impression that you can sell based only on your own personal value—remember our discussion of product-driven marketing versus customer-driven marketing. Know what your specific advantage is for each specific employer. Be ready to articulate that advantage in very precise language.Success in interviewing involves being fully prepared. But it’s more than that—you must stand out in a world of plain vanilla job candidates. What particular strengths make you uncommon? What makes you unique? What is your competitive differentiation? What is your unique value proposition? Be ready to differentiate yourself. Be ready to show your “competitive advantage.” And be read

We all know that everyone loves ice cream. We all have our own preference when it comes to brand and flavor. Strauss Ice Cream is a known brand and among their promotion right now is going the organically green way.
We all have apprehensions and question in mind when it comes to green implications on products we purchase. But considering that this ice cream brand is a good one, it is worth giving it a try.
One good thing about “reviewing” organic, natural, etc items is that there is definitely no shortage of choices! I try to choose items that “average” people might actually use or consume, not going for the $100 “organic cotton sheets“, but things you might see at your grocery store or that are worth purchasing online but are not too expensive.
Today I came across Straus Family Creamery Super Premium Ice Cream in Raspberry, which states “I’m Organic” rather boldly on the package. This product is not only USDA Certified Organic, b

The first time I sank my teeth into a delicious brownie, I knew this was a bond for life!! I still remember how mych we used to bake brownies back in grad school days. It was our favourite, quick, easy and affordable dessert, and we'd top it with whip cream or strawberry syrup or plain vanilla ice cream and forget the worries and tensions of school!:) To date I cannot resist a warm fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and nuts...what a beauty, and so irrestible!! So I am surprised how I hadn't blogged about my favourite desser until now!! Well, better late than never, so here I share with you my recipe of Raspberry Brownies, and the secret ingredient is Sour Cream. Trying to cut sugar from your diet can get difficult when chocolate cravings hit. I had a sliver of time between work and class one night, and I stopped at Walgreens for a snack - the chocolate demon was attacking, and I had nothing to bolster my defenses. I headed for the small sugar-free section on the candy aisle and went through the internal debate - do I want real chocolate? Chocolate-flavored hard candy? Something new, or something tried and true?
I wanted something new, it seems. After about five minutes of staring down the sugar free chocolates, Dove’s latest caught my attention. The velvety brown bag with tantalizing raspberries and chocolate shavings drew my eyes in, and the adjectives in the candy’s name hooked me. Sugar Free Dove Rich Dark Chocolates with Raspberry Creme; not only is this chocolate dark, but also rich and infused with raspberry goodness.
The 3.40 ounce bag costs $3.49 and contains about two and a half servings. Each piece is individually wrapp

This recipe comes straight from Splenda and ever since I saw it my mouth has been watering. I'm going to make it the way the recipe is written the first time, but since I usually have a Fresca or Squirt style soda on hand (I love grapefruit soda!) I am going to use that next time. It won't be quite as sweet, but that is perfect for me as I don't like things overly sweet. This would explain (

I made this for dessert yesterday. I know more than a few of you want the scoop on how my attempt at matchmaking went. Let me just say it was a comedy of errors. I now declare this a match making free zone! The cake though, as well as the rest of the meal turned out par excellence. I gave the leftovers to my neighbor Larry tonight (with a caveat that he come for a run -- he's on a diet of sorts, and his wife would read me the riot act if she knew I'd succumbed to his request of "Anything good to eat?"). As I've mentioned before - you have been paying attention, right? - I'm not a huge fan of berry-flavored teas. Particularly not after having had the misfortune of tasting China Mist's Black Currant (hot) tea, which was perhaps one of the worst tea-experiences I've had this decade. But, I've had some decent brews so far from China Mist's line of iced tea flavors, and raspberry was next on the chopping block, so in I went. Surprisingly, it went quite well. The tea smelled wonderful right out of the box - a sweet, definite raspberry-ish aroma - and thrill of all thrills, the taste translated directly to the finished product. For someone who generally doesn't dig berry teas, the fact that I'm even remotely enthusiastic about this brew should be taken as HIGH PRAISE for this flavor. Of all the China Mist iced teas so far it may well be my favorite. Not perfect, but pretty good in a pinch. And speaking of pinches, I brewed another batch of this stuff with just a bag of loose pe

Due to a recent relocation of my place of residence I had the opportunity to go furniture shopping at IKEA. It had been a good amount of time since I’ve been there and I was thrilled to find candy waiting for me at their small food shop past the registers. There was lots of different things to choose from, but I decided finally on a package of red licorice Raspberry Boats and some Daim.
Raspberry Boats: These candies are a very bright pink/red color that matches the package that they come in. I don’t quite understand why they’re called boats, since their shape doesn’t resemble boats at all. More like a strange polygons or deformed bananas. The “boats” have a smooth feel to them in your hand and their texture in the mouth is just perfect. Not too hard, not too soft. Although, flavor wise, I have been lied to. They do not taste of raspberry! The flavor instead is “strange plant/perfumey pink taste”, if that makes any sense. Yuck. Next ti

Tahitian Noni Soft Raspberry Chews - I couldn’t help but devour the pack within minutes. I only left one for Greg to try and I almost ate it waiting on him to come home! After he tasted the ONE that I left him, he wanted to go candy shopping. These chews remind me of the Mambo candy, but they are healthier of course. The Noni chews contain 10% of pure Tahitian Noni juice from Polynesia. Polynesians have been known to use the Noni fruit for its healthful properties. Now the Noni fruit’s being used in many products by Tahitian Noni for better health. Tahitian Noni supports the immune system, delivers superior antioxidants that help rid the body of harmful free radicals, increases energy, and allows greater physical performance levels. How could something so healthy taste so good?

Yum! Yum! It's Raspberry Popover Day! It’s time to pop in some berrylicious wishes to my dear friends. Hey, did ya guys know that raspberries belong to the Rose family? Can you imagine sending a friend a bunch of raspberries instead of a dozen roses? That would actually be great!! History of RaspberriesRed Raspberries have been cultivated in Europe for over 400 years. In North America, cultivated raspberries originated from two groups: red raspberries, native to Europe, and wild red ones native to North America. By 1867 over 40 different varieties were known.Facts• There are more than 200 species of raspberries in the world.• Although very perishable, raspberries are now imported from as far away as Chile and New Zealand, thanks to air travel and climate-controlled packaging.• Raspberries are a wonderful source of vitamin C, containing 40% of a person's daily needs.• Eat only one cup of plump, juicy raspberries and you'll have one of your 5 A Day! This raspberry sorbet recipe combines fresh raspberries, orange juice, lemon juice and Grand Marnier to create an amazing sorbet you will want to keep all to yourself. Nevertheless, I did make a double batch for a potluck at work several years ago and received many compliments and an empty container.
Each ingredient in this recipe has a job to do. The lemon juice promotes the taste of freshness while the orange juice softens the tartness of the raspberries. To finish it off, the Grand Marnier adds complexity to the finish while keeping the sorbet on the soft side in the freezer. This is definitely the best raspberry sorbet I have ever had.
This recipe is based heavily on the raspberry sorbet recipe from Lou Seibert Pappas’ book, Sorbets and Ice Creams: and Other Frozen Confections. I highly recommend this book; all the recipes have ingredient lists you could count on one hand, with the word “fresh” preceding nearly every ingredient. I have slightly upped the Grand Mar

Another day, another raspberry and chocolate Easter candy, this time from the folks at Cadbury. I picked this bunny up at the local Walgreen’s while trying to find another Raspberry Whip Egg that I reviewed yesterday. The Easter candy selection at the store is very limited, and this was the closest thing I could find.
While the packaging says that it has a creme center, it is in fact more like a liquidy-gel. There was nothing creme about it. Expecting a creme center, I took a big bite out of the bunny and was surprised at how liquidy it was. It reminded me of the old Chewels gum which I used to enjoy. Overall, this bunny is very good. The dark chocolate was smooth and not too bitter, and the raspberry center, while liquidy, was still very delicious.

I normally don’t eat Russell Stover brand chocolate, and usually skip to something by Hershey or Reese’s. The fact that this product contained such an enticing ingredient as “Raspberry Whip”, was enough for me to forego my usual Snickers.
I picked this up while on the way home from a movie convention (yes, I have interests outside of candy) and after walking around all day without eating, and facing an hour drive home, I stopped at a Walgreen’s on the way home to get a drink and saw these.
The raspberry is absolutely delicious. Raspberry and chocolate are probably my favorite candy combination and the raspberry whip was excellent, soft, very flavorful, and almost melts on your tongue. The chocolate on the other hand, was nothing special, as seems to always be the case with Russell Stover chocolate. It also seems to end up with these tiny, hard portions, that almost ruin the entire candy.
My advice to you: buy these eggs, open them up, and eat the raspberr
Everyone in this house loves fresh raspberries. They are eaten by the handful and are in the refrigerator more often than not. There is something about rusticity in food which always attracts me, like rustic charm of puff pastry and I'm a total devotee of it:) The pre-rolled puff pastry in my freezer which thaws out so swiftly is one of my favourites. You may have to pay little for the privilege of having your own pastry rolled for you. But I'm not complaining as long as it has the perfect thickness for making tarts or pies of all shapes and sizes with all kind of fillings whether sweet or savoury. This weekend when we got a big packet of raspberries from weekend farmer's market, which were the best one I had it in years. They were juicy, sweet with a hint of tanginess. Although I got them for making crumble I ended up stuffing in puff pastry which was perfect for our lazy Sunday. They were crunchy with sticky-syrupy fillings. And best thing is they require very less preparation time. This is my entry for Trupti's Little Chef's in Kitchen (err… am I late?).
