      Raiders 2008 Draft

NFL Draft Day Entertainment: Look No Further Than the Oakland Raiders
When I learned about this contest, I was pretty sure I was going to write a column about Matt Ryan dropping into the teens while pretending to not be counting every dollar he’s losing as the hours crawl by. But I figured Ryan was the obvious selection to slip now that the Dolphins have apparently decided on Jake Long, so it probably wouldn’t be an original idea. Then I thought about writing something discussing the Detroit Lions potentially drafting another wide receiver, but I figured that one would be done a few times over by a few other people. I gave some thought to writing about how entertaining it was to have a 16-0 team picking in the top-10, making a mockery out of an NFL system that actually stripped them of their own first round draft pick. But I assumed some othe

      Raiders of Solo's lost art
Indonesia's biggest art scam snared royals and business tycoons, but with the mysterious death of the archaeologist-detective, no one wants to unearth the masterminds. Mark Forbes and Karuni Rompies report. The museum's relics came from the grand Hindu and Buddhist empires that dominated the region before the coming of Islam - and the collections of Solo's King Pakubuwono XIII, who sits at the apex of Indonesian royalty. In recent years the once-powerful Surakarta Kraton - the ancient name for Solo's palace - has fallen on lean times. The royal family divided after the death of the last king, with rival princes claiming the throne. King Pakubuwono was then accused of selling sacred relics to maintain a lavish lifestyle, an accusation vehemently denied. But Hugo Kreijger, the former Christie

Cypress Hill. Stoned Raiders. Part 3.
One of the band's most striking aspects is B-Real's exaggeratedly high-pitched nasal vocals, which fits and emphasizes the lyrics' concentration on parodied gangster stories.Sen Dog's lyrics are progressively more violent and tend to involve fewer rhyme schemes compared with B-Real's. In addition, as the style is today, some words are emphasized by adding a background voice to say them, however, Sen Dog's emphases are always more prominent, mostly shouted alongside with the rapping. The sound and groove of their music, produced by Muggs, is also notable for its influence and stoned aesthetic; with its bass-heavy rhythms and odd sample loops ("Insane in the Brain" is notable for having a horse neigh looped in its chorus), it carries a psychedelic value, which lessened in the later albums. The

      Raiders 2007 (Partidos 9-12)
Daunte Culpepper

Are you Kidding Me? Raiders Claim They will Kick to Hester
This is why the Oakland Raiders continue to be a laughing stock among the rest of the National Football League. Sunday they play host to the struggling Chicago Bears, a team that has not been able to find it’s stride pretty much throughout all of the 2007 season, and really have struggled on both sides of the ball. There is one player on the Bears that continues to be one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL, and that is kick returner Devin Hester. This season Hester has been his usual disruptive self, taking back three returns already this season for scores, and putting up close to 25 yards per kickoff return and 15 yards per punt return. So what will the Raiders do to take Hester out of the game-plan Sunday? Kick to him. Yes, the Raiders, a team that evidently has yet to watch game film on Hester, announced on Wendesday that instead of doing what other teams that have beaten the Bears in 2007 have done, they will do the complete opposite - give Hester a chance. On Sunday, Jordan ran once in the first half and four times in all, for 10 yards. By comparison, Fargas rushed 12 times in the first half and 23 times overall, for 104 yards. Chiefs Continue Win Streak Over Raiders 12-10
In a defensive AFC West showdown, Chiefs RB Larry Johnson was enough as Kansas City beat the Raiders in Oakland 12-10 to continue their dominance over the Silver and Black. Johnson ran for 112 yards and scored the deciding TD early in the 4th quarter to go up 12-7. Oakland had a last shot, as they got the ball down 12-10 with 1:38 left. After driving to their 44, Daunte Culpepper threw a pick to Jason Page to end the Raiders last threat. Kansas City improves to 4-3 on the season, dropping the Raiders to 2-4. Damon Huard went 16-for-31 for KC, with 177 yards. Culpepper was 18-for-29 for 228 yards with a TD and a pick. Neither team did all that much on offense, as the Raiders went for just 268 total yards, while the Chiefs went for 290 yards. The big stat was that Oakland was only able to rush for 55 yards, as the Chiefs held LaMont Jordan to 29 yards on 11 carries. No Decision on Who the Raiders Will Start First at QB
While the Raiders await the arrival of their first round draft choice and the number one pick in the draft - QB JaMarcus Russell, the team is still not ready to make a choice on who will be the first to line up under center Saturday night vs the Cardinals in their preseason opener.  The choices are newly signed QB Daunte Culpepper, former Lions QB Josh McCown, or sometime starter last season - Andrew Walter. The team did release a depth chart on Tuesday, and all three QB’s are listed together, meaning that for now, no chocie has been made as to who will take the first snaps against Arizona.  As for Russell, he sits back at his mother’s house in Mobile, Alabama, as his holdout from the Raiders becomes uglier and uglier.  The two sides are still not close, and as of now, there are rumblings that he won’t wear the silver and black until sometime in September, already into the regular season. Raiders 2007 (Ultimos Ajustes)
Raiders Expected to Sign Culpepper
A reported newspaper said the Oakland Raiders will sign free agent and former Viking and Dolphin QB Daunte Culpepper to a one-year deal, according to a source known with the situation.  This would be a good move for the Raiders because as I stated in Saturday's July 28 article, "Raiders QB Russell to start Week 1?" this team does not have a "worthy" starting QB to go in there for Russell no matter how long he holds out. Now they do, as they are expected to pick up the former Central Florida QB Culpepper. Culpepper should be the favorite to be under center against Detroit at home for Week 1. Oakland has been pleased with his workouts and so far he is a "go" in terms of his questioned, and often speculated health. Culpepper has a strong arm and still has some mobility left in him. He is a major upgrade over McCown and Walter. He should be able to keep the seat warm for Russell when he is ready to start. Culpepper will be a mentor for Russell, as they share a similar style

Raiders QB Russell to Start Week 1?
There is dissension in Cali among Oakland's coaching staff and personnel on how to properly utilize LSU rookie QB JaMarcus Russell. One side thinks Russell needs time to learn the in's and out's of the NFL and that he should sit behind veterans Andrew Walter and Josh McCown. The other side thinks Russell should start right away if he shows in training camp that he can handle the position. Look for this internal difference in opinion to continue until the start of the regular season, with Owner Al Davis likely having the final say. Why he should Start: Russell should start right away because the Oakland Raiders have no other QB worthy enough to start over him. McCown and Walter are decent backups at best; they cannot even hold his cleats, let alone the starting job. They should not even be considered to start a single NFL game in their entire careers, they should be as far away from the field as possible holding the clipboard and the headset calling out signals as "spectators.â

But apparently, Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin wanted no parts of Coo
