I am glad to be sheep. I am glad to put faith in Christ and know that eternity is in His hands and not mine. Christians have a unique blessing in the world. We don't have to become little gods because we have a God. Or rather God has us; and we are free to be creatures. We are sheep with a shepherd and a door, a way to eternity. God's care for the world, revealed in Jesus, opens up eternity

Whats is a psalm? It is a sacred song or hymn. King David was a a writer of psalms of which the most read and famous of them is Psalm 23. Read on and be inspired by the promise of the song. 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord f

1 I give thee thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;before the gods I sing thy praise;2 I bow down toward thy holy templeand give thanks to thy name for thy steadfast loveand thy faithfulness;for thou hast exalted above everything thy name and thy word.3 On the day I called, thou didst answer me,my strength of soul thou didst increase. *4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee,O LORD, for they have heard the words of thy mouth;5 and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD,for great is the glory of the LORD.6 For though the LORD is high,he regards the lowly; but the haughty he knows from afar.7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou dost preserve my life;thou dost stretch out thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand delivers me.8 The LORD will fulfil his purpose for me;thy steadfast love, O LORD, endures for ever.Do not forsake the work of thy hands.
"I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou hast drawn me up, and hast not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to thee for help, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved.' By thy favor, O Lord, thou hadst established me as a strong mountain; thou didst hide thy face, I was dismayed. To thee, O Lord, I cried; and to the Lord I made supplication; "What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise thee? Will it tell of thy faithfulness? Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me! O Lord, be thou my helper!'Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded
Psalm 139 For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. 1O LORD, you have searched meand you know me.2You know when I sit and when I rise;you perceive my thoughts from afar.3You discern my going out and my lying down;you are familiar with all my ways.4Before a word is on my tongueyou know it completely, O LORD. 5You hem me in -- behind and before;you have laid your hand upon me.6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,too lofty for me to attain. 7Where can I go from your Spirit?Where can I flee from your presence?8If I go up to the heavens, you are there;if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.9If I rise on the wings of the dawn,if I settle on the far side of the sea,10even there your hand will guide me,your right hand will hold me fast. 11If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide meand the light become night around me,"12even the darkness will not be dark to you;the night will shine like the day,for darkness is as light to you. 13For you created my inmost being;you knit me to

Psalm 1161 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.2 Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.3 The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.4 Then I called on the name of the LORD : "O LORD, save me!"5 The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.6 The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me.7 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.

This past week my middle children have been studying about the Psalms. Next week we will focus specifically on Psalm 51. This is a Psalm of confession. David confesses here his sin with Bathsheba and asks for forgiveness. This Psalm gives us a great example of confession as well as reminding us of our loving, gracious, and forgiving Lord. Take a moment and read Psalm 51.Psalm 511 Have mercy on me, O God,according to your steadfast love;according to your abundant mercyblot out my transgressions.2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.4 Against you, you only, have I sinnedand done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your wordsand blameless in your judgment.5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.6Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;wash me,

1 I said, “I will be careful what I do and will not let my tongue make me sin; I will not say anything while evil people are near.” 2 I kept quiet, not saying a word, not even about anything good! But my suffering only grew worse, 3 and I was overcome with anxiety. The more I thought, the more troubled I became; I could not keep from asking: 4 “Lord, how long will I live? When will I die? Tell me how soon my life will end.” 5 How short you have made my life! In your sight my lifetime seems nothing. Indeed every living being is no more than a puff of wind, 6 no more than a shadow. All they do is for nothing; they gather wealth, but don't know who will get it. 7 What, then, can I hope for, Lord? I put my hope in you. 8 Save me from all my sins, and don't let fools laugh at me. 9 I wi

A Psalm of Life
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (27 February 1807 - 24 March 1882)
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers, |
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!

John Milton -- A Paraphrase of Psalm 114When the blest seed of Terah's faithfull Son,After long toil their liberty had won,And past from Pharian fields to Canaan Land,Led by the strength of the Almighties hand,Jehovah's wonders were in Israel shown,His praise and glory was in Israel known. That saw the troubl'd Sea, and shivering fled,And sought to hide his froth-becurled headLow in the earth, Jordans clear streams recoil,As a faint host that hath receiv'd the foil. The high, huge-bellied Mountains skip like RamsAmongst their Ews, the little Hills like Lambs. Why fled the Ocean? And why skipt the Mountains? Why turned Jordan toward his Crystall Fountains?Shake earth, and at the presence be agastOf him that ever was, and ay shall last,That glassy flouds from rugged rocks can crush,And make soft rills from fiery flint-stones gush.
Last Sunday, Craig (our pastor) taught on Psalm 23. Today I got this and want to share it with you. Please click the photo to make it bigger, so you can read. Take note of the added italics on the side (a simple explanation of the verse). Happy Sunday!
O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, it is high, I cannot attain unto it.Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there, if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. For thou hast possessed my re
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live* so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.6 The Lord works vindicationand justice for all who are oppressed.7 He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.9 He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger for ever.10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love towards those who fear him;12 as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.13 As a father has compassion for his children, so
"My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me" (Ps. 63:8 NASB). Here are two different parties and two different actions. The soul clings and the right hand upholds. The believer is dependent on the one who alone sustains. This verse is not merely a statement of longing, but rather paints a picture of something, namely, the soul clinging and the right hand upholding. What is this a picture of? What else can it be but an embrace. It is in fact an intense embrace. The little child runs to his father and wraps his arms around his neck; The father's strong hands uphold the child that so desperately clings to Him. Notice the parallelism in this verse: when the soul clings, the right hand upholds. There is no seperation of these two vitally necessary components of this embrace. Both aspects are required.Life is not what you can bring, but where you choose to cling. The Heart is awed by this condescending grace, For no soul deserves the joy of this Divine Embrace...
Psalm 127Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city,in vain does the guard keep watch. It is vain for you to rise early andput off your rest at night,to eat bread earned by hard toil -All this God gives to his beloved in sleep. Children too are a gift from the LORD,the fruit of the womb, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warriorare the children born in one's youth. Blessed are they whose quivers are full. They will never be shamedcontending with foes at the gate.

that all of the peoples would stand up and worship their God
that your church, your bride would stand ready

Praise for the LORD's Goodness A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. 1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High: 2 to show forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, 3 upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. 4 For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands. 5 O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. 6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. 7 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever: 8 but thou, LORD, art most high for evermore. 9 For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall b
