The ancient landscape of Western MacDonnell Ranges stretch west from the Central Australian outback town of Alice Springs for over 200 kilometres, forming a rugged red barrier across the vast desert plains of Central Australia. The ranges hold a wealth of spectacular natural features and landscapes, all within an easy hour or two from Alice Springs by car.The long parallel ridges of the Western Ma
Looks like yesterday's rally threw markets into more prolonged sideways trading ranges, rather than take them another leg down. The boundaries for a breakout remain unchanged from before; just a second band of resistance (a new neckline) was added at November highs to create a double/triple(?) bottom with yesterday's low and the late (and early) October low(s). It's still anyone's game with the Su

Everyone has one range which they are most skilled at and which they prefer there fighting to take place. Boxers obviously favour punching ranges, Thai boxers work well in the clinch, Teakwondo fighters nearly always try and stay within kicking range and grapplers like taking the fight to the floor.

Knowing the importance of trading trends and ranges in Forex trading is very important. If you are thinking of trading in the Forex market, be sure you know what these terms mean and their implications.

It helps to periodically remind ourselves how settlement ranges are really determined. For the purposes of this example please let me use the terms “Buyer” and “Seller.” However, the following example applies equally well to say, an IT manager negotiating with a manufacturing line manager, or one divisional manager negotiating with another divisional manager.

Thanks to LifeHacker for the answer to this one. Now you can reference a column by its header or label. This is wonderful and had more than a few of my end users jumping for joy! It works in OpenOffice as well as most Pc versions and on the Mac!While you're writing formulas in Excel, you can refer to cell ranges not only by hard-to-read row and column numbers and letters but by label. So instead of totaling a column using =SUM(B2:B5), you can write the formula =SUM('Widgets Cranked'). After I mentioned this is a nice feature in Apple's new spreadsheet application Numbers '08, reader Dustin pointed out that it's available in Excel as well, just not turned on by default. To enable it, in the Tools>Options dialog, the Calculation tab, check off "Accept labels in formulas." Thanks, Dustin![Via LifeHacker]Check out our RSS feed.

Most players will raise preflop with a large percentage of their hands to 3 times the big blind from the button in heads-up tournament no limit hold’em. Responding to these raises through the resteal is the key to playing winning heads-up poker with a short stack at the end of SNG’s. With say, 15 to 25 times the big blind facing a 3x raise, there’s always the option of calling, but to me an aggressive resteal-based strategy is probably more effective as long as the stacks are not too deep, particularly in a SNG where you don’t usually have great reads and are probably playing many tables at once. Especially since most players fold to your resteals too often anyway, I think it’s worth it to push very small edges through restealing unless you are certain that your opponent is just awful after the flop (and many are).
By the way, facing a 3x raise with a stack of 15 to 25 times the big blind, I hope nobody who has read any of the material on this site actuall

Click for 477kb imageThis catchment of water on Siam Station is known as Government Dam. During the summer it wasn't uncommon for us kids to swim in this dam with a blown up tyre tube to keep afloat and yes there was adult supervision around at the time. I still remember the slime on the edge of the dam squishing through my toes. I now cringe at the thought of that goo wondering what was in it. Click for a 475kb imageOn Saturday my brother and his wife as well as Malcolm and myself headed off for a trip down memory lane in the Gawler Ranges where we spent quite a bit of our childhood growing up. Other members of the family also had worked in the Gawler Rangers in the past over many years. As you can see from these images the day was rather damp with rain often obscuring the far distances. This had us wondering if we should have been making this journey because this trip consisted of two nights of roughing it with tents in the bush not far from the road we traveled on.Click for a 461kb imageI have always had a great love of the colours in the bush and after good rains at an earlier time the area was looking lush and vibrant.Click for a 558kb imageThis catchment to the main dam near the homestead of Siam Station had memories flooding back of the times as a kid laying heshen bags at the edge of the dam to catch frogs and tadpoles.Strangely enough my siblings and myself never ev

In response to Myturn2raise’s comments, as well as the desire to ensure that this site is the best available resource for short stack strategy, I decided to walk to the library, download SNG Wizard, and take another look at the ranges for 10bb pushing in late position. Man, was I surprised!
I gave hero a 10bb stack, with everyone else having more, and changed the setting from $ mode to chip equity mode, since in cash games, chip equity equals dollar equity, while SNG Wizard was originally designed for SNG’s. From there it’s simply plug in opponent ranges and see what comes out. There is however, one flaw in these calculations that I don’t like, that being the fact that there is no rake. In reality the ranges are going to be a little tighter than this given that you lose 5% of the pot when called.
Anyway let’s start with SB vs. BB, 9.5bb left after posting the small:
BB Call Range 28% or less: Push with any two cards
30%: Top 83%
35%: Top 61%
40%: 50%
50%:
The last article talked about adjusting your pushing ranges based on your opponents’ calling tendencies. But there are other things one must consider in forming a winning SNG strategy. As you know, in a SNG you are constantly balancing the need to increase your chipstack with the goal of surviving to the end and grabbing at least some share of the prize money. Usually the two are related, but sometimes simply surviving can be so profitable that you should turn down the chance to gain chips in order to ensure doing so. Most of these types of situations come from one of your opponents having a stack that is very short.
Consider the following hand. At a four handed table, UTG has 100 chips, button has 400, you are the small blind with 3000, and BB has 3500 chips with the blinds at 200/400. If the first two players fold, you are in a spot where with normal stacks you should move in with almost any two cards. But notice the situation here. UTG is about to bust out, and button will be

My latest work in progress is of a painting I am doing of the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, in Central Australia. The Eastern Macs are the range of mountains situated on the eastern (surprise surprise) side of Alice Springs and are less visited but prettier than the more well known Western MacDonnell Ranges.
The reference picture was taken very early in the morning near Corroboree Rock and the morning sun cast strong shadows in the valleys of the mountain range, which I hope to portray realistically. I am thinking about adding some people to this painting, a small party or couple of bushwalkers, using photos of my safari party, but I'll have to see how the painting pans out first.
The native red hops in Central Flinders Ranges are always a pleasure to behold for visitors to the area. The soil is so red and with the added blush of these delightful shrubs the mountain sides can look like a mass of hot colour.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: native hops, central flinders ranges, flinders ranges, central flinders
It's been a while since we updated our blog and the credit crunch has been to blame! It seems that as money has become tighter people are increasingly looking for quality AND value, that inevitably leads them to us and we have been extraordinarily busy for the past few months.
