Fullerton Railroad Days are a fun family event. A weekend of free train exhibits and tours, including restored vintage rail cars and a modern locomotive. A special display from Disneyland will be part of their "Year of a Million Dreams". We went to the Irvine Regional Park last night to ride the Christmas Train - IT WAS SO FUN!!When we got there it was after dark - and I mean d-a-r-k! Then all of a sudden you see this beautiful glow off in the distance. When we got to the entry gate we were very happy to see that the gates were open and there was no charge for entrance!Note to you all: You can avoid the $4.00 - $5.00 entry fee by going after 5:00 p.m.So we parked and I'm telling you, it was that same feeling you get when you were little and you pulled up to Disneyland. It used to be a lot easier to find railroad ties than it used to be. The railroad companies would replace them and you could pick up the old ones for free. Now that people are using them in landscaping you can’t find them so easily anymore. There big and heavy and they last forever. This makes them more than suitable for landscaping. Pacific Wood Preserving Companies sells railroad ties as well as other treated lumber for landscaping and any other need that you may have. I don’t have a need for landscaping timbers at the moment or any other kind of treated lumber since most of the work we have done outside is rock, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t need them eventually.
A new document has revealed that Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick is ignoring recommendations from the real state budget experts in continuing to deny funding for the Texas State Railroad:
At issue is about $2 million for the railroad that the Legislature approved during this year’s session but that the Legislative Budget Board, on which Craddick holds a key position, continues to block. The money is to be matched with $10 million in federal funds.
“This doesn’t pass the fairness test,” said state Rep. Byron Cook, the Corsicana Republican who sponsored the railroad legislation. Cook was also one of Craddick’s most outspoken critics this year.
Cook said the funding delay is a subversion of the will of the Texas House and Senate.
“If this railroad was in Midland, they probably would have added another 100 miles of track right now,” Cook said. “There is no question that what is being done is not being done in the best interest of Texas.
