I was looking through through the news from late yesterday and today trying to see if there was anything worth talking about when lo and behold, Mike Gravel delivers. In a big way. Mike Gravel, in case you don’t know or have forgotten, is the forgotten Democratic nominee to run for president. No one ever listens to him because at all the debates, the moderators rarely ask him a question and when they do, he comes across like a crazy ass grandfather that might be suffering from some form of mental deterioration. Despite this, I like the guy and tend to like what he says at the debates, though I don’t know how much of what he says is actually possible because I’m no expert on that stuff. I just occasionally follow politics for the senselessness of them. I’m easily entertained. Mike Gravel decided to bless me, as well as you, with some entertainment today. But I found a cool article on PubMed and I thought you people might find it interesting. So I've summarized it for y'all. That sort of thing. So when I came across an article on drugs, psychedelic drugs no less, found in plants and fungi that have established themselves in American soil, I was intrigued. I spent most of the 80s on a skateboard plugged into a walkman playing one of several 120 minute Maxell cassette tapes packed with punk bands like 7 Seconds, Minor Threat, Youth Brigade and of course U2’s anthemic Boy. I never owned a Psychedelic Furs album, but I had their “President Gas” song on one of my lighter mix tapes. It’s not that I wasn’t a fan of the Furs, but their music was reaching saturation on the radio and MTV (back when they had two dozen videos that playing continuously) and they didn’t make a good soundtrack for the half pipe. Over the summer we have been invited to so many fabulous parties, we just had to give something back. So we took a trip back to the 60’s and did some adult (chemical process) tie-dye and children friendly (Kool-aid) tie-dye. In no time the tie-dye frenzy was over and cakes, brownies and other culinary delights were being consumed. It was the perfect time for coffee, and before long, my coffee pot was empty.
