Oddly enough alcohol and poisonous snakes are not a good match.
Wilkinson, 23, had downed a six-pack and his ex-girlfriend asked him for a beer. He handed her one, not realizing the snake was also in his hand.
“She said, ‘Get that thing out of my face,’” Wilkinson said. “I told her it was a nice snake. ‘Nothing can happen. Watch.’”
So he stuck the snake in his mouth.
“It got a hold of my tongue,” he said.

Christina Ryan has always been most afraid of spiders, but now rattlesnakes top her list. The 28-year-old beauty queen from Franklin was bitten by a rattlesnake at 9 a.m. Sunday, while walking to a rehearsal for the Mrs. America pageant at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz.Ryan was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Tucson Medical Center. Quick treatment with antivenin, rest and prayer allowed her to be released by noon on Monday, Ryan said."I was on my way to rehearsal, and I'm scared of spiders, because I was bit by a brown recluse as a kid," Ryan said in a telephone call from Tucson Monday evening."I saw a spider, and it gave me the heebie jeebies. I ran, and by the time I got to the bottom of the stairs, something bit my foot, and I knew it was a rattlesnake."Ryan said "instinct" told her it was a rattlesnake, even before she looked down and saw the snake.Ryan ran back up the stairs, hysterical. There, other Mrs. America contestants called
Zoey is a Chihuahua, but when a rattlesnake lunged at her owners’ 1-year-old grandson, she was a real bulldog.
Booker West was splashing his hands in a birdbath in his grandparents’ northern Colorado back yard when the snake slithered up to the toddler, rattled and struck. Five-pound Zoey jumped in the way and took the bites.
“She got in between Booker and the snake, and that’s when I heard her yipe,” said Monty Long, the boy’s grandfather.
The dog required treatment and for a time it appeared she might not survive. Now she prances about.
“These little bitty dogs, they just don’t really get credit,” Booker’s grandma Denise Long told the Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald.
The weather is warming up quickly, which means that the rattlers are emerging again. We've encountered two beauties near the vineyard just this week.Last year, Star the Dog decided to take one on, and received a nasty strike to the nose for her trouble. She obviously hasn't learned her lesson, as she went straight for our latest visitor, pouncing and barking and generally getting it nice and riled up--coiled and sizzling--just in time for us to have to deal with it. Coming from the UK, where the most dangerous animal I ever encountered was a large cantankerous swan, this whole rattlesnake thing is quite daunting.
