Economic News USD Yesterday, the greenback was revived after several days of bearish behavior. Investors seem to have kept faith about the dollar as traders pushed it toward sharp profits versus most of its currency rivals. It has been briefly touched upon before in fundamental reports that global investors take any positive trend from the US economy and run with it, as the greenback has proven in history that it can take a severe hit and recover. What made the bullish trend even more significant was the overall market condition surrounding it as scheduled events didn't deter profits. Yesterday's US economic calendar was sprinkled with news that returned to negative results and should have had equal effect on the currency. Some though, did contribute to the rise, as Non Farm Productivity r

Seems ATI's upcoming RV770-based Radeon HD 4800 might threaten NVIDIA's dominance of the high-end graphics market, and that's just not acceptable -- so the company is planning on pushing up the release of the GeForce 9900 to July. Pushing up Daisy
Our neighborhood is in mourning. It is a sad time. A young life was cut short.  I explained to my children about loss.  That's never easy.  There have been many questions. “Is he in Heaven?”  “What is he doing there?” I’ve tried to be honest and transparent with my children. We’ve watched our neighbors struggle through the difficult mourning process.  They have wept bitterly, donned black clothes, and truly struggled. Although we don’t know this family very well, the parents and two college-aged kids have accepted our condolences. The funeral was very touching.  My sweet husband helped with the burial process.  He’s a good man, always lending a hand to those in need. Watching adults throw themselves on the ground and beat the dirt, screaming, “Why???”

Originally, the Bureau planned for workers to use 500,000 wireless handheld devices from Harris Corp. as a replacement for the paperwork used to collect information from Americans who do not respond to the census. The $1.3 billion program looked great on, well, paper, but was ultimately derailed by hardware issues and incompetence. The biggest issue with the Harris handhelds was that they were more paperweight than PDA. They were too big (slightly larger than a cell phone), didn't transmit data very well, and at one point during testing there were 417 outstanding technical requirements not being met. "Reverting b

In addition, minority drop out rates are huge and more and more minorities are being disenfranchised from the economic system. As countries like China are pumping out educated children America is sculpting hypersensitive young adults. How are we going to solve this problem? One of the biggest problems this country faces is “in your face” culture which tells young people they define their future and their limits and don’t need to concern themselves with what other people thing. What exactly is Dick Cheney pushing in the Middle East?
Vice President Dick Cheney with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.Associated Press photoThere is probably no person more unqualified to lead a Mideast peace push than Dick Cheney. His visit to Israel demonstrates his “unshakable” commitment to the defense of Israel, which is all fine, but he seems to treat the Palestinians as an afterthought. Oh, the US has “goodwill” toward the Palestinians, says Cheney, as if giving a tentative pat on the head to the red-headed stepchild at the family picnic. The vice president got a commitment on oil production from Saudi Arabia, but did he accomplish anything else of significance? The Political Value of Pushing McCain on Climate Change
Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have demonstrated their commitment to taking strong and bold action on climate change. Obama: Cap and Trade: Obama supports implementation of a market-based cap-and-trade system to reduce carbon emissions by the amount scientists say is necessary: 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. Obama's cap-and-trade system will require all pollution credits to be auctioned. A 100 percent auction ensures that all polluters pay for every ton of emissions they release, rather than giving these emission rights away to coal and oil companies. Some of the revenue generated by auctioning allowances will be used to support the development of clean energy, to invest in energy efficiency improvements, and to address transition costs, including helping American workers aff

Democrats Pushing For Stronger Government Involvement for Financial Companies
Democrats are pushing for tighter regulation on hedge funds and fund managers much similar to the types of regulations that commercial banks have had for several years. The new regulations could bring new requirements such as requiring higher cash reserves in order to deal with unexpected losses. They are pushing towards giving the Federal Reserve more power over the financial markets allowing them to regulate financial institutions when necessary. The moves come just after Bear Stearns collapsed due to massive losses related to the housing and credit crises.

Navy contingent pushing for UFO disclosure
According to sources leaking information to UFO/ET researchers as to a secret UN UFO meeting recently there exists a United States Navy working group that is secretly pushing for full and open disclosure of extraterrestrial reality. This group sees "… a logistical "window of opportunity" to end over 60 years of denial during this "lame duck" period (of the Bush Administration) and before the next administration takes office; this helps to facilitate disclosure at this time in order to put overt contact at the forefront of future plans." One of the ways that this group hopes to effect disclosure is through calculated leaks of UFO/ET related information to the public. The question now is if the Navy takes the lead will the Air Force, Army and Marines follow? (For some history on this

      Pushing the Envelope
New Yorkers enjoy a reputation for not being the friendliest or the most helpful people, but my experience while recently training for the car-pushing record was just the opposite. In fact, I was amazed at how kind my fellow New Yorkers could be! The record for car-pushing by an individual is 12 miles. The car has to weigh a minimum of 1609 pounds. The engine cannot be running and a person must sit in the driver’s seat to steer. I was practicing with a friend’s Ford Festiva (which weighs about 1850 pounds) around a ½ mile loop along streets of Howard Beach, Queens. Guinness requires you to push the car on a loop to eliminate any possibility (and advantages) of a downhill course. On a loop, whatever respite you get from the downhills, you eventually pay for on the corresponding uphills

Pushing Daisies: Can Ned and Chuck have a child? Spoilers!
By Juliana Weiss To many fans, waiting until the fall for new episodes of Pushing Daisies after a strike-shortened nine-episode first season seems like cruel and unusual punishment. But last night at the Paley Fest, creator Bryan Fuller insisted that, creatively, the delay was a good thing for the show. “It gave us a chance to look back at the nine episodes, and what was working and what was not working,” he said. Fuller explained that the second season will have a harder, more aggressive style of storytelling as opposed to the softer, more romantic arc of the first season. For those of us who can’t wait, here are a few SPOILERS revealed last night: Emerson (Chi McBride) became a private investigator in an effort to find his daughter. A fact which will be explored in the next se

      Alastair Reynolds - Pushing Ice
This is the first Alastair Reynolds work that I have read that isn't set in his future history set in the so called "Redemption Ark" universe. It's really a three part novel that starts moving very slowly and gathers pace, until the end, which is extremely fast moving. This is only in part due to the immense acceleration in space/time that the principle characters experience. The title refers

      Pushing Gentoo forward
Hi allBeing part of a Gentoo community (and I am after all an ex-User Representative. The "ex" part in it is because the project is debunk and no longer exists), it hurts me to see my favorite Linux distribution getting to the point of no return. Like, the Tipping Point in reverse: after this point nothing can be done to stop its destruction.I'm not pessimistic person in general. I'm just an outside (and a little inside) observer, who wishes all the best but can't really affect anything. I just read Brian Proffit's support call for Daniel Robbins' offer to step as the leader of Gentoo's legal affairs again. I am gladly joining the call, because I think Gentoo is in position where it needs leadership.Gentoo was founded by Daniel, who left it in 2005 for personal reasons. This act may be see

Morning Has Broken - Ellen Greene - Pushing Daisies - Moving From Grief Into Joy
GamerDude and I pay an extra $10 a month in our cable bill to have DVR service. This allows us to record the shows we like and to watch them at a time that fits our schedule. With my juggling of work, school, and homework it is the only way I get to watch anything. Recently we got caught up on some episodes of Pushing Daisies.  It is probably my favorite show on TV currently because it is sweet and funny and touching and silly all at once.  Also the use of color is really yummy.  It reminds me of the flashback scenes in Big Fish where everything is so bright and vivid it just pops off the screen with surrealism. Anyway, in a recent episode one of the characters has a scene where she sings the song Morning Has Broken.  It is a scene in which she starts out singing softly and almost sadly and transitions into sheer joy.  It is a scene in which she is moving away from grief and back into living life again. And yes I know it is a Christian hymn.  I sang it way back when … i

IT executives pushing for Web-based poll system in 2010
By Lawrence CasirayaMANILA, Philippines -- A group of technology industry veterans led by Augusto "Gus" Lagman is proposing an Internet-based system that promises to make transparent the counting of votes by allowing public access to real-time results. In an interview with INQUIRER.net, Lagman, a staunch critic of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) during the time of former chair Benjamin Abalos, said the proposed system is "very close" to what election watchdog National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) used during the previous elections. As described by Lagman, the proposed system makes use of a Web-based portal through which Comelec "encoders" could directly post election returns or send data via SMS. Under this system, the manual counting of votes in each precinct remains the same whereas other proposed poll automation systems make use of machines for casting of votes. "Based on previous elections, manual counting per precinct takes only eight to 24 hours. That's not what

Maker of Cervical Cancer Vaccine Stops Pushing to Require It for Girls
This week, the drug company Merck announced that it would end a lobbying campaign for Gardasil, its new vaccine for girls and women. The vaccine is designed to protect against four kinds of human papillomavirus, or HPV. These cause about seventy percent of cervical cancers and ninety percent of genital warts. The development of the vaccine has been widely praised. But Merck faced growing criticism for its push for states to require schoolgirls to be vaccinated with Gardasil. The company says the criticism was interfering with its goal of widespread use of the vaccine. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved Gardasil last June for females age nine to twenty-six.At least twenty of the fifty state legislatures have begun to consider some form of Gardasil requirement. In Texas, Governor Rick Perry has ordered that beginning in two thousand eight, girls eleven and twelve years old must be vaccinated with Gardasil. But parents could choose not to, if they object for religious or

      Is The Greenback Pushing Back?
As we have noticed during the last several days, the US dollar has continued its recovery progress against most of the 16 most activated currencies. The US dollar extended its gains against the EUR and the GBP after the poor British retail sales figures. The Sterling came under pressure after a 0.1% slip in UK retail sales in October and it amplified speculation that the UK central Bank will lower interest rates in order to stimulate consumer spending. The dollar rose against the EUR, as the 13-nation currency fell to $1.4612 in the late afternoon from $1.4676, and the pound dropped to $2.0434 from $2.0563. The EUR continued to weaken as investors continued to cool down by following the yen-funded carry trades in the course of growing risk aversion stemming from the lingering credit problem. This risk aversion sentiment helps the greenback to get stronger as many investors invest back in the US currency. In addition, The U.S. Labor Department reported yesterday that Consumer Price In

Iran Pushing Israel to the Edge
Iran recently announced that it has reached a landmark in its quest for nuclear capability -- 3,000 up & running centrifuges. When I first read that I thought as Maxwell Smart used to say, "Oh no, not 3,000 centrifuges! Just one question, what is a centrifuge?"Reaching the 3,000 centrifuge mark means that Iran has the capacity to enrich enough uranium for a nuclear bomb possibly within a year. The Iranian announcement has led to increased concerns that Israel is being pushed to the brink, and is more likely to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has repeatedly called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."Prior to Iran's announcement regarding the centrifuges, a U.S. Defense official (that same day) said:“Israel could do something when they [Iran] get to around 3,000 working centrifuges. The Pentagon is minded to wait a little longer.”Israel made no attempt to alleviate such concerns around the world. It responded by repeating what they've
