When it comes to wrestling techniques in MMA, there are probably not many people as good as Randy Couture in applying them. He has proven time and time again, that wrestling can be more than useful even in an environment where strikes are thrown.
There are lots of Randy Couture training videos on the Internet. All of which are useful and I advise you to check them out when you have the chance.

Big props to Last Emperor from Sherdog. Yesterday I reported about this interview and Couture's comments on his willingness to come back to the UFC if they sign Fedor. On the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show Randy Couture stated that he would be willing to go back to the UFC if they sign, now free agent Fedor Emelianenko. Couture also stated that if he did go back to the UFC that it wouldn't be under his current contract. He said a new contract would have to be worked out. Couture has stated many times that Fedor is the only fight he wants. The current interim heavyweight champion is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Dana White has offered that fight to Couture on more than one occasion, but its not likely that Couture would take that fight considering his statements about only wanting to fight Fedor in the past. In an interview on the Scott Ferrell show Wednesday Kurt Angle stated that he would like his first MMA match to be against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. Now I've read reports on wrestling sites about this, but no MMA site seems to be reporting that Kurt Angle all but confirmed that the fight was already in the works and it will be in Los Angeles later this year. He wouldn't confirm who was going to promote the fight, but stated that it was neither the UFC nor Mark Cuban. He also stated that it was unlikely that he himself would win the fight. Is this just Kurt Angle blowing smoke up our butt again? I don't know, but if he is Randy Couture can't be happy about it because the way he was talking was as if the fight has already been agreed upon.Ultimate MMA News and Articles for your r
According to Adam Swift from mmapayout.com and sherdog contributor, Randy Couture has a contract with Mark Cuban's HDNET Fights. Here is the meat of the article.New details of the action have been revealed in the complaint obtained by Sherdog.com. According to the filing, HDNet Fights has entered into a contract with Couture that is scheduled to commence upon the expiration of his Zuffa promotional agreement. At that time, the company plans to promote a fight between Couture and Fedor Emelianenko in Dallas, assuming terms can be reached with the highly regarded Russian heavyweight. The existence of an actual contract between HDNet Fights and Couture is believed to be key to the company's action in Texas. Without it, it is unlikely that the court would find an actual controversy ripe for
Randy Couture was coming off a loss to Ricco Rodriguez coming in to this fight with the Iceman. While Liddell hadn't lost a fight in over 3 years and was steamrolling anyone in his way. To most in the MMA world the outcome of this fight was a foregone conclusion, but thats why they actually get in the cage and fight!By the way, I have fixed Liddell vs Rampage 1 and Liddell vs Tito Ortiz 2, enjoy.Online Videos by Veoh.comUltimate MMA videos for your viewing pleasure. Randy Couture holds a press conference at Xtreme Couture about his resignation from the UFC. Randy talks about how he feels that he was mistreated and how he tried to resolve the issue. He stated that he wasn’t “trying to burn down the house”, he was trying to leave without making a stink. Randy talks about how he was pissed that Fedor was offered more in a signing bonus than Randy has ever been paid for a fight and he’s been there for over 10 years. It clear that a number of things all added up for Randy. Watch the interview to hear all about it.
Crawford Grimsley, Cage Fighting Championship spokesperson has announced that the CFC has offered to put up a $3 million purse to host the Pay-Per-View (PPV) fight event of Randy Couture vs Fedor Emelianenko. Each fighter is guaranteed to take home 1 million dollars and the winner will take home an additional $1 Million. Here’s more about the topic from the official press release:
“Grimsley, a former heavyweight boxer who went 12 rounds with big George Foreman for the world title in 1996 said, “I don’t know who set up the current MMA system of sanctioning bodies locking fighters into exclusive long term contracts. I do know who is out to change this system though, we are, the CFC. We are not going to try to reinvent the wheel, but we would like to add a little of the business model that professional boxing has adopted for decades. Can you imagine if professional boxing would not allow champion to fight champi
UFC.com currently has an article titled “Dana White on the Retirement of Randy Couture” that addresses yesterday’s news of Randy Couture’s resignation from the UFC. Some important topics are addressed, here are the highlights, visit UFC.com for the full details:
Were you surprised when the fax came into your office with Randy Couture’s resignation?
Dana White – No, I wasn’t surprised. I met with Randy several weeks ago and he said that the only thing he had left to prove in his career and the only challenge left out there for him was Fedor…
So this wasn’t a surprise, but were you at least surprised at the way he went about it, via fax?
DW – He is shooting a movie right now in South Africa, but yes, I am very surprised by the way he did it. I consider Randy Couture a friend and still do. He hooked up with some Hollywood agent that I bitch slapped about a month ago, and these Hollywood agents are parasites, so unfortunately this guy is probably
Hey guys, Sherdog has some exclusive comments from Randy and I wanted everyone to see it. Heres a snippet."The motivation for the decision is two-fold," he continued. "I know Fedor (Emelianenko) just signed with another organization and that's the only real fight that makes sense for me at 44 years old as the heavyweight champion of the UFC. That's the fight I wanted and if that can't happen it doesn't make sense for me to compete with all these other guys. And then obviously that's not going to happen now. And, two, I'm tired of being taken advantage of, played as the nice guy and basically swimming against the current with the management of the UFC. I have a lot of other things going on in my life that I'm doing just fine with. I don't need the problems. I don't feel like I get the respect I deserve from the organization, and that's motivation No. 2 for the letter of resignation that was sent today." While listening to the Bubba the Lovesponge Show, I heard some shocking news. It was announced that current UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has resigned from the UFC. Fox news and the Fight Network have confirmed this news. According to the reports, while working on a film in South Africa, Randy sent a letter of resignation to UFC president Dana White. Fight Network reports that Randy stated:
“I’m tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since he’s now signed with another organization, I feel like it’s time to resign and focus on my other endeavors.”
Brian Knapp of TheFightNetwork made the announcement now that Couture has quit the UFC.
A few quotes from the article:
“I appreciate this opportunity the sport of MMA and the UFC has given me,” the UFC Hall-of-Famer said. “However, I’m tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at [...]

After dominating Gabriel Gonzaga, Randy Couture is looking into the future. Randy states that most likely the best heavyweight fighter around is Fedor Emelianenko and he’s ready for him. Some say it’s “calling Fedor out”, others would say Randy’s just confident with himself. You be the judge.

Well first I need to apologize to all my canadien readers as I doubted the 2 UFC 74 canadien fighters GSP and Patrick Cote. I could tell I was in trouble with the GSP prediction right when he came out, he was as ready as Ive ever seen him and Koscheck looked nervous. I didn't expect GSP to totally dominate the wrestling of this match, I guess when Koscheck said he was the best wrestler in MMA he might of meant best American wrestler because the canadien just dominated him. I was impressed with Koscheck's stand-up though. Koscheck quotes (might not be 100% accurate) before the fight that were apparently absolutely ridiculous "Im gonna knock him out within 2 minutes of the first round" Haha and "He's gonna take me down,Josh Koscheck, thats my world" even funnier. Congrats to Patrick Cote who landed a wicked right hand and proceded to stop Kendall Grove with Ground and Pound. The Roger Huerta vs Alberto Crane fight was pretty entertaining as we saw Huerta looking at himself on the
Randy Couture is quite an impressive UFC fighter. His can be categorized as a Greco-Roman wrestler, a folkstyle wrestler and a mixed martial arts fighter. At the moment he is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion and he is the only one that actually held both the light heavyweight and heavyweight division championships in the UFC. There are a lot of "only" in this fighter's career as you might know. Randy Couture is also the only five-time champion in UFC history and his inclusion in the UFC Hall of Fame came before he won a new title, making him the only athlete to win the UFC heavyweight title after the induction in the Hall of Fame.Randy Couture is quite old for UFC at 44 years but his style is very effective. Randy is known as a clinch-fighter but we can say his best attacks come from the fact that he uses a "ground and pound" assault. This basically means that he uses his wrestling technique to ground the opponent, assumes a top position and starts strikin
Forty-four year old Randy Couture withholds his heavyweight championship by defeating Gabriel Gonzaga, a man who knocked out Mirko CroCop.Herb Dean had to stop the fight after Randy Couture got into Gonzaga’s half-guard and rained down punches. He is now a six-time champion. We should all feel inspired. Consider this an open thread.

In a recent interview by Boston Herald / Improper Bostonian, Dana White was asked about the upcoming Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga Fight. He commented
“I’m worried about Randy, because this guy is so nasty,” White said of Gonzaga. “He’s so powerful and he has so many weapons.”
UFC VP Craig Borsari further states
“There’s a scene in there [UFC Countdown] where Gabriel grabs an Everlast heavybag and body locks it and throws it like he’s slamming it, and the top of the bag explodes. I mean, all the (expletive) comes flying out of the bag. We have to blur out the Everlast logo because they’re not going to like that when he crushes their bag. “This guy’s an animal. He’s the real deal.”
Dana additionally talks about UFC reaching the East Coast - this October the UFC will come to the one and only Brick City - Newark, NJ, at the new home of the NJ Devils Prudential Center.

Gabriel Gonzaga and Randy Couture were recently interviewed on ESPN. They sat side by side on a couch and talked about past fights, skills, and their upcoming UFC 74 card. The interviewer asks the inevitable question while both are sitting side by side; “who’s going to win the fight?” He first asks Randy this question, followed by Gabriel - they both take the neutral route. The video can be watched below.
The lines are moving further in the direction of Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga (video) being a slight favorite over the current Heavyweight Champion, Randy "The Natural" Couture (video). The best odds on Gonzaga are currently -125 at Sportsbook.com and +110 at Bookmaker.com for Couture. It's not often the reigning champion is considered the dog by all of the books and in this case I think it's exactly where Randy wants to be.Gabriel Gonzaga (8-1) moved quietly through his early MMA and UFC fights, until the big bang with Cro Cop. The moment he dropped Mirko with an ironic head kick, he became the most dangerous Heavyweight alive.....At least in the minds of some. His first real test in an MMA ring occurred in 2003 when he fought Fabricio Werdum. Gonzaga was able to control that fight on the ground during the first half, unfortunately by the third round he was gassed and was pounded out by Werdum. Werdum has only to wins by TKO and it's hard to imagine him knocking anyone out throwing so ma
I’m not sure what this chick was thinking, but a radio host named Neveen from radio playhouse wanted Randy Couture to choke her out! I guess she was looking for some PR.. well you got what you wanted.. here’s a picture of Neeven, her myspace page and the video below.

Tonight I watched one of the greatest sporting moments I have ever seen.....EVER Randy Couture, the 43 year old 2 time heavyweight and 1 time light heavyweight champion, came out of retirement, one year after hanging up his gloves to go toe to toe in the octogon once again. His opponent was the reigning champion Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia, the strong favorite to win and put the old man 13 years his senior back into retirement. As the match got under way, the size difference was obvious for all to see, Couture gave a good half foot and over 40 pounds to his opponent, but within the first few moments BOOM, couture struck and knocked Sylvia on his ass! The "fight" that ensued saw Couture truly dominated his larger opponent by using his agility to dodge the akward punches slung by Sylvia, and used his superior clinch and wrestling skills to get the big man on the ground. The match was a perfect example of "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail" Randy had spent the last few months training with
