"It is natural for people to draw that type of conclusion. Before the general election, the previous state government and the federal government had given promises, iron-clad promises mind you, that these projects are steaming ahead. Yet after the voters threw out the Barisan Nasional (state) government, we find the federal government is singing a different tune. They now claimed that the basic ap
There’ll come a time when the SEC will do away with absurdities like the pattern day trader rule in favor of holding accountable entertainment-masquerading-as-reality outfits (WWE, CNBC, WSJ etc.) and their fake-stars (The Rock, Cramer, Journalists, etc.) for the damage their games cause…but it is not this day.

Seumas MilneSeumas Milne writes in The Guardian's Comment is Free section that the media have forgotten that Israel's stranglehold on electrical power, commerce and the general infrastructure of the Gaza Strip is the starting point of the current violence between Gazans and the Israel Defense Force. Hamas is not the instigator. Milne observes: “BBC presenters have insisted that Palestinian rockets have been the "starting point" of the violence, as if the occupation itself did not exist. In the West Bank, from which no rockets are currently fired and where the US-backed administration of Mahmoud Abbas maintains a ceasefire, there have been 480 Israeli military attacks over the past three months and 26 Palestinians killed. By contrast, the rockets from Gaza which are supposed to be the j

First, the Palm Beach superintendent calls for an alternative to suspending kids who misbehave. Now, a group of Miami-Dade students tells its School Board that detention and suspension simply don't work.
Palm Beach super Art Johnson's (left) recommendation is to put the wayward teens into centers where they will focus on education, social skills and maybe even job skills. Working with civic leaders, he's already got them ready to open in January.
The Miami students have a different idea. They told the School Board to try "restorative justice." That's where the violators and victims get together to decide on an way to right the wrong. The board agreed to explore the idea.
Maybe it's just us, but after reporting about schools for years, these concepts seem to make too much sense. Too often, kids who hate school use the system to get what they want - out of school. But what value, really, is there in putting teens who probably need school - and a good teacher who can encourage an
- With the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that it was okay for Spanish side Granada 74 to buy into the second division by taking over Ciudad Murcia, FIFA head Sepp Blatter has someone how negatively associated the ruling with the 'U.S. franchise system'. I'm not sure what he's referring to and apparently neither does he, but it sounds quite hypocritical coming from a man who's all for foreign investment in football.- Apparently if you are found guilty of participating in the biggest bribery scandal in Czech football history, all you'll receive is a slap on the wrist. That's pretty much the sum of things that happened to three former soccer officials and seven Czech league referees who were convicted of bribery in a match-fixing scandal on Thursday in case that was stemming from 2004.- William Gallas thinks Italy and Scotland will falter in their upcoming 2008 Euro qualifying matches and will allow his side, France, a safe passage through to the final. A judge ruled last week that the North Carolina Medical Board cannot discipline doctors who participate in executions. Reporting here, here, here, and here. You can read the judge’s decision here. In essence, Judge Donald Stephens found that medical ethics, however noble, don’t override the mandate of the legislature. No word yet on how this ruling affects separate litigation that has brought a pause in executions since 2006.
In Wilson County, trial is set to begin today for James Johnson. Johnson has been in jail for three years awaiting trial for the kidnapping/rape/murder of Brittany Willis. The problem? There is no physical evidence connecting Johnson to the crime, and a man already convicted of the murder says he acted alone. Many are calling for the charges to be dropped.

Chris Dillow, of Stumbling and Mumbling, explains how making the purchase of sex illegal damages prostitutes (especially the poorest). Making the purchase of sex illegal would lower demand, which would lower the price of sex. The poorest prostitutes would be least able to switch to an alternative occupation with similar pay and would be targeted more by the new law, and would therefore earn less. Labour ministers would damage the very people they are trying to protect. On top of the utility of prostitutes, there is an obvious rights-based argument for not making the purchase of sex illegal. Purchasing sex is like purchasing any service, and should be based on a free contract between prostitute and customer. The state should not intervene simply because the electorate find selling sex morally wrong (as opposed to selling violence, another physical act).Making the purchase of sex will only further infringe the freedom of the individual to sell their labour and it will make prostitutes wor

BANGKOK, It is the pink armband of shame for wayward police officers, as cute as can be with a Hello Kitty face and a pair of linked hearts.
“Simple warnings no longer work,” said Pongpat Chayaphan, acting chief of the Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok, who instituted the new humiliation this week.
“This new twist is expected to make them feel guilt and shame and prevent them from repeating the offense, no matter how minor,” he said. “Kitty is a cute icon for young girls. It’s not something macho police officers want covering their biceps.”
The department has not yet decided what punishment to impose if officers make off with their pink armbands as well.

Article Title: Dog Training: Would Your Dog Listen If YouPunish Him?Author: David WillisAlways use praise instead of punishment with dog training. Dogsrespond best to positive dog training rather than negative. Withall of this in mind you should be able to teach your dog the 3basis commands such as sit - stay - fetch. There are manydifferent dog training techniques that are out there today. Manypeople often don't realize that dog training courses oftenutilize different dog training techniques. Unfortunately onepart of dog training that is not gone over very well in dogtraining classes is chewing. Reprimanding your dog should not happen often as dogs respondbetter to positive reinforcement used in dog training. A dogthat has been properly trained won't take a nip at other dogs orpedestrians when you are out for walks. Your frustration cancause you to want to force the issue and end up taking two stepsbackward with your progress. Seehttp://www.dogtraining-online.us/kno
There’s a clear pattern in the markets over the past few days. Quite simply, almost everything has sold off on nervousness and worry over credit and the fed, which is standing in the way of another bull run. One of the more noticeable drops has been from Citigroup (C). The company has fallen well off of its $57.00 52 week high, and as of yesterday, resided at $51.81 per share. With an exceptional dividend just under 4 percent and recent disclosures of big name buyers, Citi is poised to go higher. Investors should immediately take the opportunity to invest in shares below $50 is possible.

One of the rockets directly hit a home, seriously wounding a mother and moderately wounding her son. Sderot residents, for the first time in months, slept in bomb shelters on Tuesday night. Yesterday, the schools were closed until further notice.

Congress is looking at passing legislation that will give taxpayer money to bail out individuals who took on subprime loans. I fail to see how someone spending beyond their means and overleveraging should be entitled to the tax receipts taken from individuals who took the steps necessary to avoid unreasonable financial agreements. There should be no bail out. If lenders were fraudulent, yes they should be punished, but individuals who overextended do not deserve money from their neighbors’ pockets.

Amidst all the brouhaha about the appointment of the corrupt piece of garbage Congressman William Jefferson (D-Louisiana) to the Homeland Security committee, there is something everyone is forgetting...his constituents.Yes, Jefferson has been dogged by scandal, he is corrupt, he is the worst possible type of politicians, but something has happened since Pelosi stripped him off the Ways and Means Committee...an election happened. And it wasn't as if Jefferson wasn't targeted. Another Democrat, Karen Carter, ran against Jefferson and got support from a large number of Democrats around the country. (I rooted for Cater to defeat Jefferson.) However, the people of New Orleans, for some ungodly reason, reelected the jerk.Pelosi put him on the Homeland Security committee to serve the people of New Orleans, 43% of whom did not vote for Jefferson. The people of New Orleans deserve service...and quite frankly, I look forward to defeating Jefferson in 2008.I would say however, one more indicatio
