So I just read that today is Pharrell’s 35th birthday. This dude is 35 years old? Damn. This got me thinking most of these rappers that the kids look up to are old as funk. Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang, are damn near 50 years old. Dip Set, Kanye, 50 Cent, Rick Ross, and Common are [...]
THE POINT I’M TRYING TO MAKE HERE IS THIS: RAPPERS ARE SCARED TO BE OPEN AND SHARE THEIR REAL LIFE, REAL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS WITH THE FANS AND/OR THE WORLD. THEY GOT SO MANY SKELETONS IN THE...

Acting as a guest host on New York’s Power 105 fm, 50 Cent had this to say about established artists,
“A lot of artists actually ain’t rapping like they were when they first started.”
Yeah we know Fifty, we know. I guess it’s the power of a dollar that has got to them.
By Ben RosarioFinding the tightest beats when you are a rapper or producer working from your own home studio can be a challenge. Do you search through the thousands of sites promising royalty-free beats that dudes are making in their basements with tin cans and cheap synthesizers? Or do you shell out big bucks in the hopes that you will stumble upon that tight beat that will get you radio play TODAY? But if it fails, watch out 'cuz you might go broke.Luckily, there is a happy medium I have found to work by providing me with a plethora of beats and instrumentals that fit the mood of the kinds of songs I like to write (mostly dark, twisted lyrics with dark humor or stories).Google is a wanna-be rapper's best friend. By using the search engines, I have been able to stumble upon a few sites promising beats that work with my style. Take some time to look for "instrumentals", "beats", and long-tail keywords such as "how to create songs at home" to really zero in on what you want, which is:
On June 30, 2007 the rapper Michael “Trick” George, just 25 years old, was shot in the head and chest as he got out of his car. His funeral was held last week. His finance was the first to find him. There has been a lot of violence in his east Toronto neighbourhood and George wasn’t the first to die as a result. So far, the killer hasn’t been found.
George performed hip hop music with the band LowLife. 13 white doves were released after the funeral that was held at Westney Heights Baptist Church. Jason “Omega” Daley, also a part of the band Lowlife, says he’ll write a song to reflect his anger and feelings about his friend’s death.
His fiance Chanel Chambers told how George proposed to her last Christmas. She woke up one morning to find a beautiful wedding ring on her finger. How romantic and how tragic.
This isn't a list concerned with who was the best or the greatest or who has the most swagger or who had a clothing line first. This is simply a list of the most innovative MCs in hip hop history. The dudes before the dudes.
Five-O is having a field day right now! Just last night rappers Ja Rule & Lil' Wayne were caught ridin' dirrrty. Both rappers were both arrested for weapons possession last night in separate incidents and charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Sohh reports,Ja Rule and two associates, were arrested around 10:37 p.m. on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York, for speeding. A .40 caliber pistol was found inside the vehicle.Lil' Wayne was arrested shortly after his performance at the Beacon Theater. Police say they saw the New Orleans rapper and an acquaintance, smoking marijuana near 61st Street and Columbus Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Police discovered a .40 caliber pistol. Is it a coincidence Lil'Wayne is featured on Ja Rule's lates single entilted "Uh Oh"...this smells like a publicity stunt. Another rapper busted for some nonsense is Lil' Flip. According to published reports Houston rapper LiL Flip has been charged with credit card abuse. WTF?! Guess his dough was run
After the concert for Diana, an after-party was held where Diddy & Kanye enjoyed a photo-op and some 1-on-1 time with British royalty Princes William and Harry. Greeting each other the traditional way...a pound for pound. They even exchanged some style tips...
Despite some obvious similarities to the Wu-tang Clan, D12 really didn’t warrant comparison to the 9 man strong team as individuals.
If Detroit emcees were to band together and do a Wu tribute album (purely hypothetical) or form a parallel version of the group, this is how they would form together (like Voltron!).
RZA - The ring leader - Has to be none other than J Dilla. Aside from fulfilling both emcee/producer capabilities, it’s the actual similarity in the quality of production and the sometimes lacklustre emceeing (see RZA on Ras Kass’ “The End”) that makes this an obvious choice.
GZA - The wise leader - Another easy one - Less scientific but Phat Kat has been putting in work since the days of 1st Down with his old running mate droppin’ knowledge and schooling cats.
Method Man - The star - Stole the spotlight on the initial album without necessarily knowing he would (”M-E-T-H-O-D MAN”). That would be Obie Trice. Through all the

Farmington Connecticut might be the last place to find a rappers’ mansion, but find one you can. A sprawling 52-room, 48,000 square foot estate is up for sale- after having been renovated by the ’singer’ 50 cent.
The home was once owned by notorious celebrity boxer/rapist Mike Tyson. In a move that had real estate investors everywhere shuddering, 50 cent paid $4.1 million for the property in September 2003, and then spent another $6 million renovating it.
Curt Clemens, owner of Century 21 Clemens & Sons in Hartford, was quoted as saying, “He’s put a lot into it, and it’s all very tasteful, except the stripper poles.”
You forgot to mention the helicopter pad, Curt.

The following is a statement from Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis on behalf of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network:
The theme of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) is “Taking Back Responsibility.” We are consistent in our strong affirmation, defense, and protection of the First Amendment right of free speech and artistic expression. We have recently been involved in a process of dialogue with recording and broadcast industry executives about issues concerning corporate social responsibility.
It is important to re-emphasize that our internal discussions with industry leaders are not about censorship. Our discussions are about the corporate social responsibility of the industry to voluntarily show respect to African Americans and other people of color, African American women and to all women in lyrics and images.
HSAN reaffirms, therefore, that there should not be any government regulation or public policy that should ever viola
FLORENCE, S.C. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) on Friday questioned the way some rappers talk about women in songs, saying the lyrics are similar to the derogatory language used by embattled radio host Don Imus.
They are “degrading their sisters. That doesn’t inspire me,” Obama said of some hip-hop artists when a man in a crowd of about 1,000 questioned him. The Illinois senator was responding to a question of what inspired him, and said God and civil rights activists.
Earlier this week, Obama criticized Imus, who was fired Thursday for labeling the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos.”
“I do think we’ve seen a coarsening of the culture,” Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press after the town hall meeting. As a constitutional lawyer, Obama said he was a free speech advocate.
“But just because you can say something doesn’t mean you should say someth

I am fired up right now. I just read this pile of steaming smelly hypocritical horse shit by Snoop Dogg. This is the *perfect* example of "Do as I say not as I do". Rappers are known almost universally for their lyrics that are incredibly degrading to women in general and black women in particular. Even in this interview where he's insisting that what rappers say is not the same as what Imus said he's still horribly insulting to women. "It's a completely different scenario," said Snoop, barking over the phone from a hotel room in L.A. "[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about ho's that's in the 'hood that ain't doing sh--, that's trying to get a n---a for his money. These are two separate things.Does that make even the slightest bit of sense? It's ok to insult and degrade women "in da hood" but not women in college? I wonder how the women t

*Former MTV producer Terrance Dean has written a new memoir about his life as a gay, black man and his dating exploits within the entertainment industry.
"Hiding in Hip-Hop: Confessions of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry" - sold to Atria last week, according to Publishers Marketplace - is said to cover "the author's life as a closeted homosexual working in the film and music industry and his relationships with other closeted homosexuals—film stars, rap artists, and music producers"Dean does not name names in his book, which Atria plans to release in 2008. However, a spokeswoman for the publisher said Dean's descriptions of the closeted men will be quite obvious. It's a no-holds-barred look at Hollywood and hip-hop and who's living on the down-low."
