"This tutorial shows how to use a Google Docs spreadsheet as an RSS Feed reader (see example). You can aggregate news feeds from different sources into one spreadsheet (similar to alltop or popurls or addictomatic) and then publish it as a web page. If you have a blog, you can use the same trick to embed RSS feeds in web pages. The Google Docs approach is preferred over Flash or Javascript widge

Defining a best in this category is tough as different users have very different priorities. For some users, display readability and easy subscription is everything while to others, the level of blog integration is the most important attribute.I fall firmly in the first category. To me RSS is just another information source not a way of life.Indeed the most important feature in a reader to me is the ability to easily click on a number of interesting items from an integrated display and have a stacked series of Windows relating to the items open in a browser for later reading. That way I can scan quickly for items of interest but read the items at my leisure. The readers that most conveniently offer this feature are those integrated into browsers rather than stand-alone readers or those that are work with your email client. My favorite program for doing this is the Firefox extension for Onfolio. It was a commercial product until it was recently acquired by Microsoft who now make it availa
Recently I have been using the trial version of “FeedDemon” and I have to say I’m quiet happy with the features, before that I was using “FeedReader” which had some weird flaws like scrolling over to the right automatically if I pressed down to read the next item! Aswell as not being able to mark items as important and just generally having to stick with reading full view content. However FeedDemon allows you to choose how you would like to read your feeds, from just titles, to summaries to full posts! Brilliantly made and certainly helps reading 36 blogs in a couple of minutes!

I subscribe to a fairly large number of RSS feeds and have been using IE7 to subscribe and manage them and have grown frustrated with the time it takes to rapidly scan my feeds for pertinent information. Then I found a service called NetVibes. NetVibes is a web based service that lets you creates pages of feeds that you can look at like a snapshot. You can even create multiple tabs based on topics or other categories. In addition NetVibes has all kinds of little widgets you can put on a page like weather, calendar, to do lists and more. Another cool thing NetVibes provides is the ability to drag around your various feeds and widgets to the location or even the tab you want them in.This has sped up my information scanning and targeting tremendously. Another site that offers a similar service is called Pageflakes.
You may or may not know about RSS. If you don't it stands for Really Simple Syndication. It has become a popular means of communcation between a site and a vistor. The idea behind it is that the user subscribes to the website RSS feed, and with the appriate RSS reader can read the latest headlines from the site. This saves users a lot of time from visting the website to check out what is new.
Microsoft has released a 3D RSS reader for Vista that uses the Windows Presentation Foundation to transform your RSS folders and feeds into a 3D galaxy! Your folders will be represented as galaxies, and your feeds will be represented as stars that are cubes and spin and or smaller or larger depending on how many items are unread! And the faces of the cubes will display the current content and media for the RSS feed! As a Star Trek fan, I find this very cool!!And on top of that it's made to be like a game. You can "fly" through your feeds like you're in some space ship in all three dimensions. As you fly through, you can select an item from the feed and the cube will turn and display the content of that item. Right-clicking the mouse buttons brings you back out to the galaxy for more exploring!Unfortunately, since a lot of feeds don't have logos right now, the cubes will only show a generic feed icon, so if you really want to get the full visual appeal of the reader, you'll have to

Sorry Stavlund - one more post that's not about - ooooh - church DANGER! ;-)
So my first RSS reader was the one that came in Google's Desktop Sidebar, which calls RSS feeds "web clips" and, sadly, doesn't work very well. (Or at least didn't at the time, and it was bad enough that I'm not inclined to try it again.) It was one of those products with lots of ambition but poor execution - it tried to add feeds automagically for you based on your browsing habits (which was neat, if perhaps a bit Google-standard-creepy), but it made it absolutely impossible to manage a list of feeds across multiple computers. Also, it missed updates - alot.
So I dumped it in favor of a Firefox plugin called Wizz RSS Reader. This was better - the feature set was all I could ask for - but since it did all its work within Firefox on the local computer, it tended to make both the browser and the slow computers I run it on v-e-r-y v-e-r-y s-l-o-w. It might be OK if you watch fewer feeds than I do (7
I keep hearing about RSS, XML and RSS feeds. I just barely have a clue what they are, but when people then start talking about RSS aggregators, what are they talking about and why would I want one? Do you use an aggregator, and if so, which one? Ain't jargon fun? RSS is Really Simple Syndication and it's a simple data-only version of a Web page or, in the case of a weblog, Web site. Why is that interesting? Because it's then easy to write programs that track this XML formatted data stream and let you know when there's new material added to the site. For example, if you were tracking the Ask Dave Taylor RSS data stream then when this article "went live" on my site, you'd receive notification and be able to read it within minutes of it arriving. Maybe not so critical for my tech and business Q&A, I admit, but I also track a number of different business newswires and was reading about the Proctor & Gamble acquisition of Gillette at least a day prior to my colleagues. How do I know tha
