Article Length You should always keep you article 500 to 800 words long. If you can't fit what you want to say into that amount of space, then break your article up into more than one part. 2. If you want a longer ad, buy one! 3. Line Length The lines in both your article and your resource box should be formatted to 60 to 65 characters per line. Why Are Publishers so Picky?
By: Tiva Kelly Getting published is tricky. Sometimes getting a publishers approval seems like a lost cause. Why are publishers so picky? Simple. They have to be picky about the content they publish to be successful. The publisher’s job is to attract readers and keep them happy. Your job as a writer is to give publishers what they want to attract readers and keep them coming back. What Are Publishers so Picky about? You don’t have to get inside the head of the public to see what they are picky about. A lot of things publishers look for are common sense. Articles that require excess editing are likely to be kicked back to the writer. Misspelled words, grammatical errors and poor sentence structure will not get you published. Likewise, an article that is over or under the recommended word count will not be accepted for publication. Self-Publishing vs Traditional Publishers

Even though I am far from being an expert, that doesn't stop me from shooting off my mouth. After writing the first draft of my book, I called a friend in New York City who was a high-profile literary agent. I energetically explained my book and then asked for her opinion. I knew my book wasn't her cup of tea; I was just getting some direction. She launched into a description of the New York publishing scene that curled my toenails. She said that since I was a first-time-unknown author, my chances of landing with a majorNew York publishing house without an agent were anorexic at best. I was told most big time publishers wouldn't even sneer at me without an agent. Unfortunately, finding an agent who I liked and who liked me could take forever. Is Print On Demand Publishing A Viable Option for Self-Publishers?
This is a frequent question for many wannabe authors willing to take the first step to publication themselves. In general I think the writing world is full of paranoid naysayers; who love pointing out the flaws of this technology (print-on-demand is a print technology, not a vanity service). As a self-published (in-part) author who did take the POD (print-on-demand) route, I have my own opinions of the technology and its uses.Let me say right off that I'm not going to talk about the various POD services (Lulu.com, IUniverse, Booksurge, etc) but am going to focus solely on the viability of using POD to accomplish certain goals. Here's a quick synopsis of the goals I had set before publishing my POD novel, The Didymus Contingency.1. To sell 10,000 copies.2. To attract and land and agent.3. To attract traditional publishers.4. To publish a professional looking book.5. To spend a tiny amount of money doing all this.Rather than go into detail about how these goals were accomplished, as I

Lets prove Google we are promising publishers
I was a bit sleepy today.I used to check my AdSense earnings on every odd day since I was in the nervous nineties. today, when I logged in, I felt happy that my gross earnings are now in 3 digits( for some of you, you can do so in a day) but for me its a good experience to be there for the first time. Now, as I have crossed the minimum payout limit, I want to be nice with them.Earlier I was a naughty chap creating hundreds of channels and changing ad placement almost daily.I want to prove that this blog is visited by a high quality traffic. The best way to do so is to put up referral Ad units instead of the normal AdSense for Content Ad units.I'll be going for non-Google referral 2.0 Ad units.Recently they implied a limitation on first few successful conversions done by a publisher. So far I have done one only one successful conversion. They will be probably remove the limitation once I do 5 more to to enable me full payments.I'll be replacing the most visible Ad unit, the post inline on

Google Network Revenues - Google's partner sites generated revenues, through AdSense programs, of $1.45 billion, or 34% of total revenues, in the third quarter of 2007. This represents a 40% increase over network revenues of $1.04 billion generated in the third quarter of 2006 and an 8% increase over second quarter 2007 revenues of $1.35 billion. The majority of TAC expense is related to amounts ultimately paid to our AdSense partners, which totaled $1.12 billion in the third quarter of 2007. Frankfurt - Publishers - e-Books - e-Book Readers
Information World Review - in a further report from the Frankfurt Book Fair - reports that Wiley Chairman Peter Wiley and Stephen Smith, Wiley senior VP for Europe & International Development, are claiming that textbooks will soon be available digitally and that publishers will "drive the adoption of e-book readers". Stephen Smith noted that e-Book Readers are the key to the success of electronic text books. Is this textbooks on every student's personal reader (something I've been forecasting for a while)? "We may have to try to influence the tipping point of eBook readers," Smith said. "The ability of government and teachers to keep pace with technology is difficult. Anything that comes along to help learning is critical, and it is important that publishers play a part."Meanwhile TeleRead notes that 44% of 'biz pros' (whatever they are?!) surveyed at Frankfurt identified the use of e-books as a key area of growth for the industry. So that's pretty good news from Frankfurt for

Google Brings Ad-Supported YouTube Videos to AdSense Publishers
Publishers can earn revenue from companion ads, which sit atop the video window like banner ads on a Web page, and text overlay ads, which occupy the bottom 20% of the video frame. Google on Monday said that it has made ad-supported YouTube videos available to publishers in its AdSense network. "Video units enable AdSense publishers to display videos from several YouTube content partners," said Christine Lee, product marketing manager for Google's AdSense, in a blog post. "The video units are ad-supported, and the ads are relevant to both the video and the site content, as well as unobtrusive. AdSense publishers and YouTube content partners will receive a share of the ad revenue, so video units enable both groups to earn incremental revenue." Google has been testing video units for AdSense since last year. It has run pilot programs offering ad-supported content from MTV Networks, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group to a limited group of online publishers. Now any Eng

Things have been pretty quiet in the Megaten world as of late. Even in terms of general related Atlus news there’s not been too much to say. Gamasutra has an interesting article up about Game Developer’s Top 20 Publishers. The list is generally dominated by the top players every one would name, such as EA, Nintendo and Activision. YouTube offers publishers Adsense in videos
Enhance your site with high quality, relevant video content from YouTube partners, and earn extra revenue along the way…. That’s the whole idea of Google. YouTube now offers website publishers to create a custom video player and add their adsense code to deliver targeted ads atop the video being played. Web Publishers can also choose the category of video to be shown, or let Google automatically target ads based on the content. The text-based ads would be shown above the video player, which can also be customized to match the look and feel of the publisher’s website. At the time of writing this post, this feature is available only for a select few registered YouTube users. You’ll need to sign up for an AdSense account to start using Video Units.

Authoritative Content vs. Democratic Content OR How publishers can stop worrying and love Web 2.0
I talk to a lot of traditional book publishers.  It's my job.  The conversation is typically in the context of understanding their company's online content strategy and how they plan to use the participatory web (aka: Web 2.0) to battle shrinking profits and growing competition.   Chief among their concerns is the misconception that using Web 2.0 technologies automatically means they are going to lose control of their content.  This is, of course, a double-edged sword.  Sites like Wikipedia have done a great job raising awareness for wikis in general, but they've scared the begezus out of publishers and content owners in the process.  Publishing your content in a wiki DOES NOT mean that every person who visits your site can change / edit / delete the authoritative content you and your staff have so painstakingly worked to create.  It's all about control.   Authoritative Content comprises the majority of published nonfiction.

Self-Publishing 101: Beware of Wolves Dressed as Publishers
Company teaches authors the true definition of self-publishing."Keep all the rights to your book!" "Set your own prices!" If you are a new author looking to self-publish, you have more than likely come across these phrases from companies claiming to help you self publish your book. These so called companies stand to make a huge profit from your book, whether you make anything or not. What Publishers Need to Know About Google Books
With Google Books pages coming up in the top of Web Search, having listings in Google Books should now be key to publishers’ online marketing campaigns. While there is no doubt of the value of Google Books to those looking to increase book sales online, there is some concern about the lack of order in Google Books search results. The results in Google Books search results come from two sources, the Google Books Partner Program and Google Books Library Project. The Google Books Partner Program allows publishers submit their book lists at no cost. Publishers have a choice of four formats for the submission. Full view where you can view or download the entire book. This would be of no value and actually would devalue the book itself, and I gather this is generally for the Google Books Library Project. Limited preview allows the user to view a limited number of pages of the book. Snippet view allows the user to view a few sentences surrounding the search term. No preview available s

Tin Pan Alley - Home to New York's Music Publishers
By Adam Singleton Tin Pan Alley is a term that is synonymous with the American music publishing industry. But, is there actually a Tin Pan Alley, how did it get its name and why has it become a byword for the music industry? In the late nineteenth century, 25,000 pianos were sold in the United States each year and, with over half a million youngsters learning to play the instrument, there was a huge demand for sheet music. Indeed the clamour was so huge that publishers rushed to enter the lucrative market. Before long, 1885 publishers were scattered throughout the large cities of the continental USA, but during the last 15 years of the century they all began to graduate towards New York as the city’s prominence as the center for the production of the musical arts grew.It was here that publishers adopted new, aggressive business practices and marketing techniques to achieve phenomenal sales. The publishers tied talented and popular composers to exclusive contracts; they also conducted

So, Rupert Murdoch the millionaire media mogul that owns Fox News has just paid John Edwards $900,000.00 for his 2006 book called Home: The Blueprints of Our Lives. This is the same Fox News that John Edwards trashes constantly. And Murdoch has a history of using lucrative book deals to gain favor with politicians. Yet in spite of that not only is there no hesitation on the part of John Edwards to take Murdoch’s money (well John edwards IS a lawyer after all) but not a word from any of the other Democrat candidates about the hypocrisy of it. Charles Dierick from Studio Herge replies: "If you condemn a book on that kind of basis without taking into account the context, the historical context in which it was made, you can throw into the dustbin of history every fictional work that was made before the 1960s," he said. And there are slightly more important things to worry about: The director of the Anti-Racism and Equal Opportunities Centre said he believed there were more pressing issues at hand.
