The popularity of RSS is quite obvious: there are few websites or blogs that don’t provide RSS.Bloggs can submit their blogs to RSS directories for more exposure, and by trial and error, put their RSS in the best position of their pages. And on the part of RSS consumers, great tools are available. For myself, I still remember I feel it strongly when my startpage Netvibes didn’t work. Here I’d
If my blog is the only blog that you read, then you probably don't need to learn about RSS feeds. However, if you read at least 2 or 3 blogs and any news sites or other sites that are updated regularly, then using RSS feeds and reading your blogs in a reader will save you a lot of time.Once again, as I did in my post about del.icio.us, I am going to let the makers of the "Common Craft" videos help explain how to subscribe to blogs and websites to you.Now that you understand the process, you can see that on the right side of my blog, right below the Google search bar, is my RSS widget. If you would like to subscribe, and you already have a reader, just click it, choose your reader and thats it. If you still need to sign up for a reader, I use Google Reader and I am very happy with it. Many

Do you know what an RSS feed is? If you’re like 90 percent of your fellow Internet users, you don’t. You’ve probably heard the term. And chances are you’ve seen the little orange square that symbolizes an RSS feed, too. But have you actually used one? Or have you even done research to learn what [...]

What is a Feed (RSS/ATOM)?
Feeds are an easy way for you to stay up to date on all your favorite websites.
You simply use the “feed” link located on the site and enter it into your “feed reader.” Your feed reader then checks those sites regularly to see if there is any new content.
You DON’T have to visit each site! The information comes straight to your feed reader.

It is possible to get your RSS feeds synchronized with your ipod. This is made possible by a cool looking application called ipodagent. If you are looking for the free(beta) version you can download it from here. (if you go to the vendors website they have a later version, however it is no longer free. you can go here for this. How does it work? You fire up the program, enter the address of any RSS feeds that you would like to synchronize with your ipod and click on synchronize. It really is as simple as that. The rss feed then is available under the notes section of your ipod. There are many online music podcast rss feeds to choose from online. For many of the feed producers, a podcast feed is a way to distribute non mainstream music that otherwise would not be able to reach an audience. These musicians are able to build a following and share their work from outside of a music culture that tends to keep out more niche groups. Because the music industry is oriented towards mass distribution and marketing, musicians and groups that aren't believed to command such widespread fandom are kept out of the market.Distributing some of their music by podcast rss feeds, however, lets them grow a small fanbase and attract listeners who enjoy their work. These musicians may support themselves by also selling portions of their work, or may decide to provide all of their work

If you are a Bidvertiser publisher and have their advertisements displayed on your site (like I do), you probably received an e-mail the other day on their newest feature - 'BidVertiser Ads for your RSS Feeds.'Apparently, you can now display the Bidvertiser cost-per-click ads within your feeds. In addition to that, you can also get their 'multiple-subscription Feed Widgets' to help you publicize your feed. That's a mixture of free additional traffic AND getting paid for it!That sounds pretty good to me, though, I have yet to experience it so I'm giving it a try. Have you noticed the orange icon above? You might already have seen this icon in many other sites. This icon is the universally recognized standard symbol of RSS feeds. The acronym, RSS, stands for "really simple syndication." RSS feeds allow the contents of sites or blogs to be automatically published in other sites or feed readers without the need for manually posting the contents. For instance, if your blog is subscribed to MyBlogLog, the contents of your blog are partially displayed on this site. This is made possible by the RSS feeds of your blog site. The RSS feeds are also responsible for allowing your site to be easily indexed by search engines such as Google. If you are using Blogger/Blogspot services, the default RSS feed of your blog is called "Atom." Try clicking the "Atom" link found at the bottom-most part of the post body of your blog. Clicking the said link will open a new page that displays the contents of your blog, minus the widgets and layout design. This page is know

Hope you enjoy them both.I'm going to see I can get my talented wife to clean up the design a bit here at the start of 2008 in order to make this blog a little easier to navigate. I wouldn't expect it until after the holidays though, as she is pretty busy working on projects at the moment.

Methods to promote your feedsIf you select to syndicate your website content through RSS feeds, the first step you should do is create them. You have many alternatives, starting from manual coding to RSS feeds generators usage. In order to obtain the best visibility for search engines spiders, you must have in mind a few basic rules. On a single page of your website, you must provide all available RSS channels. Beginning from the channel title and description, you must select representative keywords or key phrases that will accurately describe your feeds' content. You must then submit this page to search engine and link directories. You can also submit your feeds to feeds search engines, such as Feedster for example. The benefits of submitting RSS feeds to search engines is reflected in one way links to your website, which means an increased visibility for search engines robots. After your feeds are republished by other webmasters, you should detect and link to them.In this way, you wil

You know when you are on holiday, and you come back, and you say “Catch up!”, you spend about a day telling tales (after the response from Monday’s post, a small round up of what I’ve been doing will be up on Friday), swapping stories, getting abreast (teehee) of the news? Well, it has to be done with RSS feeds. So imagine my dismay when I saw this when I returned.
Or do I have to catch up? You see, what purpose would it make if I caught up? Would I gain anything? Or would it be more worthwhile wiping the slate clean and starting afresh. What do you think?
Why I Should Catch Up
The main reason for catching up would be that I would catch up on awesome posts, tips that I can use, or cool new things that have occurred. For example, a quick check of my “must read” bloggers (i.e. physically visited the site, rather than read them in RSS), meant I saw Jem’s ace redesign.
The other reason is that if I comment on old posts, it’s more likely to
When creating your RSS feeds it’s recommended to optimize for search engines as you would your website or blog.
Below are 8 simple steps to help you optimize your RSS feeds:
*The title for the feed must contain keywords relating to the content. Ensure your content and titles are relevant.
*Try to emphasize keywords in your link text. Search engines typically use the text in the feeds internal links to help identify the keywords to use for your RSS feed.
*Always be the first to subscribe to your own RSS feed. You need to know what you readers are seeing; also this is a good way to experiment with your feeds format.

Adding an rss feed to your website is not as difficult as most people believe. The great thing about adding RSS feeds to your website is that the feed can keep your page content updated automatically since you are ‘streaming’ information directly from another website to your page! The method of adding RSS feeds discussed below involves the use of PHP and HTML.To get started with streaming an RSS feed, you need to dwnload a package called RSS2HTML which makes it easy to add feeds to your website. You can download the RSS2HTML package from http://www.feedforall.com/download/ Once the files are unzipped, upload the php file rss2html.php to your server.RSS2HTML uses templates to define how the news feed should be displayed, so you will also have to upload the template file included in the package to your server (template1.html). Once those files have been uploaded, loading an RSS file is easy!Choose the HTML file you would like the RSS file to be loaded in, and rename the file to have an

We've recently added some RSS feeds to make it easier to keep track of changes made to the ProductCritic site. This is an easy feature to add extra value to your site and with Rails it's quite easy. There a number of ways to do this but I decided to use a straight forward method of using an XML view.First step is to create a new method in your controller. For the home page feed which provides updates on the latest product reviews on the site, I added an 'rss' method to the PageController class that looked something like this:def rss@products = Product.find(:all, :order => 'created_at desc', :limit => 20)render :layout => falseendNow all that is needed is to create a 'app/views/page/rss.rxml' file to create the RSS feed. In this example I used this:xml.instruct! :xml, :version => '1.0', :encoding => 'utf-8'xml.rss('version' => '2.0') doxml.channel doxml.title "Latest Products from ProductCritic"xml.link(request.protocol + request.host_with_port + home_path)xml.descript

Perhaps you still don't realize or fully understand the power of RSS Feeds as a marketing tool. After all, email works fine, doesn't it?Unfortunately, the truth is:1. It's getting harder to get people to opt-in or subscribe to your newsletter or content. With RSS feeds, this changes the playing field:1. RSS feeds can bypasses email - Eat your hearts out! [This is part of a series following on from a post called “Business Blog Design“]
RSS is a key element of blogs and for their successful use in business – it is also one of the 5 Rs that I consider to be key to business blogging. This is primarily because of the enormous benefits of what is effectively an instant and very efficient method of distributing information, as well as a great marketing tool.
For publishers, RSS should really have a similar importance as an newsletter sign up box because it gives you the same opportunity to communicate with people who have expressed an interest in what you have to offer. The added benefit is of course that you have an assured method of delivery which is not hampered by email filters and the like.
If gaining loyal readers (and hence subscribers) to your blog is important - and let’s face it, it is to 95% of business bloggers - then it’s important to consider where it appears on your blog design. Higher up the screen an

RSS (aka ‘really simple syndication’ or ‘rich site summary’) is a great way to refresh content on websites and provide information to readers on a regular basis. Most of the popular news websites and blogs provide this facility now. What is great about RSS is that you can set a blog management tool such as bloglines, to automatically notify you when new content has been added to a particular RSS enabled website or blog.
For search engine marketers there is another advantage. An RSS feed from one site can be automatically included on the front page of another website and provided they have relevant themes, the content can influence the search engine rankings of the recipient site. Why ?
The search engine algorithms generally score pages for their age when calculating search engine rankings. The addition of regular fresh content, updates the age of a page. It also influences the search engine robots to visit more frequently and index any new content. The content

RSS feeds that push information to your readers are a terrific marketing tool that you should definitely looking into implementing, if you haven't already. The information is great, but what about taking it a step beyond and monetizing those feeds? Most of the time, web site owners and bloggers use their feeds to simply deliver content, but there are many companies out there pushing affiliate links, coupons and more to potential buyers. Think about offering private deals to subscribers of your feeds. Something always comes at a cost, whether it's overt or covert. flangracneig pgoramian Last night, Aled (the younger, less commenty) of my two brothers played his first gig at The Washington in Llandudno (where Lemmy from Motorhead used to hang out) with the band, kevCeejay. Alas, I would’ve loved to have gone, but I couldn’t get transportation there and back. Al kinda annoys me with his drumming when I’m hungover, but have been told he’s very good at drumming. I used to think he looked like a third of Hanson when his hair was long, and used to whistle MmmBop whenever he was out of earshot. He must’ve heard, as a week later he trimmed his locks.
Anyway, as a way of making up to him that I didn’t see him, plus I’ve got nothing else to blog about, I’ll pimp the band’s myspace, which can be seen at http://www.myspace.com/kevceejayrocks. Go and listen to my brother, who - like his other brother Rick - is obscenely more talented than yours truly. It’s just not fair. He even got a bit about the
January was my best month for revenue so far. Across the board I managed to beat out all my previous totals and, as a result, began thinking about monetizing my blog a bit better.
Awhile back I spoke about using Text Link Ads to add a revenue stream to your blog's RSS feed. While I certainly enjoy the Text Link Ads service it's one that either works great or sits stagnant. There's really no in between - You either sell ads or you don't.
As a result of last month I started thinking about better ways to take advantage of some of the un-used advertising space that was reserved for Text Link Ads. The first thing that I did was add a series of Amazon text links to the sidebar. I figured by adding Text links to the site I might be able to encourage advertisers to include their links as well. I'll get back to you on their performance some other time.
While I was adding these links I was also thinking about adding advertising to my RSS feed. Besides selling links on your blog, TLA
Notify friends and family every time you upload photos. It’s easy once they subscribe to your Online Photo Filer RSS Feed. To subscribe, they simply click ‘Subscribe to Site’ or ‘Subscribe to [gallery name]’ and follow the instructions. Then, the next time they look at their RSS feeds, they’ll be a notified if your gallery has new photos.
But that’s not all! Online Photo Filer also displays links to galleries and individual photos. That means you can now copy links and paste them into an email. And if you’re html-savvy, you can even use the individual photo permalink and embed a photo into a Web page. To copy a link, go to the gallery and click ‘Permanent link to this page.’ When the link text displays, right-click the text and select ‘Copy.’ Or, to copy a link to a specific photo, click on the thumbnail and go to the image page. Click ‘Permanent link to this photo’ and right-click the link text before selecting ‘Copy.’ It’s easy!

I never really understood the point of RSS feeds in Safari until I watched this video on the Apple site. It's a great introduction for how to set up and use the RSS features of safari, and shows you why you would want to do so. The main thing I learnt was technique of making a folder of RSS feeds from related news sites (for example, all the mac tips sites I visit regularly) and setting it to Auto-tab. Then, when you click on the folder, Safari will combine all the RSS feeds and give you a list of the latest news from all the sites in the folder. There is also additional help on highlighting new articles and sorting articles.Tags: mac, tips, mac os x, hints, mac tips, rss, safari, feed, movie

So who should I use RSS Feeds? How can it help with my online business?1. RSS Feeds allow you to deliver your newsletter/message directly to the desktop of your subscribers and readers, BYPASSING email. It's good to have found another RSS feed that's actually worth writing about! This one's a piece of gossip, but the fact that Britney Spears is apparently mentally dysfunctional left a rehab center attracts me.
