Commenter Wheell helpfully passed along PFP's 2006 projections in the comments of yesterday's post. Apparently, the NFL was easier to predict in 2006, as PFP's average miss was 2.20 wins, and the Vegas lines came in at 2.19, so it was essentially a dead heat. For the last two years, that puts it at PFP 2.28, Vegas 2.38.Here are the top 10 PFP/Vegas discrepancies, as well as how they turned out:S

The three major cable news networks project Hillary Clinton will win the Pennsylvania Primary. Right now, there's about a 20,000 vote gap between the two candidates, so Mrs. Clinton hardly won convincingly. And of course, the biggest winner from tonight's primary: John McCain. As the Dems will continue to have to battle with each other, McCain gets to cruise along, without an opponent, and campaign along until the Republican National Convention.
...Great article from Fox Sports which breaks down 2008 pitching projections. The article has Johan Santana with 21 wins and 251 strikeouts. Not too shabby. Here is a sample of the list:1. Johan Santana, NYM : Santana will pitch in a bigger stadium with more consistent run support. He'll enjoy making the swap to the National League. Billy Wagner will be there to slam the door. Santana has averaged 17.5 wins per year during the past four years. 2007 wins: 15 2008 wins: 21 2. Jake Peavy, SD : Peavy has won at least 11 games in five consecutive years, and his 19 wins in 2007 established a new career high. The Padres possess a strong bullpen, and Peavy's ability to work deep into games cannot be discounted. 2007 wins: 19 2008 wins: 20 3. Carlos Zambrano, CHC : He didn't challenge for the Cy You
“Faking it,” I tell Carlos, “only has to happen once. Then it’s part of the entire texture. The whole thing would be over.” “What are you talking about?” “What scares me. A New York Times article today, entitled “Math Suggests College Frenzy Will Soon Ease”, declares today’s borderline-insane selectivity indices for elite colleges will soon become more reasonable, as the number of high school graduates is expected to peak this year and then steadily decrease until 2015. Essentially, this correlates to fewer college applications and thus increased acceptance rates at [...]
There are some pretty good matchups this week at the running back position. Here are the top 10 sure-thing starters.LaDainian Tomlinson @ NE - LT has bad blood for the Patriots and will run hard.Joseph Addai @ Ten - The Titans have improved, but Addai will get his points.Shaun Alexander @ Ari - Has the Cardinals D really improved that much. We'll find out.Frank Gore @ Stl - Slow start last week....Gore should easily penetrate the Rams D-line.Steven Jackson vs. SF - We'll see how much the loss of Pace hurts this team.Willie Parker vs. Buf - Henry put up 100 in week 1....so will Willie.Travis Henry vs. Oak - These teams still hate each other, but look for Henry to play well.Brian Westbrook vs. Wash - The Eagles offense looked out of sync in week 1.Rudi Johnson @ Clev - Had 145 yards and 2 TDs vs. the Browns in week 2 last year.Adrian Peterson @ Det - Week 1 was no fluke. Peterson has already arrived.
Here are the top fantasy football week 2 starters at quarterback.Peyton Manning @ Tennessee Titans - No reason he shouldn't continue to light it up against this team.Carson Palmer @ Cleveland Browns - Palmer looked pretty good against a tough Ravens defense. He should look great against the Browns.Tom Brady vs. San Diego Chargers - This will be a test, but the Patriots offense looks loaded and should still put up points against a good Chargers defense.Tony Romo @ Miami Dolphins - The Cowboys are now one of the leagues best offenses and will score against Miami.Drew Brees @ Tampa Bay Bucs - Brees will come out more aggressive this week against Tampa Bay.Donovan McNabb vs. Washington Redskins - McNabb had a poor showing at Green Bay. Look for him to light it up at home against a division rival.
Here is my list of the top 5 ff quarterback starters for week 1. These guys should score well this week.Peyton Manning vs. New Orleans Saints - Last time Peyton played NO he put up 6 TDs.Drew Brees @ Indianapolis Colts - This one has the makings of a shootout.Donovan McNabb @ GB Packers - 2 passing TDs and 2 rush TDs against Pack last year.Tony Romo vs. New York Giants - Post-Parcels Cowboys could score more this year.Jon Kitna @ Oakland - Martz will unleash the passing game in week 1 with Kevin Jones out.
Matt Buser at writes a great article on the number of looks and touches each player gets during the regular season. Its a great way to help determine the potential value of a fantasy player. "Looks" refer to the number of times a player was targeted with a pass and "touches" refers to the number of times an RB carried or caught a football.Buser projects the leaders in each fantasy football category for running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. The question always looms whether McNabb can stay healthy all year long. The Eagles will depend on his health since Je
One of the most requested types of information The Industry Measure receives from graphic arts industry vendors and suppliers is: how many digital presses, color scanners, wide-format printers, etc., will be bought by graphic arts professionals in the next 12 months? The housing market takes center stage this week as new and existing home sales results are released for May. It will be interesting to note if sales activity will follow suit with last week’s housing indicators.
Treasuries surged on Friday as fears of another failed hedge fund linked to the subprime sector created a flight-to-quality bid. Also, traders in the bond market were positioning themselves ahead of a lot of market moving data and a FOMC policy meeting slated for next week. The 10-year note was up 13/32 to 95-4/32 to yield 5.13%.
Economists are expecting downturn in the housing sector to get worse before it gets better.

In a previous post I made some predictions regarding the housing bubble and its overall effects on the US economy. This post continues on that theme with some minor adjustments to my prior projections.

GM was hoping that its GMT-900 pickup trucks would boost in sales rapidly in the US, but the numbers haven't met their expectations so far. The trucks are taking longer time to sell than its predecessor, and to make matters even worse, the new trucks are driving off the showrooms with only $420 less incentives than the model it's replacing.GM reported that only 200,505 of the new trucks were sold in the first quarter of 2007, and "well below" their internal projections have forecasted. Discounts on the new trucks averaged $2453, and sat an average of 81 days on the lot. That's contrary to 55 days for the GMT-800 trucks for the first quarter of 2006.[Source: LLN]
CQ.com: Latest Projections Show a Bit Brighter Outlook for Social Security, MedicareExcerpt:"The trustees for Social Security and Medicare issued their annual report this afternoon, providing the latest assessment of the looming financial crunch for the two giant entitlement programs. The new report shows both trust funds in slightly better shape than last year’s report, with Medicare’s trust fund for hospital coverage now likely to be exhausted by 2019, one year later than last year’s estimate. The trustees projected that Social Security’s trust funds — from which retirement and disability benefits are distributed — would be exhausted in 2041, also a year later than projected in 2006."http://public.cq.com/docs/cqm/cqmidday110-000002495594.htmlAlex

We had a comment from someone who stated he liked the balance of this site as I 'lean' to the right while Indy 'leans' to the left. Our projections really went in a similar direction with my projections showing the Democrats picking up 12 less seats than Indy did.
Now when I buzz through what appears to be the final numbers I see that I appear to have missed ten seats (If PA-08 holds on for the challenger) that I called Republican that went Democrat, including an embarrassing four seats that I wasn't even bothering to track. There are few more that are not called and possibly could get wrong, but lean the way I picked. Of those same ten races Indy happened to also miss the four that I was not tracking. He correctly projected the Democrat to win in the other six races.
On the flip side, Indy incorrectly projected the Democats would win seven races where the Republicans ended up winning. I correctly projected the winner to the GOP in four while I also missed the other three. If ot
