"Animal liberation" and "gay liberation" are two phrases that are rarely heard in the same sentence. But, in fact, the liberation of gay and lesbian people, and indeed the liberation of all people, depends upon the liberation of animals. We must come to understand this, just as we must understand how different forms of bias against people, such as racism and sexism, are interconnected."(Gay-Straig

"Queer Nationalism" - The movement/dream for a homeland for LGBTQ people. Australian activists declared the Cato Islands the "Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea" in 2004. The premise is that Queers have a right to a safe and national home

According to Liberty Counsel, the California Supreme Court failed to consider all the side effects of their landmark ruling. Any two qualified adults can form a domestic partnership. They ain't married. Any two qualified unmarried individuals can be married. Therefore it would be possible for both members of a domestic partnership to marry someone else. So after a pretty much sleepless night, due to god knows what, here's another instalment of your favourite Hollywood blog.
On Saturday we had another celebrity sighting, this time at the Arclight Hollywood (probably going to see Indiana Jones too). We saw the actor, Robert Gant, who played Professor Ben Bruckner in 55 episodes of the U.S. version of Queer as Folk.

There are two opposing political viewpoints when it comes to advocacy and than of course there are a variety of more moderate middleground opinions that fall in between the Queer Liberationists and Gay Assimilationist camps. Gay Assimilationists - This ideology is to make gay/lesbian people seem like average, normal everyday citizens in the eyes of the general public. They want to make the case

I say that because I've got a new appreciation for just how damn sexy some Asian men are. I'm talking red hot. The white men here...nevermind, but they really don't compare. I've had a few crushes in the past (my former hapkido assistant instructor comes to mind as the most insane crush), so this isn't new. However, the predominant stereotype of the Asian man isn't one that's associated with sexiness. But, as I'm a black woman, I know very well how inaccurate stereotypes can be on an individual level. I feel like I'm in some minority when I talk about how this or that guy
For now, for half of the week I frame exhibits for the George Eastman House. This is not fiction, I do this. J got me the job. J likes art, likes me and now I do this part time. There are other details worth mentioning but I refrain. At work this morning I was reframing exhibition prints - Woodburytypes by John Thomson from the 1900’s and came across one of soldiers standing on a street corner in London. I asked audibly “could I be one of these men?” J looked on and pointed to the one with the blonde beard. “You’d be that one.” I wasn’t so sure. I wasn’t sure if I could be another man in a different time. “So many lives,” I thought. I felt fortunate. The prints were of such extraordinary beauty that I wept in the privacy of the studio for the shear possibility of it.

Following the very special episode of Strongest, Richest and Dumbest, we just had to do an article on this latest gaming phenomenon that has been sweeping North America like Black Death did in medieval Europe. This game basically mimics, Dance Dance Revolution in which the player(s) had to be at least active in learning some crazy dance moves to win this game. However, this game is pure lameness in a form of a controller shaped like a guitar. The players are made to believe that they are some kind of super-rock stars who are pleasing the masses by their pure skills of the hitting buttons at the right time. The last time pushing buttons at the right time was cool was the time when people used to get nuts on playing pinball. Yes, for you retro folk, pinball is your bread and butter but really, you need to understand that you guys are pretty damn lame and need to get out of the 70-80s. But this article won't be focused on the retro-folk but on the lameness that is called Guitar Hero. This
Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay.J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall. After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members. She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love.""Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause. The ace "Perspective" research staff has uncovered a rumor (just a rumor...not proven!) that several students of Hogwart's Academy are reportedly preparing a class action suite against Dumbledore on molestation charges."Let's get things back into perspective here" is trying to contact J.K. Rowling to put an end to this vicious gossip, but has had no luck so far. Personally I cant' bring myself to believe these allegations, but we will do our best to clear
Tonight’s episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was one of the best I’ve seen in the while. Although I love this show, a lot of the time I find myself thinking that some of the people will simply go back to their old ways after the Fab Five leave. They appreciate it, but it’s a “for now” change, not a life change.
Today, the show was about Ronie, a high school senior who was going to his prom and needed help getting ready for college. You could just tell that this show changed his life. They not only helped Ronie clean up his look and room, but they gave him a computer, all the college supplies he will need, a cool new wardrobe, and TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to cover an college costs he may have above and beyond the scholarship he received. Ronie didn’t come from the wealthiest household, but he learned to make the most of his situation, even without a father figure in his life. He didn’t become a child of the street. He persevered.
It’s
Speaking of letters...I would like to introduce you all to a new blog that a friend of mine has started. It's a submission based blog, much like TLL, but she is looking for love letters. Here's a bit from her first post. There is nothing more intimate or soul exposing than a love letter. For many, the written word is the best way to express their true feelings. It is the way by which we open ourselves up to the one person in the world we care the most about. It seems that the "love letter” is a dying breed by postal mail standards. Modern technology has given us email, cell phones, and the like that have gladly replaced the need for pen to paper. This blog is not taking a stand towards the downfall of technology. It is working to bring the love letter back through it!Queer Love was created to share love letters, written by queer people, with the world. It’s mission is to share the love and show others just how “undifferent” our love, as gay individuals, truly is. Did he leave
By Sharon WhiteQueer theory and identity politics function in co ordinance with one another and they subsequently operate to correspond and contradict with media representation in various ways. This paper will endeavour to identify the tensions played out between identity politics and queer theory in relation to gender and sexuality. While attempting to identify the conflicts between identity politics and queer theory, I will subsequently concentrate on accentuating the inconsistencies that operate between these two movements in relation to the media’s representation of queer. The queer media identities examined are the television program Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and the pop icon Madonna. While the media’s representation of queer identities are seemingly flawed in relation to queer theory and identity politics, I will subsequently articulate that these representations function accordingly with individual audience members who have the ability to read such texts polysemically.

Man, it was cold at six this morning. And overcast. I could smell rain, but the clouds held their water. Must have been young clouds-if clouds are anything like men-because this old man can’t hold it that long.Spike and I usually don't travel too far from home, but this morning we decided to ride into J‘ville. According to the classified ad, someone had a huge selection of books for sale. The misguided young woman holding the sale had four boxes of books. Four. To me, huge conjurors up a lawn covered in stuff, but I still managed to pick up five or six titles. Spike handled the haggling. Price should have been $7.00. She added wrong and came up with $4.00. Spike gave her a Jackson. When she made change, she handed Spike $18.00, cheating herself out of another $2.00. Spike didn't catch the mistake. He claims he didn’t, but you never know with Spike. An hour and a half later, I realized the woman gave too much change. I wanted to go back, but now I'm now forty miles from her hou
