In the case of the AJAX APIs, you can use the Google Gears local cache and client-side database to have queries load fast with cached data while requests for fresh data are done in the background. We decided it would be cool to write a small library to make it easy for you AJAX APIs developers to write quick-loading, always fresh searches/feeds. The gearsAJAXHelper has two main features - it allows you to store and return key/value pairs from the local database, and it allows you to choose whether you want all resources files on the page (images, CSS, Javascript, HTML) to automatically be cached in the Gears cache. The key/value

Nintendo Wii Slamming Competition - on Search Queries?
There’s no doubt that the most sought after “toy” this winter is the Nintendo Wii. While recently chatting with a local EBGameStop employee I wasn’t surprised to learn that they are regularly getting phone calls from desperate parents and more desperate gamers. The employee told me that their store averaged about 30 calls an hour asking if the Wii was in stock and - if not - when it would be. Tracking this site’s recent search engine traffic I was a bit surprised, though, to find so many visitors coming via “I need a Wii,” “Wii in time for Christmas,” and other similar queries. I guess I shouldn’t have been because hitwise is reporting today that the Nintendo Wii is out performing all other toys and even the Apple iPod in search requests (at least in the UK) this holiday season. In a blog entry at hitwise Heather Hopkins writes: Share of UK internet searches for “nintendo wii” surged up 147% last week. The term

      Email or Snail Mail Queries?
Which is better? Being fairly new at the "finding an agent", "get published" world, I've discovered a whole bucket full of things that are quite amazing. For instance, I never really thought that agents or publishers would accept queries by email. The fact that they do accept email queries makes life easier for us writers and the forests (cutting down on paper). Is it easier for the agent/publisher?It's great that there is so much diversity out there. I've found agents who will accept nothing but a snail mail query with SASE included and agents who will accept nothing but an email query. Most give detailed descriptions of what the query should look like also, even posting an example query to make it simpler for us newbie submitters. I find that awesome. Because for me that was a ray of hope. Maybe not so much for my work being considered but rather safety from looking like a complete uneducated fool to the agent I was submitting to.I'll admit, I'm fresh off the stack, as new as th
