      Psalms 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. What Christian does not know or have heard of Psalms 23? The promise in this song is so overwhelming. For it says that if you have the Lord in your heart and soul, what more can you ask for?God is Great!

      Psalms 119 and Scripture Numerics
As I was reading through psalms today, I noticed an interesting pattern. Some of you may have heard of a branch of scriptural study called “scriptural numerics.” Many believe that the numbers and patterns found in the scriptures are ubiquitous and meaningful. I lend some credit to the theory, but not as much as others. For instance, three has to do with perfection, completeness, and God especially. Six is a number dealing with the weaknesses of man, satan, etc….The number that caught my eye today was eight. Previously, I had loved psalms 119 because it dealt with the importance of scriptures and their importance. It took on a whole other dimension today for me when a few things caught my attention.I have been curious in the past about why this chapter (psalms 119) is subdivided into

Praying the Psalms: Praise God, For He is Worthy
I lift you high in praise, my God, O my King! and I’ll bless Your name into eternity. I’ll bless You every day, and keep it up from now to eternity. God is magnificent; He can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to His greatness. Generation after generation stands in awe of Your work; each one tells stories of Your mighty acts. Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking; I compose songs on Your wonders. Your marvelous doings are headline news; I could write a book full of the details of Your greatness. The fame of Your goodness spreads across the country; Your righteousness is on everyone’s lips. God is all mercy and grace— not quick to anger, is rich in love. God is good to one and all; everything He does is suffused with grace. Creation and creatures applaud You, God; Your holy people bless You. They talk about the glories of Your rule, they exclaim over Your splendor, Letting the world know of Your power for good, the lavish splendor of Your kin

      Praying the Psalms: God Knows
God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too— your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful— I can’t take it all in! Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute— you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re a

      Types of Psalms
The Biblical Psalms can be divided into five different categories. The first category is the most frequent type of Psalm and that type is the psalm of lamenting. These are psalms in which the author cries out to God for help or rescue. The second category is the psalm of confession. A wonderful example of this would be Psalm 51 where David confesses his sin with Bathsheba. Two others are the psalms of praise and the psalms of thanksgiving. The last category includes what are called imprecatory psalms. These psalms call for the judgement of God upon His enemies.Often times people tend to focus primarily on the Psalms of praise and thanksgiving, I love these as well. We should also pay close attention to the other types of psalms. Those that give us the example and call of confession and repentance. Those that call for the judgement of God upon His enemies, that God's justice will be evident. The psalms of lamenting are also of great value. We live in a fallen world filled

      Studying the Psalms
Some of the most wonderful acts of worship in all of history are those that are recorded in the Psalms. In fact, when David was writing most of them, they expressed a kind of worship that was quite revolutionary for his time. You have to remember that during his days, getting into heaven was more about following the rules than it was about having a heart for God. I don’t believe that it was intended to be that way, but it was??simply human nature for man to just respond to the rules and offer the sacrifices that were required. But David danced! David was different because of his heart to please God and to be near Him, and the Psalms are the outflow of his his heart expressed with pen to paper. Therefore, when studying the Psalms there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration. Typically with God’s Word, we look at it as His Word to us. We can look at it, and find the principles that we need to center our lives around. We build doctrine, and rules and guideli

      Psalms Sunday
Beginning this Sunday my friend Erica at Butterfuly Kisses will be going through the book of Psalms and she asks us to join with her. She said:Each Sunday I will pick one or two Psalms (depending on length). If you would like to take part, after reading the Psalms, share in a post whatever you would like in regards to what you read. For example, what did you think of it? What does it mean to you? Do you have a story behind it? Can you teach us something about it? Do you relate to a portion of it? What verse from it spoke to you the most?Go over and check it out here.

      Psalms Sunday
Psalm's Chapter 1This is going to be short and sweet. This chapter is a great example of compare and contrast. Vs 1-3 state the characteristics of one who is righteous:1. Yields fruit2. Does not wither (or fade away)3. ProspersNow in Vs 4-6 we see what happens to the ungodly or "wicked" as stated in vs 4.1. They will perish.I know which path I chose. Thank you Jesus for sending your Son so I can chose the right path.Head over to Erica's for more.

      Psalms Sunday
Psalm 2Here in chapter 2 David talks about world rulers and how they rebel against God, who is Supreme King. Also, Paul quotes verse 2 in Acts 4:25, while discussing the sovereign power of God.God also says he will establish his holy kingdom on Mt. Zion. This is referring to where the Messiah will reign during the Millennium. This is also reiterated in Isaiah 2:3, "For the law will go forth from Zion, And the world of the Lord from Jerusalem." And in vs 9, David tells what is going to happen during Christ's second coming, "Thou shalt shatter them like earthenware."The remaining of the chapter David is warning the kings to show some discernment and to worship God, fear God, because he is the ONLY sovereign king.Psalm 110This Psalms goes with Psalm 2 because it explains what will happen to the Kings who did not fear God, who did not show discernment."He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath.....He will shatter the chief men over a broad country." This is talking about during t

      Studying the Psalms
A common goal or resolution for the New Year that I often hear is to establish regular time in God's word, get closer to God, or put Him first. For some people, it's hard to study the Bible without the aid of a devotional or completing a formal Bible study book. Participating in Bible study classes and attending small groups that guide my study have been invaluable as far as increasing my

      Psalms Sunday
Psalms 3In my bible it says "David is encouraged by God's protection." I too value God's protection and rely on it daily. This is something our family prays for all the time, "please keep us safe". I rely on God for my physical protection and my spiritual protection.Sometimes I find myself driving back home from some event and it is dark. I do not like driving in the dark. So I pray my self home; praying for God's physical protection. Or if my kids are gone I pray for their physical protection and safe return. I rely on God for that. I live in Florida, those hurricanes can result in many prayers of physical protection.I also pray for protection of my marriage. I believe Christian marriages is the one institute Satan likes to mess with. I find when I am doing some sort of ministry, or making head way for God it is my marriage where Satan likes to attack. Both manly man and I know that and make a conscious effort to pray for the protection of our marriage.I also pray for m
